1 Introduction
Pregnancy can be one of the most exciting times in your life, filled with fun, hope, and
enjoyment. There is nothing more exciting than hearing your baby’s heart beat
The Topcom Sweetheart is a fetal doppler monitor.
It is a hand-held ultrasound transducer that uses the Doppler effect to detect the heart
beat of a fetus and provides an audible simulation of the heart beat.
It works by bouncing sound waves off of your baby’s heart. The motion that your baby’s
heart makes when it is beating changes the shape of these sound waves. The baby
doppler then picks up these changed sound waves and amplifies it, in the form of your
baby’s heartbeat.
Fetal dopplers are safe to use at home, without the help of a physician.
• Occasionally, the fetal heart can be heart after 10 to 12 weeks pregnancy.
• After 14 weeks, it should be audible 95% of the time.
• After 16 weeks, the fetal heart should be nearly always audible.
2 Safety instructions
1. This product is for household use only. It is not intended as a substitute for
consultation with your doctor.
2. Though ultrasound is safe for baby, you don’t want to take any chances. Try to stick
to no more than two or three times ten minute exams each week.
3. Leaking batteries can damage the unit. Remove the batteries when the unit is not
used for a long time.
4. Do not throw batteries into fire as they may explode!
5. To prevent injury, do not disassemble or allow metal to touch the battery terminals.
6. Do not moisten the apparatus into water.
7. Try to prevent violent breaking, shaking and exposure to moisture.
8. The unit should not be operated by children to avoid hazardous situations.
9. The unit contains high-precision assemblies. Therefore, avoid extreme
temperatures, humidity and direct sunlight. Avoid dropping or strongly shocking the
main unit, and protect it from dust.
10. Do not disassemble the main unit.
11. If the unit is stored in a cold place, allow it to acclimatize at room temperature
before use.
Please read this manual carefully before use. For specific
information on your pregnancy, contact your physician.
Put the user guide away in a safe place for future reference.
To avoid inaccurate results caused by electromagnetic
interference between electrical and electronic equipments,
do not use the device near a cell phone or microwave oven.

3 Battery installation
• Open the battery compartment by pulling the cover away.
• Insert 1 x 9V (6LR61) non-rechargeable battery following the polarity as indicated
in the battery compartment.
• Re-install the battery cover.
4 Headset connection
Connect the earphone to the earphone jack of the probe as indicated.
For your safety, only use the supplied earphone.
5 Connection to an audio amplifier or recorder
Connect one end of the supplied audio cable to the earphone jack of probe and the other
end to the line-in off your amplifier or recording device.
Change the audio level of your doppler to avoid distortion.
All audio will be transferred to your audio system.

When the LED is red, the batteries needs to be replaced.
Do not short-circuit & dispose of batteries in fire.
Remove the battery if this device is not going to be used for a long
period.

6 Obstetrical exams
Lie down or sit in a comfortable chair.
• Turn on the volume control (1) on the probe. The
LED will turn green.
If the battery is too low, the LED (2) will turn
red.
• Plaster coupling gel (3) onto the surface of the
probe. (Coupling gel can be bought at the local
pharmacy).
• Place the doppler probe on your belly, just below
your navel, but above your pubic bone.
• Begin to move the probe slowly, starting at the
middle of your stomach. Slide the probe gently,
back and forth, making sure not to miss any part
of your belly. The key to the examination is to
intercept the fetal heart with the beam from the
probe. The beam travels in a relatively straight
direction much like a flashlight beam.
The illustration indicates the position were to find the babies heartbeat.

Avoid air bubble or air gap between the skin and probe.
To reduce the static on the machine, apply more or less
ultrasound gel. Too much gel can increase the noise level.

Your baby’s heartbeat may sound much faster than you at first
expected. The fetal heartbeat can be anywhere between 120 and
180 beats per minute (bpm). This is much faster than our own
heartbeats. Many women describe their babies heartbeats like the
sound of a galloping horse.

• You will hear the baby's sound very clearly when the probe is correctly positioned.
• Turn the volume control (1) on the probe to increase or decrease the audio volume.
• If the sound is not very clear or too still, you can move the probe slowly until it is
clear enough.
• After checking, turn off the power. The LED (2) on the probe will turn off.

