In recent years, the building sector has made significant progress in
the area of energy savings. This means that the annual heat demand
for an existing detached house is approx. 200 kWh/(m2 × a), while
comparable new buildings, built in accordance with the Energy Saving
Ordinance (EnEV), only require around 70 kWh/(m2 × a).
The heat demand of domestic accommodation is essentially the result
of the transmission and ventilation heat demand. The significant reduc-
tion of the heat demand is achieved by rigorous thermal insulation and
therefore a noticeably reduced transmission heat demand.
The lower the transmission heat demand the higher the ventilation heat
demand as a percentage of the total heat demand of the building.
Assuming that, in an existing building, the ventilation heat demand
represents approx. 25 % of the total heat demand, then that proportion
rises for a building constructed in accordance with the WSchV 1995
[Germany] to around 50 % of total demand.
It is therefore logical that comprehensive thermal insulation starts with
a reduction of the ventilation heat demand. This requires a particularly
airtight method of construction. However, this will reduce the level of
air changes that is essential for comfort and health as well as for the
prevention of building damage.
1.2 Controlled domestic ventilation
To keep the ventilation heat demand as low as possible, whilst afford-
ing optimum air changes, it would seem sensible to employ technical
equipment for room ventilation. These systems are designed to sup-
port occupants in their endeavour to ventilate in an energy efficient
manner. Through advanced domestic ventilation systems, there is no
need for window ventilation particularly during the heating season, and
unchecked heat losses can be avoided.

Fresh outdoor air is drawn in via an outdoor air inlet and an external
air duct. When it enters the ventilation unit, it is first routed through a
filter, purified and then preheated by a countercurrent heat exchanger.
The preheated outdoor air is then routed through pipes to the supply
air areas.
The extract air is drawn out of rooms where moisture and odours are
created (kitchen, bathroom, WC) through pipes and transported to the
ventilation unit. There, the extract air is purified by means of a filter to
protect the countercurrent heat exchanger. At the heat exchanger, the
extract air preheats the cooler outdoor air according to the counter-
current principle before it is routed out of the building via the exhaust
air duct.
Constant flow rate control ensures a defined, constant flow rate on the
supply air and extract air side, irrespective of the static pipework pres-
sure.
At the remote control, various operating programs can be manually
selected or programmed as required.
The ventilation unit must always remain switched on to expel any
moisture.
If the system is switched off, there is a risk of condensation in the ven-
tilation unit and on the building structure (moisture damage).
Only with Vitovent 300 for max. air flow rate 300 m3/h or
400 m3/h
The integral bypass damper automatically switches between the oper-
ating modes with or without heat recovery. This changeover is subject
to the temperature (for more details, see page 58).
The automatic function of the bypass damper can be switched ON or
OFF by remote control.

to the curves in the supply air/outdoor air or in the extract air/exhaust
air. For sizing of the Vitovent and calculation of the air flow rate and

3.1 Product description

Fresh outdoor air is drawn in via an exterior wall inlet and the outdoor
air duct. When it enters the ventilation unit, it is first routed via fine filter
F7, purified and then preheated by the countercurrent heat exchanger.
The preheated outdoor air is then routed through the pipework to the
supply air areas.
The extract air is drawn out of rooms where moisture and odours are
created (kitchen, bathroom, WC) through pipes and transported to the
ventilation unit. Filters in the extract air valves (accessories) and the
extract air filter in the ventilation unit protect the pipework and the heat
exchanger against contamination. At the heat exchanger, the extract
air preheats the cooler outdoor air according to the countercurrent
principle before it is routed out of the building via the exhaust air
duct.

Subject to the temperatures inside and outside the building, heat
recovery can be switched off automatically by closing the bypass
damper. This enables the inside of the building, e.g. on cooler summer
nights, to be cooled by the outdoor air.
Constant flow rate control ensures a defined, constant flow rate on the
supply air and extract air side, irrespective of the static pipework pres-
sure.
To dispel any humidity in the home and avoid moisture damage, the
ventilation unit must remain permanently on.
To heat supply air, a hydraulic reheater bank (accessory) can be
installed in the Vitovent 300-F. This is supplied as direct heating circuit
A1/HC1 by the heat pump. A supply air temperature of up to 52 °C is
possible.
For heating systems without a heating water buffer cylinder, the heat-
ing water buffer cylinder (25 l, accessory) must be installed in the
Vitovent 300-F to increase the heating water volume when using the
hydraulic reheater bank.
Vitovent 300-F is controlled entirely by the heat pump with heat pump
control unit Vitotronic 200, type WO1C. In addition to the operating and
time programs, the control parameters for the ventilation unit are also
set there. Suitable remote control units are available as accessories
for the heat pump.
Vitovent 300-F has active monitoring of the installed supply air and
extract air filters. When a filter needs to be changed, this is signalled
the heat pump control unit.
Passive house use
Vitovent 300-F meets the requirements for passive house use, both
for pure ventilation and for supply air heating in conjunction with the
heat pump (for passive house requirements, see page 62).
