Screen and Headlight Washer Systems
Headlight Washer Pumps
Headlight washer pumps are used for
headlight lens cleaning. They supply
the headlight lens washer nozzles with
a corresponding amount of water and
provide the high water pressure needed
for this application (12 V).
Screen Washer Pumps, Mono –
Centrifugal Pumps
Mono pumps have one outlet and sup-
ply the front or rear screen with water.
Two pumps are needed to supply both
screens (12 V or 24 V).
Screen Washer Pumps, Mono –
Gear-type Pumps
Self-priming mono pumps
(12 V or 24 V).
Screen Washer Pumps, Dual –
Centrifugal Pumps
Dual pumps can output fluid in two
directions. By using just one pump,
washer fluid is pumped through one
(or both) of the outlets to the front or
rear screen (12 V or 24 V).
Accessories
Fluid-level Switches
Fluid-level switches are used to warn of
low fluid levels. When the fluid falls
below a defined level, activation of a
reed contact causes a warning light to
come on.
Connectors
Angle, T, I and Y pieces are used to join
different segments of the washer hose
system.
Valves
Anti-drain back valves prevent any
return flow of the washer fluid, sub-
stantially improving the response time
of the washer system. Anti-drain back
valves can also be integrated into the
nozzle assembly.
Gaskets
Gaskets are fitted between pump
intake ports and reservoirs. Combined
with a filter they protect the pumps
against impurities, thereby preventing
damage.
Nozzle Needle
Nozzle needles are used to adjust ball-
type nozzles.
Adapters
Adapters are required for the 1:1 con-
nection of certain pumps in some
vehicles (see chapter entitled “Product
Application”)
Washer Fluid Reservoirs
The reservoirs hold the cleaning fluid.
Washer Nozzles
Washer nozzles deliver water for clean-
ing front and rear windshields, and
headlights. A heatable version of the
nozzles (12 V) is available in some
cases. Some nozzles are fitted with an
anti-drain valve to prevent a return
flow of fluid.
Ball-type Nozzles
There are two types of ball-type noz-
zles: single-jet nozzles (1) and multi-jet
nozzles (2/4). The water is sprayed
onto the screen as a corresponding
number of individual jets.