DON’T PANIC
Double heart beat
Sometimes the fetal doppler appears to pick up two separate
heartbeats. Don’t panic – this does not necessarily mean you are
having twins! The way the sound waves reflect off baby’s heart
sometimes causes this to occur. Be sure to count the beats of each
separate heartbeat; twins will have two different heart rates.
If You Can’t Hear the Heartbeat
It is often very difficult to hear your baby’s heart beat using a fetal
doppler. If you are early in your pregnancy, the heartbeat may not be
strong enough to hear with this machine. Or your baby may simply
be in a position that doesn’t allow the doppler to pick up the heart
rate.
Whatever you do, try not to panic!
Perform each test when your bladder is full, so that your uterus is
pushed up closer to the face of the doppler. If you still can’t hear the
heartbeat, test again later or visit with your health care provider – she
can advise you on how to use your doppler.

8 Troubleshooter
Because of incorrect operation or other problems, you may not get the estimated hearing
result. If problems occur, please refer to the following solutions.
9 Cleaning
• Use a soft wet cloth to clean the apparatus.
• Remove the gel after each use.
• DO NOT use a brush, fingernail or anything that might scratch the apparatus.
10 Disposal of the device
At the end of the product lifecycle, you should not throw this product into the
normal household garbage but bring the product to a collection point for the
recycling of electrical and electronic equipments. The symbol on the product,
user guide and/or box indicate this.
Some of the product materials can be re-used if you bring them to a recycling
point. By re-using some parts or raw materials from used products you make an
important contribution to the protection of the environment. Please contact your local
authorities in case you need more information on the collection points in your area.

11 Topcom warranty
11.1 Warranty period
The Topcom units have a 24-month warranty period. The warranty period starts on the
day the new unit is purchased. Topcom does not give any warranty on standard or
rechargeable batteries (AA/AAA type). Consumables or defects causing a negligible
effect on operation or value of the equipment are not covered.
The warranty has to be proven by presentation of the original or copy of the purchase
receipt, on which the date of purchase and the unit-model are indicated.
11.2 Warranty handling
A faulty unit needs to be returned to a Topcom service centre including a valid purchase
note. If the unit develops a fault during the warranty period, Topcom or its officially
appointed service centre will repair any defects caused by material or manufacturing
faults free of charge.
Topcom will at its discretion fulfill its warranty obligations by either repairing or
exchanging the faulty units or parts of the faulty units. In case of replacement, color and
model can be different from the original purchased unit.
The initial purchase date shall determine the start of the warranty period. The warranty
period is not extended if the unit is exchanged or repaired by Topcom or its appointed
service centers.
11.3 Warranty exclusions
Damage or defects caused by incorrect treatment or operation and damage resulting
from use of non-original parts or accessories not recommended by Topcom are not
covered by the warranty.
Topcom cordless phones are designed to work with rechargeable batteries only. The
damage caused by the use of non-rechargeable batteries is not covered under warranty.
The warranty does not cover damage caused by outside factors, such as lightning, water
and fire, nor any damage caused during transportation. No warranty can be claimed if
the serial number on the units has been changed, removed or rendered illegible.
Any warranty claims will be invalid if the unit has been repaired, altered or modified by the
buyer or by unqualified, non-officially appointed Topcom service centers.

