III.Operation
1.Avoiddangerousenvironments—Donotusethe
machineinrainorindamporwetlocations.
2.Usethepropermachineforyour
application—Usingthemachineforpurposes
otheranitsintendedusecouldprovedangerous
toyouandbystanders.
3.Preventunintentionalstarting—Ensurethatthe
switchisintheOFFpositionbeforeconnecting
tothebatterypackandhandlingthemachine.
Donotcarrythemachinewithyourngeronthe
switchorenergizethemachinewiththeswitch
intheONposition.
4.Donotgrasptheexposedcuttingbladesor
cuttingedgeswhenpickinguporholdingthe
machine.
5.Operatethemachineonlyindaylightorgood
articiallight.
6.Removethebatterypackfromthemachine
beforeadjustingitorchangingaccessories.
7.Keepyourhandsandfeetawayfromthecutting
areaandallmovingparts.
8.Stopthemachine,removethebatterypackfrom
themachine,andwaitforallmovementtostop
beforeadjusting,servicing,cleaning,orstoring
themachine.
9.Removethebatterypackfromthemachine
wheneveryouleaveitunattended.
10.Donotforcethemachine—Allowthemachineto
dothejobbetterandsaferattherateforwhichit

11.Donotoverreach—Keepproperfootingand

offthemachineandremovethebatterybefore

15.Startthemotorcarefullyaccordingto
manufacturerinstructionsandwithfeetwell
awayfromthemachine.
16.Nevertransportamachinewhilethemotoris
running.
17.Stayalert—Watchwhatyouaredoinganduse
commonsensewhenoperatingthemachine.
Donotusethemachinewhileill,tired,orunder
theinuenceofalcoholordrugs.
18.Ensurethattheventilationopeningsarekept
clearofdebris.
19.Underabusiveconditions,thebatterypackmay
ejectliquid;avoidcontact.Ifyouaccidently
comeintocontactwiththeliquid,ushwith
water.Iftheliquidcontactsyoureyes,seek
medicalhelp.Liquidejectedfromthebattery
packmaycauseirritationorburns.
20.CAUTION—Amistreatedbatterypackmay
presentariskofreorchemicalburn.Donot
disassemblethebatterypack.Donotheatthe
batterypackabove68°C(154°F)orincinerate
it.ReplacethebatterypackwithagenuineToro
batterypackonly;usinganothertypeofbattery
packmaycauseareorexplosion.Keep
batterypacksoutofthereachofchildrenand
intheoriginalpackaginguntilyouarereadyto
usethem.
IV.MaintenanceandStorage
1.Maintainthemachinewithcare—Keepitclean
andingoodrepairforbestperformanceandto
reducetheriskofinjury.Followtheinstructions
forlubricatingandchangingaccessories.Keep
handlesdry,clean,andfreefromoilandgrease.
2.Keepallnuts,boltsandscrewstighttoensure
themachineisinsafeworkingcondition.
3.Whenthebatterypackisnotinuse,keepit
awayfrommetalobjectssuchaspaperclips,
coins,keys,nails,andscrewsthatcanmakea

connectionfrom1terminaltoanother.Shorting
thebatteryterminalsmaycauseburnsorare.
4.Keepyourhandsandfeetawayfrommoving
parts.
5.Stopthemachine,removethebatterypackfrom
themachine,andwaitforallmovementtostop
beforeadjusting,servicing,cleaning,orstoring
themachine.
6.Checkthemachinefordamagedparts—Ifthere
aredamagedguardsorotherparts,determine
whetheritwilloperateproperly.Checkfor
misalignedandbindingmovingparts,broken
parts,mounting,andanyotherconditionthat
mayaffectitsoperation.Unlessindicatedinthe
instructions,haveanAuthorizedServiceDealer
repairorreplaceadamagedguardorpart.
7.Ifthebladebecomesworn,bent,ordamaged,
replaceit;contactanauthorizedTorodistributor.
8.Donotreplacetheexistingnon-metalliccutting
meansonthemachinewithametalliccutting
means.

batterypack,orbatterychargerexceptas

•Holdthecultivatorwithyourrighthandontherear
handleandyourlefthandonthefronthandle.
•Keeparmgripwithbothhandswhileinoperation.
•Thecultivatorshouldbeheldatacomfortable
positionwiththerearhandleatabouthipheight.
•Inspecttheareawhereyouwillusethecultivator
andremoveallobjectssuchaslargerocks,
trash,andbranchesbeforecultivatingtoprevent
equipmentdamage.
•Alwaysbegincultivatingwiththeslowestspeed
possible.Increasethespeedifconditionspermit.
•Donotplaceexcessivebodyweightonthe
cultivator.Usetheweightofthemachineto
cultivatemoreefciently.

