Driver'sresponsibility
•Asthedriver,youareresponsiblefor
thesafetyandcomfortofthepassengers
duringthejourney.Therefore,donot
drivethebusbeforeyouhavereadthis
driver'smanual.Youmustbefamiliarwith
alltheindicatorsandwarninglightsand
knowwhattodoifsomethingunexpected
happens.
•Followtherecommendedserviceand
maintenanceprogramtomaintainthebus's
conditionandsafety.
•Asthedriverofthevehicle,youshouldbe
awareofthevehicleweightandloading
capacity.Seeinstructionsonwarning
stickers,thevehicleregistrationbookand
ontheidenticationplate.
•Asthedriverofthevehicle,itisyour
responsibilitytoforeseeanyhazardsthat
couldthreatenyourpassengers.
•Itisalsoyourresponsibilitytoensure
thatallthesafetyequipmentofthebusis
inplace.Thereforecheckregularlythe
workingorderofsafetybelts,emergency
doorandwindowopening,doorsensitive
edges,reextinguishersandrstaid
equipment.

TheI-Shiftisanautomatedmechanical
transmissionwith12forwardgearsand4
reversegears.Thereisnoclutchpedalandthe
gearshiftingiscontrolledbythetransmission
orthedriverthroughtheergonomicgear
selectorsothatthedrivercanconcentrateon
trafc.Ifnecessary,thedrivercanchoseto
shiftmanually.
I-shiftisdeliveredwithtwodifferentsoftware
packages.Assomefunctionsareoptional,
noteverythinginthisdocumentisapplicable
toyourgearbox.
Display
SelecttheINDICA TORSmenuonthedisplay
toshowinformationaboutI-shift(validboth
whenthevehicleisstoppedandwhenthe
vehicleisinmotion).Informationaboutthe
transmissionwillbepresentedonthedriver
display.

shiftpadgearselectorotherwisetheengine
willnotstart.
Whentheairpressuretothegearbox
istoolow,awarningwillbedisplayed
automatically.Aniconwillappearonthe
displayatthesametimeastheinformation
lampcomeson.Waituntilthelamphasgone
outbeforedrivingoff.Iconforlowairpressuretogearbox
Stoppingthevehicle
Whenthevehicleisstationary:
•Applytheparkingbrake.
•PushtheI-shiftgearselectorpadNbutton
(neutral).
•Switchofftheengine.
CAUTION
Alwaysapplytheparkingbrakeandput
theI-shiftgearselectorpadinNwhenthe
vehicleisparkedorwheneverthedriver
leavesthedriverposition.

acceleratorpedalisreleased,thedriveline

idlingspeed.

Onlyactivewhenthecruisecontrolis
activated.Savesfuelbydeactivatingthe
auxiliarybrakesincertainconditions.
Thisfunctionimprovestheautopilotby
disengagingtheauxiliarybrakes(VEB)
whiledrivingonascents.
•Pull-awaycontrol
Allowstheclutchtobecontrolledatlow
speedsusingthebrakepedal.Allows
theenginetoidlewithoutdepressingthe
clutch.Regulatesenginetorquewhen
pullingawayforoptimumgearchanging

WorkstogetherwithEBSascompensation
forlackofenginebrakingduringgear
changing.Thisfunctionenhancescomfort.

suppliedmaximumacceleration.

Theeasiestwaytodrivethevehicleistouse
theautomaticprogram(Dbutton).Gearswill
shiftautomatically,andthedrivercanfocus
ontheactualdriving.
Whenchanginggear,thesystemwillgovern
theclutch,gearboxandthrottle.Thesystem
selectsthegearandthepointintimeforgear
changingforoptimumdrivingperformance
basedonacceleratorpedalposition,vehicle
weight,roadinclination,vehicleacceleration,
etc.
Inautomaticmodeitisalsopossibletoadjust
thegearsupordown.Thearrowsinthe
displayshowhowmanystepsitispossible
tochangeupordown.
Automaticchoiceofstartinggear
Thegearboxcanalsoselectasuitablepulling
awaygearbasedonvehicleweightandroad
inclination.

Freewheel(I-Roll)
Thefreewheelcanbeactivatedifthelever
fortheauxiliarybrakeisinpositionA
andE+isshowninthedisplay.Whenthe
freewheelisactivated,thesplitgearisset
toN,neutral.Thefreewheelisactivated
differentlydependingonwhetherthecruise
controlisonornot.
1Ifthecruisecontrolisactive:
•Thefreewheelisengagedindownhill
stretcheswhenspeedsexceedtheset
drivingspeed(forexample80km/h).
Thesetpermittedexcessspeedmust
be6km/hormore.(Pleasereferto

auxiliarybrakesformoreinformation
onhowtheauxiliarybrakefunctions
andhowtheexcessspeedcanbeset.)
•Thefreewheelisdisengagedwhen
thespeedexceedsthesetexcessspeed
orbelowthesetdrivingspeed(for
example80km/h).
•TheI-Rollfunctionalsoincludesthe
SmartCruiseControlthatinactivates
theauxiliarybrakesattheendof
downhillslopestofurthersavefuel.