1 Inleiding
Zwangerschap kan een van de spannendste tijden in uw leven zijn, vol plezier en blijde
verwachting. Niets is spannender dan het hartje van uw baby te horen slaan.
De Topcom Sweetheart is een foetale doppler-monitor.
Het is een kleine, ultrasone transducer die het Doppler-effect gebruikt om de hartslag
van een foetus te vinden en die het geluid van de hartslag nabootst.
Dit toestel kaatst geluidsgolven tegen het hart van uw baby. De beweging die het hart
van uw baby maakt als het slaat, verandert de vorm van deze geluidsgolven. De baby-
doppler vangt de veranderde geluidsgolven weer op en versterkt ze in de vorm van uw
baby's hartslag.
Foetale dopplers kunnen thuis veilig gebruikt worden zonder hulp van een arts.
• Soms kan het hart van de foetus al gehoord worden na 10 tot 12 weken
zwangerschap.
• Na 14 weken is het hart 95% van de tijd hoorbaar.
• Na 16 weken zou het hart van de foetus haast altijd hoorbaar moeten zijn.
2 Veiligheidsinstructies
1. Dit product is enkel geschikt voor huishoudelijk gebruik. Dit toestel is niet bedoeld
om raadpleging van uw huisarts te vervangen.
2. Alhoewel ultrageluid veilig is voor uw baby is het beter om geen risico's nemen.
Probeer de onderzoeken te beperken tot twee of drie keer tien minuten per week.
3. Lekkende batterijen kunnen schade aan het toestel veroorzaken. Verwijder de
batterijen wanneer u het toestel langere tijd niet gebruikt.
4. Gooi de batterijen niet in het vuur, aangezien ze dan kunnen ontploffen!
5. Haal het toestel niet uit elkaar en raak de klemmen van de batterij niet aan met
metaal om letsel te voorkomen.
6. Dompel het toestel niet onder in water.
7. Vermijd harde schokken of hevig schudden en stel het toestel niet bloot aan vocht.
8. Dit toestel mag niet worden gebruikt door kinderen, dit zou tot gevaarlijke situaties
kunnen leiden.
9. Het toestel omvat precisiecomponenten. Daarom moet het worden beschermd
tegen extreme temperaturen, vochtigheid en direct zonlicht. Laat het toestel niet
vallen en vermijd sterke schokken. Bescherm het tegen stof.
10. Demonteer het toestel niet.
11. Als het toestel op een koude plaats wordt bewaard, laat het dan eerst op
kamertemperatuur komen, alvorens het te gebruiken.
Lees deze handleiding aandachtig alvorens het toestel te
gebruiken. Voor specifieke informatie over uw
zwangerschap, raden we u aan uw arts te raadplegen.
Bewaar de gebruikershandleiding op een veilige plaats
voor later gebruik.

3 Batterij plaatsen
• Open het batterijvak door het afdekplaatje weg te schuiven.
• Plaats 1 x 9 V (6LR61) niet-oplaadbare batterij met de polariteit zoals aangegeven
in het batterijvak.
• Plaats het deksel weer op het batterijvak.
4 Aansluiting koptelefoon
Sluit de koptelefoon aan op de daarvoor bestemde aansluiting van de sonde zoals
weergegeven.
Gebruik voor uw veiligheid alleen de meegeleverde koptelefoon.
5 Aansluiten op een audioversterker of recorder
Sluit een uiteinde van de meegeleverde audiokabel aan op de aansluiting voor de
koptelefoon op de sonde en het andere uiteinde op de lijningang van de versterker of van
de recorder.
Pas het volume van uw doppler aan om vervorming te voorkomen.
Al het ontvangen geluid wordt overgedragen naar uw audiosysteem.
Gebruik het toestel niet in de buurt van een mobiele
telefoon of magnetron om onnauwkeurige resultaten door
elektromagnetische interferentie tussen elektrische en
elektronische apparaten te voorkomen.

Als de LED rood is, moet de batterij vervangen worden.
Sluit de batterij niet kort en gooi hem nooit in het vuur.
Verwijder de batterij als u het toestel langere tijd niet gebruikt.

6 Verloskundige onderzoeken
Ga liggen of zitten in een gemakkelijke stoel.
• Zet de volumeknop (1) op de sonde aan. De LED
wordt groen.
Als de batterij bijna leeg is, wordt de LED (2)
rood.
• Smeer contactgel (3) op de onderkant van de
sonde. (Contactgel is te verkrijgen bij uw
apotheker).
• Plaats de dopplersonde op uw buik, juist onder
uw navel maar boven uw schaambeen.
• Beweeg de sonde langzaam, begin in het midden
van uw buik. Beweeg de sonde voorzichtig heen
en weer. Zorg ervoor dat u geen enkel deel van
uw buik mist. De opzet van het onderzoek is om
het hart van de foetus te onderscheppen met de
stralen van de sonde. De stralenbundel reist in
een relatief rechte lijn, ongeveer zoals de
stralenbundel van een zaklantaarn.
De afbeelding geeft weer waar de hartslag van de baby gevonden kan worden.

Zorg dat er geen luchtbellen of luchtspleet tussen de huid en de
sonde zitten.
Breng meer of minder ultrageluidgel aan om de atmosferische
storing op de machine te verminderen. Te veel gel kan het
ruisniveau verhogen.

