PRODUCT MANUAL
Handwash Drier
MODELS FMA_22, 24, 25 & 26

Installation & Commissioning
Model FMA.
CONTENTS
Ensure the following items are in the box on unpacking:
1 x FMA Handwash Unit.
1 x Foot control panel, (only with FMA-22 & FMA-24 models).
1 x 1 ltr soap container - 2 x Door keys.
1 x Product manual.
1. SITE PREPARATION
a) Study the installation drawing INSFMA & the following instructions carefully prior to
commencing any work as this will assist you to plan all aspects.
b) Prepare an opening in the wall surface, accurate to the dimensions shown on the installation
drawing INSFMA. It may be preferable to build a stud wall to house the unit as an alternative
method if it is not desirable to carry out extensive alterations to the existing wall. A timber
lining fitted into the aperture will provide greater accuracy in brick/block walls.
c) A small aperture is also required for fitting the foot control panel box for the FMA-22 & FMA-
24 models. An enlarged version of this control panel is also available which acts as a
service access panel. It is advisable to provide an access panel below the main aperture for
access to the water supply & waste connections if access to these from the opposite side of
the wall is not possible.
d) The unit is not designed to provide support above the opening. If this is required then a
suitable lintel should be provided.
e) An electrical supply should be provided with a switched fused spur - 13amp, double pole
connection point that is local to the unit (the contact separation of the fused spur switch
should be at least 3mm). The cable from the switch to the unit should be of minimum
conductor size 1.5mm sq and should be fitted ready for connection to the Handwash unit.
f) A mains cold water supply with a min pressure of 1.75bar should be provided within the
cavity on the left hand side below the aperture and terminated with a suitable isolating tap. It
will not be possible to access the isolating tap through the Handwash unit so a means of
access must be provided or alternatively, position it elsewhere but not too distant from the
unit. Final connection to the Handwash unit water inlet (15mm compression) may be made
with a flexible mains rated hose.
IMPORTANT! The installer should seek further advice from the manufacturer when
considering connection to gravity fed systems. The units are designed and approved for
mains water supply connection.
g) A waste outlet pipe should be provided within the cavity below the aperture by the installer
that is of 1 1/4” size. Final connection to the Handwash shall be to the deep seal waste trap
outlet provided or to the optional decontamination heated waste trap. As with the water
supply connection it is advisable to consider access to the waste pipe in order to simplify the
final connections.

2.APPLIANCE PREPARATION & FITTING
(a) Carefully remove the Handwash unit from its packaging and lay on the floor, flat on its back
or stand vertically against the wall.
(b) Using the keys provided open the top door panel. The door when fully open must be
supported to prevent its weight straining against the side of the unit. Care must also be
taken to prevent damage to the units fascia & stainless steel basin during the installation
work.
(c) Remove the internal black plastic insulation cover by releasing the four screw fasteners, two
top and bottom. Safely retain these and the washers for refitting the cover later. Carefully
ease out the cover from the Handwash unit and also pass the soap tube back through it into
the cabinet. Note that on some models where a soap prime switch is fitted to the cover the
cable to the switch must be unplugged from the unit before the cover can be fully removed.
(d) Remove the lower front fascia panel by releasing the six screws (three each side). Unplug
any wiring to the panel prior to finally lifting it away from the unit. Ensure that it is safely
stored with its screws for refitting later. Close and lock the upper door panel. For units with
foot panel operation ensure that the flexible conduit passing through the base of the unit is
free.
(e) Lift the unit towards the wall aperture and pass its flexible conduit through into the wall cavity
first. Then fully insert the unit itself into the aperture ensuring that the fascia frame is flush
tight against the wall surface.
(f) To finally fix the unit into the aperture, holes may be drilled into the sides of the cabinet in
both the upper and lower compartments. A minimum of four fixing points is recommended
(two each side). If a gap exists between the aperture sides and the cabinet then packing
pieces should be inserted to prevent distorting the sides of the cabinet.
3.ELECTRICAL CONNECTION
WARNING: This Appliance must be Earthed
a) The FMA Handwash unit is designed only for fixed wire type installation.
b) The unit should be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with the current
Nationally Approved Regulations (IEE).
c) Terminate the electrical supply into the terminal block positions “L E N” located on the left
hand side of the cabinet and secure it into the cable clamp.
d) The cable must not come into contact with any other components or wiring within the unit,
so as to prevent electromagnetic interference being passed into it.
e) Earth bonding should be carried out to comply with the Nationally Approved Regulations
(IEE). Connections must be made to the following points:
Water supply pipe, * Sink waste outlet & sterilizer trap if fitted,
Equipotential earth point for cross bonding multiple units together.
4.WATER SUPPLY & WASTE CONNECTION
IMPORTANT! For installations liable to freezing conditions, frost protection and lagging must be
provided.
a) Prior to final connection of the water supply to the unit the pipes must be flushed through so
as to remove any debris and air locks. Failure to carry this out may result in damage &
malfunction of the unit.
b) Complete the water supply connection to the units control tap located below the basin on the
rear left side, taking care that any sealing compounds used are not excessively applied
which may cause a blockage.
c) Final connection between the waste trap supplied with the unit and the main waste pipe can
now be completed with 1¼” size PVC pipe. If the unit is supplied with a decontamination
heated waste trap, then copper pipe of 35mm O/D is required to fit to the outlet joint. PVC
pipes may be coupled to the copper tube if required.

d) Refit the electrical lead & plug to the trap heater element.
5.FOOT CONTROL PANEL OPTION
a) The following instructions apply to models FMA_22 & FMA_24 that have foot control push
button operation.
b) Remove the button panel assembly from its mounting box by releasing the two countersunk
screws one each end on the fascia panel.
c) The control box should be positioned into the aperture so that it is fitted flush with the
finished surface of the wall.
d) Prior to fixing it, pass the flexible conduit from the handwash unit into the entry hole on the
rear face of the box. Secure the box into position through the two fixing holes provided on its
rear face.
e) To fit the button panel to its mounting box first connect the wiring plug to the plug on the
flexible conduit from the handwash unit ensuring that the key on each plug is aligned. Place
the panel then into its box avoiding the wiring becoming trapped or crushed and secure it
with the two countersunk screws.
f) Replace the black plastic insulation cover remembering also to pass the soap tube through
into the soap container storage area, and to reconnect the wiring to the soap prime switch if
applicable. Fasten the cover to the cabinet with the four screws & washers retained
previously.
5.COMMISSIONING FOR USE
a) Open fully the mains water supply tap and the water inlet control valve on the unit. Check
the system carefully for possible leaks.
b) Switch “ON” the main electrical supply to the unit and then also on the unit itself at the
switch located on the left side at the front of the cabinet.
DANGER! Components within the cabinet are now LIVE.
c) Close the door panel and then refer to the USER & MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS,
SECTION 4 for instructions to set the water flow & temperature.
d) Refit the lower front cover to the unit ensuring that any wiring to it is reconnected to the main
loom and secure with the six screws.
e) Refer to the user & maintenance instructions now to section 3 for commissioning of the soap
system.
f) Check the operation of the warm air hand drier to ensure that it operates as outlined in
section 2 of the USER & MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS. Ensure that the dispensed air is
warm.
