1 Introduction
T ank you for purc asing a Tobii Dynavox I-Series device from Tobii Dynavox!
To ensure t e optimal performance of t is product, please take t e time to read t is manual carefully.
T e Tobii Dynavox I-Series is a Tobii Dynavox Speec Generating Device intended for use as an augmentative communication
aid, for computer access, and as an environmental control unit for t ose wit speec , language, p ysical, and cognitive
disabilities.
1.1 Explanation of Admonitions
In t is manual we use four (4) levels of admonitions as follows:

1.2 Symbols and Markings

1.3 Intended Use
Tobii Dynavox I-Series is a dedicated Speec Generating Device (SGD), primarily designed to serve as an augmentative and al-
ternative communication (AAC) aid. Secondarily, Tobii Dynavox I-Series will also provide its users wit alternative computer ac-
cess, long distance communication and environmental control.
T e target users for Tobii Dynavox I-Series are individuals wit p ysical and/or cognitive conditions affecting t eir ability to
speak, communicate and participate in everyday activities. Tobii Dynavox I-Series provides t ese users wit a way to communi-
cate t at is appropriate for t eir age, cognitive level, language skills, and p ysical abilities. T is mig t be t roug Visual Scene
Displays (VSDs), grid-based symbol pages, keyboards, or a combination of t e above. Composed messages are communicated
t roug recorded voice or synt esized speec .

Tobii Dynavox I-Series is built to serve a wide range of input met od needs and use cases. T e typical user will be ambulatory
and interact wit t e device t roug touc . T e device is also appropriate for p ysically disabled users t at require alternative
access met ods, suc as switc scanning, or w eelc air mounting. Tobii Dynavox I-Series is based on Windows 10 and is
available bot in dedicated and open configurations. In t e dedicated configuration, Tobii Dynavox I-Series will restrict t e users
from access to features t at are not seen as communication functionality.
In addition to providing users wit face-to-face communication possibilities, Tobii Dynavox I-Series also facilitates alternative ac-
cess to a number of computer access and long distance communication features. T e device as built-in WLAN and cellp one
connectivity t roug Bluetoot . Tobii Dynavox I-Series also as built-in infrared transmitters enabling t e user to control TV,
lig ts, blinds and ot er IR-compatible devices in t eir environment.
Tobii Dynavox I-Series is a medical device designed to meet t e requirements of EN-60601 and all ot er regulatory require-
ments in t e markets w ere it is sold. T e Tobii Dynavox I-Series is significantly more rugged t an typical consumer tablets, and
comes wit an IP54 ingress protection, enabling use in most conditions. Tobii Dynavox I-Series is not intended to be t e user’s
sole means of communication. Users s ould ave an alternative, low-tec communication met od in t e event t at t e device is
malfunctioning or ot erwise inaccessible.
T e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device does not sustain or support life.
In case of failure of t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device, t e user cannot communicate using it.
Intended use is bot indoor and outdoor conditions.
1.3.1 Portable Use
A portable Tobii Dynavox I-Series can be and- eld used, and in two (2) different positions:

Standing Resting
T roug t e built-in stand, t e I-110 can be used standing on a flat surface. By collapsing t e stand, t e device can also be
used in a resting position, eit er resting on a surface or and eld. By utilizing t e included carry strap, t e device can also be
carried around t e user’s neck. Bot positions allow for touc input, scanning or ot er alternative input met ods.
1.3.2 Mounted Use
T e Tobii Dynavox I-Series can be mounted on to several mounting systems.

1.4 ackage Contents
It is recommended to keep t e original packaging materials for t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series.
If device needs to be returned to Tobii Dynavox for Warranty related issues or repair, it is beneficial t at t e original
packaging or equal equivalent is used for s ipping. Most s ipping carriers require at least 2 inc es of packing materi-
al around t e device.
Please note: Due to Joint Commission regulations, any s ipping materials including boxes sent to Tobii Dynavox
must be discarded.