De hartslag van uw baby kan sneller klinken dan u in eerste
instantie had verwacht. De foetale hartslag ligt tussen de 120 en
180 slagen per minuut (bpm). Dit is veel sneller dan onze eigen
hartslag. Veel vrouwen zeggen dat de hartslag van hun baby lijkt
op het geluid van een paard in galop.

• U zult de hartslag van uw baby heel duidelijk horen als de sonde op de juiste plaats
gelegd wordt.
• Draai aan de volumeknop (1) op de sonde om het geluidsvolume te verhogen of te
verlagen.
• Als het geluid niet duidelijk is of te zacht, kunt u de sonde langzaam bewegen tot
het geluid duidelijk genoeg is.
• Zet het toestel uit na het onderzoek. De LED (2) op de sonde gaat uit.

GEEN PANIEK
Dubbele hartslag
Soms lijkt het of de foetale doppler twee verschillende hartslagen
weergeeft. Geen paniek – dit hoeft niet te betekenen dat u een tweeling
verwacht! Dit kan een gevolg zijn van de manier waarop de
geluidsgolven weerkaatst worden door het hart van de baby. Zorg
ervoor dat u de slagen van elke hartslag apart telt; een tweeling heeft
twee verschillende hartslagen.
Als u geen hartslag kunt horen
Het is vaak heel moeilijk om de hartslag van het hart van uw baby te
horen met een foetale doppler. In het beginstadium van uw
zwangerschap is de hartslag misschien niet sterk genoeg om gehoord
te worden met dit toestel. Of uw baby ligt misschien in een houding
waardoor het voor de doppler moeilijk is om de hartslag te ontvangen.
Wat u ook doet, blijf rustig, en vermijd paniek.
Voer het onderzoek telkens uit als uw blaas vol is, zodat uw baarmoeder
omhoog geduwd wordt, dichter naar de doppler toe. Als u de hartslag
dan nog niet kunt horen, probeer het dan later nog eens of maak een
afspraak met de zorgverlener die uw zwangerschap controleert – hij of
zij kan u adviseren over hoe u de doppler moet gebruiken.

8 Problemen oplossen
Door een onjuiste werking of andere problemen hoort u misschien niet het best mogelijke
resultaat. Hieronder vindt u oplossingen voor veel voorkomende problemen.
9 Reinigen
• Gebruik een zachte, vochtige doek om het apparaat te reinigen.
• Verwijder de gel telkens na gebruik.
• Gebruik GEEN borstel, vingernagel of een ander voorwerp dat krassen kan maken
op het apparaat.
10 Het toestel verwijderen
Na afloop van de levenscyclus van het product mag u het niet met het normale
huishoudelijke afval weggooien, maar moet u het naar een inzamelpunt
brengen voor recycling van elektrische en elektronische apparatuur. Dit wordt
aangeduid door het symbool op het product, in de handleiding en/of op de
verpakking.

Sommige materialen waaruit het product is vervaardigd, kunnen worden hergebruikt als
u ze naar een inzamelpunt brengt. Door onderdelen of grondstoffen van gebruikte
producten te hergebruiken, levert u een belangrijke bijdrage aan de bescherming van het
milieu. Wend u tot de plaatselijke overheid voor meer informatie over de inzamelpunten
bij u in de buurt.
11 Topcom-garantie
11.1 Garantieperiode
Op de Topcom-toestellen wordt een garantie van 24 maanden verleend. De
garantieperiode gaat in op de dag waarop het nieuwe toestel wordt gekocht. Er is geen
garantie op standaard of oplaadbare batterijen (type AA/AAA).
Kleine onderdelen of defecten die een verwaarloosbaar effect hebben op de werking of
waarde van het toestel zijn niet gedekt door de garantie.
De garantie moet worden bewezen door voorlegging van het originele aankoopbewijs of
kopie waarop de datum van aankoop en het toesteltype staat.
11.2 Afwikkeling van garantieclaims
Een defect toestel moet, samen met een geldig aankoopbewijs en een ingevulde
onderhoudskaart, worden teruggestuurd naar een Topcom-hersteldienst.
Als het toestel tijdens de garantieperiode een defect vertoont, zal Topcom of diens
officieel erkende hersteldienst eventuele defecten te wijten aan materiaal- of
productiefouten gratis herstellen, door defecte toestellen of onderdelen van defecte
toestellen ofwel te herstellen ofwel te vervangen. In het geval dat het toestel wordt
vervangen, kan de kleur en het model verschillend zijn van het oorspronkelijk gekochte
toestel.
De oorspronkelijke aankoopdatum is bepalend voor het begin van de garantieperiode.
De garantieperiode wordt niet verlengd als het toestel wordt vervangen of hersteld door
Topcom of diens officieel erkende hersteldienst.
11.3 Garantiebeperkingen
Schade of defecten te wijten aan onoordeelkundig gebruik of bediening en schade te
wijten aan het gebruik van niet-originele onderdelen of accessoires worden niet gedekt
door de garantie.
De garantie dekt geen schade te wijten aan externe factoren, zoals bliksem, water en
brand, noch enige transportschade.
Er kan geen garantie worden ingeroepen als het serienummer op het toestel is gewijzigd,
verwijderd of onleesbaar gemaakt.
Garantieclaims zijn ongeldig indien het toestel hersteld, gewijzigd of aangepast werd
door de koper.

