1.Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the Toshiba industrial inverter “TOSVERT VF-A7/P7”.
This manual functionally describes the light-load high-speed operation of our "TOSVERT VF-A7/P7" for
industrial use.
2.Function
This parameter provides a function of more raising the speed of motor during light load to improve the
operating efficiency of machine.
It is effectively applicable to elevators and conveyers under constant-torque loads with alternated light and
heavy loads.

4.Operation
Typical examples of light-load high-speed operation are first described.
The following figure is a timing chart in case of using the automatic mode of light-load high-speed operation
(F330=2):
Example: Automatic mode of light-load high-speed operation (F330=2): Forward run
The judgement of light load or heavy load shall be performed using the absolute value of torque current.
Light-load detection shall be performed when the operation frequency is light-load high-speed operation switching
lower limit frequency (F331) or higher after the speed is achieved.
Heavy load detection or the input of directed speed value less than light-load high-speed operation switching
lower limit frequency (F331) during high-speed operation cancels high-speed operation, returning to the directed
speed frequency operation.

4.1. Mode description
In case of using the light-load high-speed operation function, the light-load high-speed operation mode shall be
determined at first.
There are five kinds of modes, to be selected with F330 (light-load high-speed operation selection).

4.1.1. Description of F330=1 or 6 (user interface) operation
Light-load high-speed operation can be performed by returning the light-load detection signal to the input terminal
as preset-speed data when light-load high-speed operation selection F330=1 or 6 (user interface) is set. However,
in case of user interface, because of frequency during light-load high-speed operation being the input frequency,
high-speed operation will not be stopped even if the directed speed value is set to the switching frequency or less. If
you want to stop high-speed operation with the directed speed value, use the enabled-terminal effective preset-
speed mode (F330=5 or 10).
An example of returning the light-load detection signal to the input terminal S4 (connecting the light-load detection
signal output to the preset-speed command 4) is described as follows:

4.1.2. Operation with F330=2, 4, 7 or 9 (automatic mode)
It is a mode of light-load high-speed operation with automatic light-load high-speed operation frequency (F341)
when light-load high-speed operation selection F330=2, 4, 7 or 9 (automatic mode) is set.
F330=2 or 7 : Continuous automatic mode
F330=4 or 9 : Enabled-terminal effective automatic mode
F330=4 or 9 is the setting of 2 or 7 plus the enabling signal of light-load high-speed operation function.
The following example indicates the enabling signal assigned to S4 terminal:
In case of using no light-load high-speed operation enabling signal (F330=2 or 7), the operation is under
continuously-enabled condition, which is the same as the operation during S4 terminal continuously ON in the
above chart.
When the enabling sinal is turned OFF during light-load high-speed operation, light-load high-speed operation will
be stopped, to operate with the directed normal speed value.
In case of OFF input, heavy load detection will be stopped, to start constant-speed load judgement after light-load
high-speed operation load waiting time, which commences a measurement when the directed speed value is
achieved.

4.1.3. Operation with F330=3, 5, 8 or 10 (preset-speed mode)
When light-load high-speed operation selection F330=3, 5, 8 or 10 (preset-speed mode) is set, a light-load
detection internally turns ON the preset-speed command 4. Therefore, during light-load detection, operation shall
be performed with the preset-speed frequencies of 8~15. At this time, the input terminal S4 can independently be
used as a normal function-assigned terminal.
Because of the directed speed value being the input preset-speed command, high-speed operation will be stopped
if the input preset-speed operation frequency is set to less than light-load high-speed operation switching lower limit
frequency (F331).
F330=3 or 8 : Continuous preset-speed mode
F330=5 or 10 : Enabled-terminal effective preset-speed mode
F330=5 or 10 is the setting of 3 plus the enabling signal of light-load high-speed operation function.
The following example of F330=5 or 10 indicates the enabling signal assigned to S4 terminal:

4.2. Input/output terminal function
This section describes the functions as shown on the following table, which are not detailed in the instruction
manual of inverter unit among input/output terminal functions related with light-load high-speed operation.

