unit,sold ring p ncil and cabl s for any signs of damag .If any damag is vid nt,do not
plug it into an AC outl t ,but inst ad contact th plac of purchas to arrang for
corr ction of th damag .

Plug th sold ring station into an AC outl t and turn th T mp ratur Control to slightly
abov th 340 d gr s position .D pr ss th pow r switch on th front pan l of th T 1976
to th “ON”position and allow about 2-3minut s for th sold ring tip to h at to op rating
t mp ratur .

Tip Temperature Control
Th T 1976 provid s a variabl t mp ratur control to cat r for th sold ring of diff r nt
siz and thickn ss sold r joints,and diff r nt sold r alloys.To adjust th
t mp ratur ,simply turn th t mp ratur control knob to th d sir d t mp ratur and wait
about I minut for th tip to s ttl at th n wly s l ct d t mp ratur .
A t mp ratur s tting that is too low for th sold r b ing us d will caus th sold r d
conn ction to h at slowly,and this can caus compon nt damag as th tip will n d to b
appli d for a long r duration.A tip t mp ratur that is too high will raduc tip lif and will
mak it almost impossibl to k p th tip tinn d.Th corr ct t mp ratur will allow th
conn ction to b rais d to sold ring t mp ratur rapidly,allowing th sold r joint to b
compl t d b for n arby parts b com ov rh at d.
Th most common sold r alloy us d in l ctronic work is known as “60/40”sold r as its
main constitu nts ar 60% Tin and 40% L ad.A good starting point for us with this typ
of sold r is 350 d gr ss as it is suffici ntly abov th 60/40 sold r’s m lting t mp ratur
to allow rapid h at conduction to th joint b ing work d on .Som sold r alloys may also
contain a small amount of copp r to incr as th lif of unprot ct d copp r tips,and th s
sold rs will r quir a slightly high r t mp ratur s tting for optimum sold ring r sults.