1 Introduction
La maternité peut être l'un des plus beaux moments de votre vie, rempli de bonheur,
d'espoir et de plaisir. Et rien n'est plus palpitant que d'entendre les battements de coeur
de son bébé. Le Topcom Sweetheart est un moniteur foetal à effet Doppler.
Il s'agit d'un transducteur à ultrasons portable qui utilise l'effet Doppler pour détecter les
battements de coeur d'un foetus et produit ensuite une simulation audible des
battements de coeur. Il est basé sur le principe de la réflexion d'ondes sonores
renvoyées par le coeur de votre bébé. Les mouvements déclenchés par les battements
du coeur de votre bébé modifient la forme de ces ondes sonores. La sonde Doppler pour
bébé capte alors ces ondes sonores modifiées et les amplifie sous la forme de
battements de coeur de votre bébé. Vous pouvez utiliser le moniteur foetal à effet
Doppler chez vous en toute sécurité, sans l'aide d'un médecin.
• Il est parfois possible d'écouter le coeur d'un foetus après 10 à 12 semaines de
grossesse.
• Après 14 semaines, le coeur est audible dans 95 % des cas.
• Après 16 semaines, le coeur d'un foetus est presque toujours audible.
2 Instructions de sécurité
1. Ce produit est prévu pour un usage domestique uniquement. Il ne remplace
aucunement une consultation chez votre médecin.
2. Bien que les ultrasons ne présentent aucun danger pour votre bébé, vous ne
voulez prendre aucun risque. N'utilisez pas l'appareil plus de deux ou trois fois par
semaine pendant dix minutes.
3. Une fuite de piles peut endommager l'appareil. Retirez les piles lorsque vous
n'utilisez pas l'appareil pendant un long moment.
4. Ne jetez jamais de piles au feu car elles risquent d'exploser !
5. Pour éviter toute blessure, ne démontez pas l'appareil et veillez à ce qu'aucun
élément métallique ne touche les bornes des piles.
6. Ne trempez pas l'appareil dans l'eau.
7. Evitez tout choc violent, toute secousse brusque et toute exposition à l'humidité.
8. Afin d'éviter toute situation dangereuse, l'appareil ne doit pas être utilisé par des

9. L'appareil contient des pièces de haute précision. Par conséquent, évitez les
températures extrêmes, l'humidité et la lumière directe du soleil. Évitez de laisser
tomber ou de heurter violemment l'unité principale et protégez-la de la poussière.
10. Ne démontez pas l'unité principale.
11. Si l'appareil est conservé dans un endroit frais, laissez-le s'acclimater à la
température ambiante avant de l'utiliser.

