Encapsulation/Cable Capping Kit 3817
Instructions
1. Clean all cable surfaces that compound will contact.
Use of 3M™ Service Wire Cleaning Kit 4415 is
recommended.
Fold all connectors back
beyond exposed shield.
Thoroughly scuff

2. If splicing, see Figure 1.
3. Connect shields per system standard procedure. Splice
conductors and fold back connectors as shown.
4. Center splice bundle in cross arm of "T" foam spacer
(Fig. 2).

5. Fold base of spacer over splice bundle. Overlap both
"T" arms over splice bundle. Apply 3M™ Scotchmate™
Hook and Loop Fastener.
6. Below 60°F-warm compound by holding in hands,
etc. Above 60°F-use compound immediately. To mix:
Grasp clear end of the closed mixing bag and squeeze
compound toward center barrier (Fig. 3). Completely
separate barrier and thoroughly mix by squeezing back
and forth 30-40 times to reach uniform color. Strip
compound from corners during this process.

7. Cut off top of bag 3/4" from top. Open carefully with
sliding action and insert splice into bag.
8. Squeeze or fold bottom of bag around splice, removing
air and covering spacer with compound. Wrap vinyl
tape upwards from spacer to cable (Fig. 4).