2 Safety
T e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device as been tested and approved as compliant to all t e Specifications and Standards listed in
Appendix B Compliance Information, page 21 of t is manual and in t e Appendix D Technical Specifications, page 25 . Never-
t eless, in order to ensure safe operation of your Tobii Dynavox I-Series device, t ere are a few safety warnings to bear in mind:
No modification of this e uipment is allowed
T e Tobii Dynavox I-Series is not to be used as a life supporting Device, and it s all not be relied on in case of loss of
function due to power loss or ot er causes.
T e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device is designed to meet a ig ingress protection rating, meaning it will wit stand lig t
rain or snow. However, it s all not be exposed to or used in eavy rain or weat er conditions outside t e Tec nical
Specification of t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device.
T e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device is designed to be rugged and durable. It s all still be andled and used wit care
w en moving around.
T ere could be a c oking azard risk if small parts detac from t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device.
T e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device s all only be used wit Tobii Dynavox I-Series specific Accessories t at ave a
mounting instruction included wit t e accessory.
Young c ildren or people wit cognitive disabilities s ould not ave access to, or t e use of, t e
Tobii Dynavox I-Series device, wit or wit out carry strap or ot er accessories, wit out parental or guardian
supervision.
2.1 Avoiding Hearing Damage
Permanent earing loss may occur if earp ones, eadp ones or speakers are used at ig volume. To prevent t is,
t e volume s ould be set to a safe level. You can become desensitized over time to ig sound levels w ic may t en
sound acceptable, yet still could be damaging your earing. If you experience symptoms suc as ringing in your ears,
please lower t e volume or stop using t e earp ones/ eadp ones. T e louder t e volume, t e less time is required
before your earing could be affected.
Hearing experts suggest t e following measures to protect your earing:
●Limit t e amount of time you use earp ones or eadp ones at ig volume.
●Avoid turning up t e volume to block out noisy surroundings.
●Turn t e volume down if you cannot ear people speaking near you.
To establis a safe volume level:
●Set your volume control at a low setting.
●Slowly increase t e sound until you can ear it comfortably and clearly, wit out distortion.
2.2 Temperature
Due to use in direct suns ine or in any ot er ot environment t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device may ave ot surfaces.
T ere is a built in temperature sensor t at monitors t e temperature. If t e sensor detects temperatures above t e
temperature specified in Table C.1 Maxim m Allowed Hotspot Temperat re, page 24 t e device will automatically
trigger a Windows S ut Down to not cause t e User any risk of arm. It may take a w ile before
Tobii Dynavox I-Series device can be restarted as t e unit may first need time to cool down.

2.3 ower Supply and Batteries
T e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device contains a rec argeable battery. All rec argeable batteries degrade over time. T us
t e possible usage times for t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series after a full c arge can become s orter over time t an w en
t e device was new.
T e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device uses a Li-ion battery.
If you are in a ot environment, be aware t at it can affect t e ability to c arge t e battery. T e internal temperature
as to be between 0 ℃/32 ℉and 45 ℃/113 ℉for t e battery to c arge. If t e internal battery temperature raises
above 45 ℃/113 ℉t e battery will not c arge at all.
Move t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device to a cooler environment to let t e battery c arge properly.
Avoid exposing t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device to fire or to temperatures above 60 ℃/140 ℉. T ese conditions
may cause t e battery to malfunction, generate eat, ignite or explode. Be aware t at it is possible, in a worst case
scenario, for temperatures to reac greater t an t ose stated above in, for example, t e trunk of a car on a ot day.
So, storing t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device, in a ot car trunk could conceivably lead to a malfunction.
Only c arge t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series battery in an ambient temperature of 0 ℃/32 ℉to 45 ℃/113 ℉.
Use only t e supplied power adapter to c arge t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device. Using unaut orized power adapters
may severely damage t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device.
Do not open, or modify, t e casing of t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device or of t e power supply, since you may be ex-
posed to potentially azardous electrical voltage. T e device contains no serviceable parts. If t e
Tobii Dynavox I-Series device or it’s accessories are mec anically damaged, do not to use them.
If t e battery are not c arged or t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series is not connected to t e power supply, t e
Tobii Dynavox I-Series device will s ut down.
If t e Power Supply Cord is damaged it needs to be replaced by Service Personnel only. Do not use t e Power Sup-
ply Cord until replaced.
Only connect t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series to t e Power adapters s ipped wit t is device.
T e appliance coupler of t e power supply is used as t e Mains Disconnection Device, please do not position t e
Tobii Dynavox I-Series device so t at it is difficult to operate t e disconnection device.
Special regulations apply to s ipping devices containing Li-ion batteries. If dropped, crus ed, or s ort-circuited,
t ese batteries can release dangerous amounts of eat and may ignite, and are dangerous in fires.