3 Mise en place de la pile
• Ouvrez le compartiment à pile en dégageant le couvercle.
• Installez une pile de 9V (6LR61) non rechargeable en respectant la polarité
illustrée dans le compartiment à pile.
• Replacez le couvercle du compartiment à pile.
4 Connexion d'un écouteur
Connectez l'écouteur à la prise d'écouteur de la sonde comme indiqué.
Pour votre sécurité, n'utilisez que l'écouteur fourni.
5 Connexion à un amplificateur audio ou à un
enregistreur.
Connectez une extrémité du câble audio fourni à la prise d'écouteur de la sonde et l'autre
extrémité à l'entrée de votre amplificateur ou de votre enregistreur.
Ajustez le niveau de sortie audio de votre sonde Doppler pour éviter toute distorsion.
Tout le signal audio sera transféré vers votre système audio.
N'utilisez pas l'appareil près d'un téléphone portable ou
d'un four à micro-ondes, ceci afin d'éviter des résultats
imprécis dus à une interférence électromagnétique entre
les équipements électriques et électroniques.

Lorsque le voyant DEL est rouge, la pile doit être remplacée.
Évitez de court-circuiter la pile et ne la jetez pas au feu.
Enlevez la pile si cet appareil ne doit pas être utilisé pendant un
long moment.

6 Examens obstétricaux
Allongez-vous ou asseyez-vous confortablement.
• Allumez la sonde avec le bouton de réglage du
volume (1). Le voyant DEL s'allume en vert.
Lorsque la pile est trop faible, le voyant DEL
(2) devient rouge.
• Enduisez la surface de la sonde avec du gel de
contact (3). (Vous pouvez vous procurer le gel
de contact dans n'importe quelle pharmacie
locale.)
• Placez la sonde Doppler sur votre ventre, juste
en dessous de votre nombril, mais au-dessus de
votre pubis.
• Commencez à déplacer la sonde lentement à
partir du milieu de votre ventre. Faites glisser la
sonde délicatement, en avant et en arrière,
veillez à parcourir tout votre ventre. Le but de
l'examen est d'intercepter le coeur du foetus
avec le faisceau de la sonde. Le faisceau se
déplace dans une direction relativement droite,
tout comme un faisceau de lumière.
L'illustration montre la position adaptée pour trouver les battements de coeur du bébé.

Evitez les bulles d'air ou tout espace entre la peau et la sonde.
Pour réduire l'électricité statique sur l'appareil, appliquez une
dose de gel à ultrasons plus ou moins importante. Un excès de
gel peut augmenter le niveau de bruit.

Les battements de coeur de votre bébé peuvent vous sembler
beaucoup plus rapides que ce à quoi vous vous attendiez au
début. Le rythme cardiaque du foetus peuvent varier entre 120 et
180 battements par minute (bpm). C'est beaucoup plus rapide que
notre propre rythme cardiaque. Beaucoup de femmes disent que
le bruit des battements de coeur de leur bébé ressemble à celui
d'un cheval au galop.

• Dès que la sonde sera correctement positionnée, vous entendrez très clairement le
coeur de votre bébé.
• Tournez le bouton de réglage du volume (1) sur la sonde pour augmenter ou
diminuer le volume audio.
• Si le son n'est pas très clair, ou s'il est trop faible, déplacez lentement la sonde
jusqu'à ce que vous soyez satisfaite.
• Après votre examen, coupez le courant. Le voyant LED (2) sur la sonde doit
s'éteindre.

Double battement de coeur
Il arrive que le moniteur foetal à effet Doppler donne l'impression de
capter deux battements de coeur séparés. Ne paniquez pas – cela ne
signifie pas nécessairement que vous attendez des jumeaux ! La
façon dont les ondes sonores se réfléchissent sur le coeur de bébé
produit parfois cet effet. Veillez à compter séparément les battements
de chaque coeur supposé ; les jumeaux ont deux rythmes cardiaques
différents.
Si vous ne parvenez pas à entendre les battements de coeur
Il est souvent très difficile d'entendre les battements de coeur de son
bébé avec un moniteur foetal à effet Doppler. Au début de la
grossesse, les battements de coeur peuvent ne pas être assez forts
pour être audibles avec cet appareil. Votre bébé peut aussi se trouver
tout simplement dans une position qui empêche la sonde Doppler de
capter le rythme cardiaque.
Quoi qu'il advienne, ne paniquez pas !
Effectuez les tests uniquement lorsque votre vessie est pleine, afin
que votre utérus soit repoussé plus près de la surface de la sonde
Doppler. Si vous n'entendez toujours pas les battements de coeur,
réessayez ultérieurement ou faites appel à votre conseillère santé –
elle vous expliquera comment utiliser votre sonde Doppler.