Maintenance
Aftereachuseofthecultivator,completethefollowing:
1.Removethebatteryfromthecultivator.
2.Wipethecultivatorcleanwithadampcloth.Do
nothosethecultivatordownorsubmergeitin
water.
3.Wipeorscrapecleanthecuttingheadareaany
timethereisanaccumulationofdebris.
4.Checkandtightenallfasteners.Ifanypartis
damagedorlost,repairorreplaceit.
5.Brushdebrisawayfromairintakeventsand
exhaustonmotorhousingtopreventthemotor
fromoverheating.
Storage
Important:Storethetool,batterypack,and
chargeronlyintemperaturesthatarewithinthe
appropriaterange;refertoSpecications(page8).
Important:Ifyouarestoringthebatterypackfor
theoff-season,removethebatterypackfromthe
toolandchargethebatterypackuntil2or3LED
indicatorsturngreenonthebattery.Donotstore
afullychargedorfullydepletedbattery.Whenyou
arereadytousethetoolagain,chargethebattery
packuntiltheleftindicatorlightturnsgreenon
thechargerorall4LEDindicatorsturngreenon
thebattery.
•Disconnecttheproductfromthepowersupply
(i.e.,removetheplugfromthepowersupplyorthe
batterypack)andcheckfordamageafteruse.
•Donotstorethetoolwiththebatterypackinstalled.
•Cleanallforeignmaterialfromtheproduct.
•Whennotinuse,storethetool,batterypack,and
batterychargeroutofthereachofchildren.

forRecycling
Important:Uponremoval,covertheterminalsof
thebatterypackwithheavy-dutyadhesivetape.
Donotattempttodestroyordisassemblethe
batterypackorremoveanyofitscomponents.

Call2Recyclesealcanberecycledatany
participatingretailerorbatteryrecycling
facilityintheCall2Recycleprogram(US
andCanadaonly).Tolocateaparticipating

Prop65appliestoanycompanyoperatinginCalifornia,sellingproductsinCalifornia,ormanufacturingproductsthatmaybesoldinorbroughtinto
California.ItmandatesthattheGovernorofCaliforniamaintainandpublishalistofchemicalsknowntocausecancer,birthdefects,and/orother
reproductiveharm.Thelist,whichisupdatedannually,includeshundredsofchemicalsfoundinmanyeverydayitems.ThepurposeofProp65isto
informthepublicaboutexposuretothesechemicals.
Prop65doesnotbanthesaleofproductscontainingthesechemicalsbutinsteadrequireswarningsonanyproduct,productpackaging,orliteraturewith
theproduct.Moreover,aProp65warningdoesnotmeanthataproductisinviolationofanyproductsafetystandardsorrequirements.Infact,the

Prop65warningsarerequiredunderCalifornialawonly.ThesewarningsareseenthroughoutCaliforniainawiderangeofsettings,includingbutnot
limitedtorestaurants,grocerystores,hotels,schools,andhospitals,andonawidevarietyofproducts.Additionally,someonlineandmailorder
retailersprovideProp65warningsontheirwebsitesorincatalogs.
HowdotheCaliforniawarningscomparetofederallimits?
Prop65standardsareoftenmorestringentthanfederalandinternationalstandards.TherearevarioussubstancesthatrequireaProp65warning
atlevelsthatarefarlowerthanfederalactionlimits.Forexample,theProp65standardforwarningsforleadis0.5μg/day,whichiswellbelow

Whydon’tallsimilarproductscarrythewarning?
•ProductssoldinCaliforniarequireProp65labellingwhilesimilarproductssoldelsewheredonot.
•AcompanyinvolvedinaProp65lawsuitreachingasettlementmayberequiredtouseProp65warningsforitsproducts,butothercompanies
makingsimilarproductsmayhavenosuchrequirement.
•TheenforcementofProp65isinconsistent.
•CompaniesmayelectnottoprovidewarningsbecausetheyconcludethattheyarenotrequiredtodosounderProp65;alackofwarningsfora
productdoesnotmeanthattheproductisfreeoflistedchemicalsatsimilarlevels.
WhydoesToroincludethiswarning?
Torohaschosentoprovideconsumerswithasmuchinformationaspossiblesothattheycanmakeinformeddecisionsabouttheproductstheybuyand
use.T oroprovideswarningsincertaincasesbasedonitsknowledgeofthepresenceofoneormorelistedchemicalswithoutevaluatingthelevelof
exposure,asnotallthelistedchemicalsprovideexposurelimitrequirements.WhiletheexposurefromT oroproductsmaybenegligibleorwellwithinthe
“nosignicantrisk”range,outofanabundanceofcaution,T orohaselectedtoprovidetheProp65warnings.Moreover,ifTorodoesnotprovidethese