T e Power adapters s all not be used wit out an adult or Caregiver supervision.
2.4 Mounting
T e Tobii Dynavox I-Series s ould be mounted according to MANUFACTURER instructions of approved mounts.
Tobii Dynavox or its agents are not liable for damage or injuries to a person or its property due to a
Tobii Dynavox I-Series falling from a mounted configuration. T e mounting of a Tobii Dynavox I-Series is done entirely
at t e user’s own risk.

2.5 Emergency
Do not rely on t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device for emergency calls or banking transactions. We recommend aving
multiple ways to communicate in emergency situations. Banking transactions s ould only be carried out wit a system
recommended by, and approved according to t e standards of your bank.
2.6 Electricity
Do not open t e casing of t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device, since you may be exposed to potentially azardous elec-
trical voltage. T e device contains no user serviceable parts.
2.7 Child Safety
T e Tobii Dynavox I-Series are advanced computer systems and electronic devices. As suc t ey are composed of
numerous separate, assembled parts. In t e ands of a c ild certain of t ese parts, including accessories, ave t e
possibility of being separated from t e device, possibly constituting a c oking azard or anot er danger to t e c ild.
Young c ildren s ould not ave access to, or t e use of, t e device wit out parental or guardian supervision.
2.8 Software
Windows 10 comes wit Windows Defender included, providing protection from viruses, malware, and ot er poten-
tial t reats. Regardless of w et er you use Windows Defender or a t ird party anti-virus software, we recommend
t at you always keep your antivirus software up-to-date.
Software ot er t an t at w ic is pre-installed on t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series is installed at t e user's own risk. External
software could cause t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series to malfunction and mig t not be covered by t e warranty.
2.9 Magnetic Field
T e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device contains magnets. Magnetic fields may interfere wit pacemakers, defibrillators, or
ot er medical devices. As a general rule, maintain a minimum distance of 6 inc es (15 centimeters) between any item
wit magnets and your eart device.
If you suspect t at t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device is interfering wit your pacemaker or any ot er medical device,
stop using t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device and consult your p ysician for specific information about t at affected
medical device.
2.10 Third arty
Any use of t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series outside t e intended use and toget er wit any t ird party software or ardware
t at c anges t e intended use is a risk and not ing t at Tobii Dynavox can take any responsibility for.
Being a medical device, parts connected for a SIGNAL INPUT/OUTPUT must be compliant to t e Medical IEC stand-
ard 60601-1
2.11 Environmental Control
T e Programmable IR Remote Control — Environmental Control Unit (ECU) is not to be relied on as t e only met od
of interaction wit IR controlled devices.

Never force a connector into a port. If t e connector and port do not join wit reasonable ease, t ey probably do not
matc . Make sure t at t e connector matc es t e port and t at you ave positioned t e connector correctly in relation
to t e port.
Be extra careful wit t e USB connectors.
3.3 reinstalled Software
T e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device is delivered wit all pre-ordered and required software installed and ready to use. S ould a
reinstallation become necessary at any stage, perform a factory reset using Windows 10 built in factory restore options.

