2. INTRODUCTION
The VICI DBS®HP Plus Tower produces nitrogen by utilizing a combination of ltration and pressure swing adsorption
(PSA) technology. Standard compressed air is ltered by high efciency coalescing lters to remove all contaminants
down to 5 micron. For ultra sensitive applications such as GC carrier and make-up gas, units also include the additional
heated catalyst module to ensure hydrocarbons are removed to <0.1 ppm. The air then passes through two columns
lled with a proprietary blended carbon molecular sieve (CMS) which adsorbs O2, CO2and moisture. These are
desorbed to the atmosphere during the pressure swing cycle leaving a supply of ultra pure nitrogen.
2.1 Symbol Denitions
SYMBOL DESCRIPTION
General warning. Caution is necessary when operating the device or control
close to where the symbol is placed, or to indicate that the current situation
needs operator awareness or operator action in order to avoid undesirable
consequences.
The manual must be consulted in all cases where this symbol is marked on
the device.
Risk of asphyxia. Caution is necessary when operating the device in a not
sufciently ventilated area.
Oxidant material. Caution is necessary due to the presence of oxidant material.
WEEE symbol. When discard this product, it must be sent to separate collection
facilities for recovery and recycling.
Fuse. Notify replaceable fuse place.

3. SAFETY
3.1 Personal Safety Instructions
When using your HP Plus Tower, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:
• The quantity of dust in the ambient air can be very different from one place to another
We recommend you replace the dust lters every 4000 hours.
• In some dusty areas, this maintenance needs to be performed more frequently.
• Clogged dust lter may damage the device or results in a bad nitrogen quality.
• The power supply main cable connector is the disconnect device in case of
emergency. It must be easily accessible at any time.
• If the HP Plus Tower/Rack is used in a way not specied by VICI DBS, the
equipment warranty becomes void.
3.2 Instrument Safety Instructions
• The HP Plus Tower/Rack is a nitrogen generator.
• Do not let it run with the outlet open to the air in a low volume room.
• The increase of the nitrogen (and decrease of oxygen) may cause human disease. It is the
responsibility of the user to check if the room is appropriate or if an O2measurement is
necessary.
• The HP Plus Tower/Rack drains oxygen as waste.
• Oxygen ratio in the air could change around the device in a low volume or not
sufcient ventilated room.
• If fuel gases are present around, their explosive or ammable limits could be
affected. It is the responsibility of the user to check if the room is appropriate or
if an O2measurement is necessary.

5. PRESENTATION OF THE DEVICE
5.1 Front View
On the front of the device, there is a luminescent LED bar. When the unit is running properly, the line is
illuminated. This line is blinking red when the HP Plus Tower/Rack is in alarm, and blinking blue (0.5 Hz) when
catalytic oven is warming up.

The HP Plus Tower is designed to be placed in a vertical position. After unpacking, set the instrument on a
table with the front panel facing forward and make sure that the back panel is not obstructed.
The HP Plus Rack can be placed on a table or in a 19” rack cabinet. Make sure the extraction fan on the back
panel is not obstructed.

6. INSTALLATION
6.1.1. Power Supply Settings
The current power supply setting of the device is indicated on the ID Sticker on the back of the device. The
HP Plus Tower/Rack standard setting is 210-230V /50-60Hz.
If other voltages are requested, this should be specied in the order. The list of voltage and frequencies
settings possible are bellow. In any case the voltage of the power supply must not differ more than 10% of
the nominal value.

The above-mentioned values are considered for an instrument transported in its original new packaging.
The HP Plus Tower could be elevated from any points under the chassis base.
Recommendations for Transport:
When the instrument is shipped back to the factory for repair, the HP Plus Tower/Rack should be packed in its
original packaging with the inlets and outlets protected against any accidental penetration of dust or particles
of the package.

8. OPERATION
8.1. Starting the Generator
Read the Operating Manual carefully.
• Connect the HP Plus Tower/Rack to the power supply
• Connect compressed air to the coalescent lter and release the pressure (P≥7bar, Tdp≤-40°C)
• Connect the outlet gas “OUT” (Swagelok G1/8”) of the device to your application
• Connect the drain coalescent lter to an external tank
• Push the On/Off switch to start the application
• Check if the setting voltage is correct
• The power supply main cable connector is the disconnect device in case of
emergency, it must be easily accessible at any time.
8.2. Settings
• The nitrogen pressure may be set from the front side of the instrument
• The authorized pressure delivered is from 0 to 5 barg. Beyond 5 bargs, the pressure stability and nitrogen
purity is not guaranteed
• Pressure is set by the pressure regulator knob (xed by a fastening ring nut)
• The pressure is displayed on manometer
CAUTION: The specied ow rate is only given at 5 barg (75 psig)

8.3.1. Annual Maintenance Kit
The HP Tower/Rack is designed to operate continuously for an entire year before service is required. An annual
maintenance kit is available as a spare part. This kit includes the following parts:
• 1 Inlet lter replacement cartridge
NOTE: More frequent replacement of the inlet lter may be required depending on the quality of the
supplied air. Alternatively, more ltration can be applied upstream of the N2 HP Tower/Rack.
WARNING: Before servicing, make sure that the system shutdown has been
performed according to instructions above.

8.3.2. Three Year Catalyst Replacement Kit
A 3-year catalyst replacement kit is available as a spare part. The catalyst must be replaced every 3 years to
ensure the removal of CO and HC to the 0.1 ppm level. This kit includes the following parts:
• 1 Oven/Catalyst
• 1 Cooling coil

1. Remove the lter bowl by pressing on the lever and turning the bowl counterclockwise until the arrows are
aligned (Diagram 1 and 2).
2. Unscrew the base element of the lter and remove the element (Diagram 3).
3. Insert the new element from your annual maintenance kit and reassemble the lter in reverse order
(Diagram 4).
WARNING: Only qualied staff should perform the service on this generator. If the
generator is damaged by improper maintenance, the warranty will lapse.

8.4. LED Light Band
The light band indicates the state of the device.
LIGHT STATE DEVICE STATE
Off Device is off, gas is blocked
Green - Solid Startup check is okay
Blue - Solid Device runs normally and the optional catalyst has reached the operating temperature
650ºC +/- 40ºC (1202ºF +/ - 104ºF).
Red - Blinking Device is in alarm status.
Blue - Blinking Catalytic oven is heated up. Gas generation is not blocked.

9. ALARMS AND WARNINGS
When an alarm or a warning occurs, the LED band blinks in red. When the device works properly, the LED
band remains at a steady state. When the light is turned off the generator is switched off.
9.1. Warnings
ITEM DESCRIPTION
Warmup After the start of the HP Plus Tower / Rack, or after a stand-by mode, the catalytic oven
is not heated up to its working temperature yet. Therefore, the produced nitrogen is
not hydrocarbon free. The instrument will start completely and consequently producing
nitrogen when catalytic oven temperature reaches 610°C (1130ºF).

During an alarm, the alarm type is displayed as an 8-digit
red number through the little windows in the left side of the
generator as indicated in the picture.
ALARM DESCRIPTION
Temp. too low (n. 5) Catalytic oven temperature at steady state is under 610°C
Temp. too high (n. 6) Catalytic oven temperature is too high (>700°C)
High pressure (n. 2) Inlet pressure is, or has been, too high (>9 bar)

10. TROUBLESHOOTING
• Please refer to the service manual before making any changes to the instrument.
• Please contact our service department before doing any repairs.
• If the device is open without agreement of the VICI DBS Service department, the
warranty will be void.
