Advanced Central Heating System Flushing
User Guide for Open Vented Systems

Important
CAUTION:
MagnaCleanse RapidFlush®filters contain a strong magnet. Keep away from
all electrical devices, bank cards and other magnetic devices.
MagnaCleanse RapidFlush filters contain a strong magnet. Caution should be
taken at all times when handling if you have a pacemaker fitted.
MagnaCleanse RapidFlush filters. Always release pressure before servicing.
MagnaCleanse system will be hot in operation. Handle with care.
A MagnaCleanse RapidFlush filter MUST be used when carrying out a
system flush with a MagnaCleanse.
Installation of MagnaClean®filters and carrying out a system flush using a
MagnaCleanse®should only be undertaken by competent installers. If in any
doubt consult a qualified heating engineer.
Monitor the MagnaCleanse system throughout operation.
Check jubilee clips are secure before and during operation.

Product Overview
MagnaCleanse delivers a fast and effective flushing process for central heating systems.
The process involves ADEY’s proven and award-winning MagnaClean technology.
You will need:
MagnaCleanse system contents, including:
•MagnaCleanse RapidFlush filter
•VibraClean®radiator agitator
•MagnaCleanse adaptor kit
•MagnaCleanse hose-to-valve connector
•Hose lengths (x2)
•Hose clamps (x6)
•Female camlocks (x2)
•Tri-clamps (x2)
•Drain valve
You will also need (not included with the system):
•Flexible hoses with isolators
•Pressure reducing valve and gauge
•MagnaClean domestic filter
To achieve the best protection for the boiler, it is
important that the system flush is carried out with the
MagnaCleanse hose-to-valve connector attached to
the return pipe of the system.
For maximum effect it is recommended that cleaner is
added for a minimum of 1 hour:
MC3+®- Leave for up to 28 days.
MC5+®- Leave for up to 7 days.
The following instructions are designed to assist
engineers in the safe and effective operation of the
MagnaCleanse.
These instructions are for open vented heating
systems. If the system is a combination or sealed
system, please refer to the MagnaCleanse
User Guide for Combination
and Sealed systems.

Identify location for installation of
MagnaClean filter. Prepare pipework
and install filter.
N.B. Refer to MagnaClean installation
instructions.
Turn OFF isolation valves on the
RapidFlush Filter. Loosen and remove
the lid assembly from the RapidFlush
filter canisters.
Removal of black iron oxide and non-
magnetic material and cleanser for open
vented systems.
Identify the three-port valve and
confirm manual operation. If not, install
an isolation valve on the cylinder
flow or return. Complete all relevant
preliminary electrical safety checks to
boiler and pipework confirming safe
isolation and earth path, isolate central
heating system and drain.

Step-by-step
Check jubilee clips are secure
before and during operation.
Having completed the installation
of the MagnaClean filter, remove it
and attach the MagnaCleanse hoses
between the RapidFlush filter and
the MagnaCleanse HTV connector
attached to the isolation valve on the
pipework using the appropriate adaptor.
Ensure drain valve is in the lower hose.
N.B. The flow through MagnaCleanse
RapidFlush filter should enter the
bottom right and exit top left.

Add a suitable cleaner, such as MC5®
to the system via the RapidFlush filter
canisters.
Re-fill and pressurise the central
heating system ensuring the radiators
are half-full. Check for leaks.
Turn OFF hot water circuit, bypass
valves and all the radiators ensuring
they are fully closed. Leave the furthest
radiator open. With the system running,
using ADEY’s VibraClean tool attached
to an SDS drill, set to hammer only
mode with no rotary action and agitate
radiator for 15-20 seconds.

Turn on central heating system. Make
sure all radiator valves are fully open.
The radiators should be hot at the
bottom, cold at the top. Allow system to
reach temperature (over 70°C).

Continue the VibraClean radiator
agitation to dislodge any sludge
deposits until the return hose to the
RapidFlush filter runs clear.
Isolate and clean the RapidFlush filter
as required. Using Personal Protective
Equipment i.e. gloves and paper towels,
wipe off any magnetite into a bucket.
Waste should be bagged and thrown
away. When satisfied, open up the
next radiator, turn off the treated
radiator and repeat the process until all
radiators are clean.

Remember to monitor the
MagnaCleanse system
throughout operation.
Step-by-step
You will need flexible hoses with isolators.
Remember to double check valve, pressure
reducing valve and gauge. Isolate electrics to
the boiler and set the boiler control to OFF.
Attach a drain hose to the MagnaCleanse
drain valve and secure with a jubilee clip. When
cold, temporarily cap off the expansion pipe.
Temporarily connect the cold mains supply and
tank cold feed supply (to bypass header tank)
including a combined stop tap and pressure
gauge to control the water pressure.
Bypass expansion heating tank as shown
opposite (fittings not supplied). This is a
temporary basis for the cold flush of the
flushing process ONLY. The blank vent
pipe is a temporary measure during cold
flush ONLY. Never blank vent pipes for any
other reason. HEATING BOILER MUST
BE OFF and ISOLATED FOR THE COLD
FLUSH. Set pressure reducing valve to
under 1 bar pressure before commencing
cold flush. Caution: Do not over pressurize
existing heating system during cold flush.
Remember to double check valve, pressure
reducing valve and gauge.
Cold main Cold feed

Turn on the cold mains supply and allow
the mains water to flush through the
pipework, partially filled radiator and
return. Allow the water to drain out to a
convenient point outside until clear.

When complete fill and vent the
radiator and allow to circulate for 30
seconds. Repeat this process on each
radiator until complete. Always open
up the next radiator, before turning off
the cleansed radiator. Once all radiators
have been cleansed, open the domestic
hot water port, then close the central
heating port. This flushes the indirect
coil inside the cylinder.

Step-by-step
Turn OFF the HTV isolation valve 2.
Open the heating circuit only (two or
three port valve) leaving the cylinder
flow closed. Check all radiators and
bypass are turned off, leaving the
furthest radiator from the boiler open.

Having completed the previous step,
turn ON the HTV isolation valve 2 on the
return to the boiler and turn OFF the
HTV isolation valve 1 from the system,
close the DHW port and allow the cold
water to flush through the boiler and
RapidFlush filter.

Top up the system allowing the
header tank to fill to the required
level. Once complete, remove drained
MagnaCleanse assembly, disconnect
and reinstall MagnaClean filter to the
isolation valves. If this method is not
appropriate ensure a full drain down is
carried out.
Add a suitable inhibitor, such as
MC1+®, into the canister i.e. use the
pro-fill bleed valve or remove canister
lid assembly and pour into the filter.
Open up the isolation valves and
remove any air by venting using the
filter’s air vent.
Turn on the system and
re-set controls to the customer
requirements. Open any bypass valves
previously closed.

Step-by-step
Once complete, turn OFF the HTV
isolation valve 2 and the cold mains
supply. All the radiators should be
full and valves open. Remove the
header tank and thoroughly clean,
then reconnect. Remove the cap from
the expansion pipe and reconnect
the cold mains supply to the header
tank supply and the cold feed system
supply.

Remember to monitor the MagnaCleanse system throughout operation.
Commission the system following the
manufacturer’s instructions. Before
leaving the property, carry out the
last job – service Magnaclean filter
ensuring a final check is carried out
for leaks.