4 Batteries in the Tobii Dynavox I-Series
4.1 Batteries
T e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device as one built-in battery and a battery indicator. T e battery indicator will send out a warning
of Low battery w en t e battery drops below 10% of its capacity. If t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device is not powered up by t e
power supply for c arging, t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device will s ut down automatically. For more information, see Appendix
D Technical Specifications, page 25.
4.2 Charging the Tablet
1. Connect t e Power cable to t e Power Connector on t e device.
2. Connect t e Power adapter to an electrical outlet and c arge t e tablet until t e battery is fully c arged.
For device storage and battery c arging temperatures, see 2 Safety, page 9 .
4.2.1 LED Be avior
T e LED will s ine or blink wit four (4) different states:
●Green
– Solid — Fully c arged
– Flickering — Device C assis over eated
Attempting to start a device in an over eated condition by pressing t e power button, will result in t e
flickering green lig t, and t e device WILL NOT start up until cooled down. For temperature states, see
Table C.1 Maxim m Allowed Hotspot Temperat re, page 24.

5 Using the Tobii Dynavox I-Series
No skill ot er t en reading is necessary for setting up t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device. Follow t is User´s Manual and t e
Quick Start Manual.
5.1 Starting the Device
Press t e power button on t e top of t e device. (Position 1 in Fig re 3.1 Tobii Dynavox I-Series Tablet, page 13) to start t e
Tobii Dynavox I-Series.
5.1.1 First Start Up
W en you start your Tobii Dynavox I-Series for t e first time, you are required to go t roug a couple steps to set your I-Series
up wit t e correct software and language installation. T e w ole process usually takes between 10-15 minutes.
Immediately after booting up t e I-Series, you will be taken t roug t e Windows Out-of-box experience (OOBE). It will require
you to acknowledge bot Microsoft and Tobii Dynavox End User License Agreement. T is is also w ere you set up language
and time-zone preferences. You will also be able to connect to a WIFI-network. Simply follow t e instructions on screen to
progress to t e next step.
Internet-connectivity is not a requirement.
Once completing t e above steps, a Tobii Dynavox setup guide will launc . T e setup guide will ask you for a QR-code t at de-
fines w at Tobii Dynavox software is to be installed. T e QR-code is supplied on paper wit your device, and t e setup guide
will let you use t e built-in rear camera to scan it. Alternatively, you can also manually enter t e license code, found on t e same
paper as t e QR-code. Once t e QR-code/license number is successfully read, t e system will spend approximately 5-10 mi-
nutes configuring your Tobii Dynavox Communication software. In t e meantime, you will be asked to acknowledge safety infor-
mation and manage device settings. Once your software is configured and ready to go, you will be automatically notified.
5.1.2 Password Information
T e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device is configured to start up wit out a password. T oug unusual, t ere are situations in w ic
t e password window could pop up; for example, w en creating a new user in t e operating system, w en returning from t e
operating system’s sleep mode or w en downloading software updates from t e internet.
If you decide to use a password for your user account on your Tobii Dynavox I-Series device, be sure to write it down
in a safe place for later use. Wit out t e operating system’s access password, Tobii Dynavox Support may be unable
to assist you until you ave recovered it t roug Microsoft.
T e password is case sensitive.
S ould t e password window pop up, requiring a password, you need to know t e password or w ere to find it. In order to type
in t e password use t e Windows On-Screen Keyboard or an external USB keyboard (not included).
5.1.3 T e Discover Tobii Dynavox app
Every Tobii Dynavox I-Series comes wit t e Discover Tobii Dynavox app pre-installed. Discover Tobii Dynavox is a resource for
users and caregivers providing useful information and tips about your device and installed software, suc as implementation
guides, support information and instructional videos. T e Discover Tobii Dynavox app is continuously maintained wit up to date
information and links.
T e Discover Tobii Dynavox will open some content in a new web browser window.
5.2 Shutting Down the Tobii Dynavox I-Series
T e device s ould be s ut down using t e following:

●Use t e start menu in Windows (recommended w en possible).
S ould you be unable to s ut t e device down using t e above, you can old t e power button on t e top side of t e device
down for more t an ten (10) seconds. T e device will consequently s ut down immediately, wit out waiting for open applica-
tions to close.
T is is not considered a "clean" Windows s ut down and is t us not recommended unless completely necessary be-
cause it can arm you device.
5.3 ower Saving
T e Power saving settings in t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device are preset to optimize t e battery run-time. If needed, t e time
setting for sleep mode can be adjusted in Windows Power Options.
5.3.1 Turn Off/On t e Screen
Turn Off Screen
●A single press of t e power button will turn off t e screen and t e device will be idle.
Turn On Screen
●A single press of t e power button and you s ould be back w ere you left off.
●Alternatively you can long old t e ome button to wake up t e device.
5.4 Using the Cameras
T e two built-in cameras allows you to take snaps ots of items facing t e backside of t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device and al-
so from t e display side.
Use Tobii Dynavox Communication Software or ot er relevant software to operate t e cameras.
5.5 Adjusting the Volume
To adjust t e volume use t e Volume Up and Down buttons (Position 2) on top side of t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device. For
position references, see Fig re 3.1 Tobii Dynavox I-Series Tablet, page 13
Volume adjustments can also be done in Tobii Dynavox Communication Software and in Windows.
5.6 Adjusting the Sound
You can configure t e speakers using t e Windows 10 Control Panel > Sound.
We refer to Microsoft’s information on ow to configure t e sound in t e Windows 10 Control Panel.

6.1 Temperature & Humidity
6.1.1 General Use - Operating Temperature
T e Tobii Dynavox I-Series is best kept in dry conditions at room temperature. T e recommended range for temperature and t e
umidity value for t e device is as follows:
●Ambient temperature: 0℃to 35℃(32℉to 95℉)
●Humidity: 20% to 80% (no condensation on t e device)
●Atmosp eric Pressure: 70 kPa to 106 kPa (525 mmHg to 795 mmHg)
6.1.2 Transportation and Storage
For transportation and storage t e recommended range for temperature and t e umidity value for t e device is as follows:
●Temperature: -25℃to 70℃(-13℉to 158℉)
●Humidity: 20% to 80% (no condensation on t e device)
●Atmosp eric Pressure: 50 kPa to 106 kPa (375 mmHg to 795 mmHg)
T e Tobii Dynavox I-Series as a water-resistancy rating of IP54, but still isn’t waterproof. T e device s ould not be kept in ex-
cessively umid, damp, or ot erwise wet conditions. Do not submerge t e device in water or in any ot er liquid. Be careful not
to allow liquids to be spilled upon t e device, especially in t e connector areas.
6.2 Cleaning
Before cleaning t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series device, s ut it down and unplug all cables. Use a soft, slig tly damp lint-free clot .
Avoid getting moisture in openings on t e device. Don’t use window cleaners, ouse old cleaners, aerosol sprays, solvents, al-
co ol, ammonia, or abrasives to clean t e device.
6.2.1 Cleaning of t e Speakers
If t e openings for t e speakers are clogged, carefully use cotton sticks and/or a toot brus to avoid damaging t e
Tobii Dynavox I-Series speakers.
6.3 lacement
Only use t e recommended mounts specified by your local reseller or sales representative and make sure t at t ey are mounted
and fastened correctly according to t e instructions. Do not place t e device on unstable and uneven surfaces.
6.4 Transporting the Tobii Dynavox I-Series Device
Disconnect all t e cables from t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series w ile carrying t e device.
W en you transport t e device for repair, s ipment, or traveling, use t e original casing and packaging materials.
It is recommended to keep t e original packaging materials for t e Tobii Dynavox I-Series.
If device needs to be returned to Tobii Dynavox for Warranty related issues or repair, it is beneficial t at t e original
packaging or equal equivalent is used for s ipping. Most s ipping carriers require at least 2 inc es of packing materi-
al around t e device.
Please note: Due to Joint Commission regulations, any s ipping materials including boxes sent to Tobii Dynavox
must be discarded.