4.2.1. Input terminal function (light-load high-speed operation
enabling signals 120 and 121)
This function is only effective during F330 (light-load high-speed operation selection)=4, 5, 9 or 10 (enabled-
terminal effective mode). It shall be used in case of setting light-load high-speed operation to enabled or disabled at
external terminals.
This function can be assigned to input terminals F, R, ST, RES, S1, S2, S3 and S4.
Refer to an example of assignment to S4 terminal in section 4.1.2 "Operation with F330=2, 4, 7 or 9 (automatic
mode)".
Using this function allows light-load high-speed operation from external input terminals. Therefore, it is
recommended to use this function when you want to control whether light-load high-speed operation is performed or
not using terminal ON/OFF signals.
4.2.2. Output terminal function (load detection outputs 106~109)
This function provides two types of output patterns depending on F330 (light-load high-speed operation selection)
settings.
1) F330=0: In case of setting disabled light-load high-speed operation
The following figure indicates the timing chart of load detection signal.
After light-load detection time (F333) in disabled light-load high-speed operation mode, simple light-load or
heavy load output will be performed depending on load conditions.
2) F330≠0: In case of setting light-load high-speed operation
The following figure indicates the timing chart of load detection signal.
In light-load high-speed operation mode, even if light load is detected after heavy load detection, no light-load
detection output will be performed (under heavy load detection) until reset (shut-down command) as described
in section 4.1.

4.3.Light-load detection mode
When F342 (Light-load detection mode) is used, the sign of the positive and negative can be judged for F335~F340.
F342 is set as follows.
1) Set “+128" for the detection with the sign.
2) Set “+0" when it is rolling up of the forward rotation. When it is small compared with the detection
level, it is judged a light load.
Set “+64" when it is rolling up of the reverse rotation. When it is large compared with the detection
level, it is judged a light load.
3) Judge the positive and negative of each mode according to the table below, and total the value.
4) Set the total of 1)~3) to F342.
Ex.) Forward: roll up, reverse: roll down, detection with torque

4.4.Detailed description of light-load high-speed operation
Relation between parameters of F331~F341 and light-load high-speed operation is described here.
Timing chart as shown in the next page indicates an example of forward run in automatic light-load high-speed
mode (F330=2).
Based on this example, the operation is detailed.
The judgement of light load/heavy load in light-load high-speed operation is performed by detecting the absolute
value of torque current. The criteria can independently be set for forward and reverse runs, respectively. The
following operation will be performed after start-up.
1) After start-up (A in the figure), the average of load torque current will be calculated during light-load high-speed
operation load detection time (F333) (interval C in the figure) after light-load high-speed operation waiting time
(F332) (interval B in the figure). If a result of calculation is less than switching load torque current during
forward/reverse run F335 (F338) (D in the figure), it will be determined to be light load to perform high-speed
operation.
2) In case of light load, acceleration will be performed up to high-speed operation frequency (set with automatic
light-load high-speed operation frequency (F314) for F330=2). Heavy load during acceleration is detected in the
interval (F in the figure) from the point when operation frequency reaches the achieved speed range (E in the
figure) till light-load high-speed operation load waiting time to complete acceleration (F332).
In this interval (G in the figure), if load torque current exceeds heavy load torque current during acceleration in
forward direction (reverse direction) for more than light-load high-speed operation heavy load detection time
(F334), it will be determined to be heavy load during acceleration, causing light-load high-speed operation to be
stopped (N in the figure indicates an example of stopped high-speed operation due to the judgement of heavy
load during acceleration in forward direction).
In the constant-speed interval of high-speed operation, the average of load torque current will be calculated
during light-load high-speed operation heavy load detection time (F334) (interval H in the figure). If it exceeds
heavy load torque current during constant speed in forward direction (reverse direction) F337 (F340), high-speed
operation will be stopped (M in the figure indicates an example of stopped high-speed operation due to the
judgement of heavy load during constant speed in forward direction).
3) If the directed frequency value is set to less than light-load high-speed operation switching lower limit frequency
(F331) during high-speed operation (J in the figure), deceleration will be performed toward the directed
frequency value (interval K in the figure).
When the operation frequency reaches below light-load high-speed operation switching lower limit frequency
(F331), light-load high-speed operation will be reset. In this case, the operation of reacceleration will be the same
as the above in item 1.
However, if the directed frequency value is again set to (F331) or higher before the operation frequency reaches
below light-load high-speed operation switching lower limit frequency F331 (L in the figure), light-load high-speed
operation will be continued.
Once high-speed operation is stopped due to heavy load detection, even with light load detected again, no
light-load high-speed operation will be resumed unless the operation signal is turned OFF or the operation
frequency is lowered under light-load high-speed operation switching lower limit frequency (F331).
