2.1. Installation/commissioning by qualified skilled personnel
Only electronic and mechanical skilled personnel are permitted to electrically and
mechanically install and commission DLT-V83 industrial PCs.
Moreover, specialized knowledge about lithium-ion batteries and the applicable safety
regulations is also required for DLT-V83 industrial PCs with integrated UPS (optional).
Only IT skilled personnel with a good knowledge of PCs, operating systems and
wireless networks are permitted to configure the DLT-V83.
These manuals serve as supplement only and are by no means a substitute for the
knowledge and experience of qualified skilled personnel.
If the DLT-V83 is incorrectly installed and configured, any warranty provided by the
DLoG GmbH shall be rendered void.
2.2. User training required
Users of the DLT-V83 industrial PC must be trained by qualified skilled personnel and
instructed about the operation of the device.
Users of DLT-V83 industrial PCs with integrated UPS must also be trained in the proper
handling of lithium-ion batteries.

2.3. Hazards from lithium-ion batteries
DLT-V83 industrial PCs with integrated UPS (optional) are equipped with lithium-ion
batteries in the cable cover of the device. Lithium-ion batteries are chemical stores of
energy which can lead to personal injury or physical damage if they are stored or
handled improperly, for example due to:
−Mechanical damage to the lithium-ion batteries.
−Thermal loading of the lithium-ion batteries.
−Overloading of the lithium-ion batteries.
−Deep-discharge of the lithium-ion batteries.

Handling
The optional UPS cable cover of the DLT-V83 contains lithium-ion batteries.
Handle it carefully.
Observe the specific IP protection class.
Observe the correct installation of the cable cover.
Only use the DLT-V83 within the specified temperature range and permitted
humidity.
Do not subject it to strong impacts and vibrations that exceed what is specified by
the class 5M3 (DIN EN 60721-3-5).
When working on the cable cover with lithium-ion batteries, you must remove
wristwatches, rings or other metal objects.
Use only tools with insulated handles.
Do not damage the cable cover with lithium-ion batteries; do not drill through and
do not crush or drop.

Do not allow cable cover with lithium-ion batteries to come into contact with fire,
operate close to sources of heat or fire, open flame or heaters.
Do not bring into contact with corrosive liquids.
Ensure that no liquid or other foreign objects enter the cable cover with lithium-ion
batteries.
Provide for sufficient ventilation.
2.3.1. Proper storage
Store the cable cover with lithium-ion batteries separately from the DLT-V83.
Store the cable cover with lithium-ion batteries separately from acids and other
materials.
Store the DLT-V83 and accessories in cool and dry conditions and comply with the
specified storage temperature.
Provide for sufficient ventilation of the storage location.
Do not allow water or other liquids to come into contact with the DLT-V83 (use
particular caution with corrosive liquids).
Do not bring into contact with sources of heat or fire, open flame or heaters; do not
bring into contact with fire.
Keep suitable fire extinguishers ready (foam or powder) in accordance with safety
regulations.
Preventing physical damage due to deep discharge
Storing the lithium-ion batteries of the DLT-V83 incorrectly will cause them to
discharge completely (deep discharge) and thus damage them irreparably.
Place the DLT-V83 into operation within 3 months of receiving it and charge the
lithium-ion batteries, which are integrated into the cable cover.
If you are not placing the DLT-V83 into operation within 6 months, make sure you
charge it intermediately.
2.3.2. Charging correctly
Do not connect damaged cable covers with lithium-ion batteries to the DLT-V83; do
not charge.
Lithium-ion batteries become warm while charging; this is normal. However, if they
become excessively hot, disconnect the DLT-V83 immediately from the source of
power.
Do not continue to use the DLT-V83 if you notice unusual heat or smells during
charging.
Provide for sufficient ventilation of the DLT-V83 during charging.

2.3.3. Risks during installation/commissioning
Before connecting and disconnecting the cable cover with lithium-ion batteries, the
DLT-V83 must be currentless.
Before connecting and disconnecting the cable cover: Disconnect the main power
cable from the power supply.
2.3.4. Risks during handling/running operation
Disconnecting the DLT-V83 with integrated UPS from the electric power source
Because of the lithium-ion batteries, the integrated UPS may still carry current
even if the DLT-V83 itself is switched off.
Reason: If the the DLT-V83 has been configured to also start without <Power>
button and ignition in the "DLoG Config" program, this setting will need to be
changed first.
Otherwise, the DLT-V83 will restart after a short pause as long as there is
available battery capacity.
Shut down the DLT-V83 via the operating system function
Disconnect from the power source.
Open the cable cover.
Unplug the UPS battery.
Vehicle EMERGENCY-OFF switch does not switch off the DLT-V83 with
integrated UPS
If a DLT-V83 with integrated UPS is installed in a vehicle, the EMERGENCY-
OFF switch of the vehicle has no effect on the DLT-V83.
This also effects the peripherals supplied by the device.
2.3.5. No repair/replacement of the lithium-ion batteries
If the lithium-ion batteries are faulty, the entire cable cover, including the
integrated batteries, must be replaced.

Installing easily accessible disconnecting device
DLT-V83 industrial PCs are not equipped with disconnecting devices that are
accessible from the outside; they do not have switches. To enable the devices to
be quickly disconnected from the power supply in emergency situations:
Install an easily accessible disconnecting device,
such as a switch or circuit breaker close to the device.
Make sure that the disconnecting device disconnects all power supply lines.
Important:
−For DLT-V83 devices with integrated UPS the device may be in operation
despite the disconnecting device being actuated, since it is supplied with
power by the UPS.
−Likewise, the peripherals that are supplied by the device are also not
currentless as long as the DLT-V83 is being provided with power by the UPS.
Disconnecting the DLT-V83 with integrated UPS (optional) from the electric
power source
DLT-V83 industrial PCs with integrated UPS are equipped with lithium-ion
batteries in the cable cover of the device. The internal UPS may still carry current
even if the DLT-V83 itself is switched off.
Reason: If the the DLT-V83 has been configured to also start without <Power>
button and ignition in the "DLoG Config" program, this setting will need to be
changed first. Otherwise, the DLT-V83 will restart after a short pause as long as
there is available battery capacity.
Shut down the DLT-V83 via the operating system function.
Disconnect from the power source.
Open the cable cover.
Unplug the UPS battery.
Disconnecting the DLT-V83 without UPS from the electric power source
Shut down the DLT-V83 via the operating system function.
Disconnect from the power source.

Vehicle EMERGENCY-OFF switch does not switch off the DLT-V83 with
integrated UPS
Please note: If a DLT-V83 with integrated UPS is installed in a vehicle, the
EMERGENCY-OFF switch of the vehicle has no effect on the DLT-V83.
This also effects the peripherals supplied by the device.
Use only original power supply cables from Advantech-DLoG
Advantech-DLoG power cables meet the specific requirements for low-
temperature flexibility, UV resistance, oil resistance, etc.
Use only original power supply cables from Advantech-DLoG.
If other power supply cables are used: The user/operator of the DLT-V83 is solely
responsible for the resulting damage.
Only connect DLT-V83 devices with DC power supply unit to Safety Extra Low
Voltage (SELV) circuits
DLT-V83 industrial PCs may only be connected to a SELV circuit (Safety Extra
Low Voltage).
Do not connect/disconnect any cables during thunderstorms
Do not connect/disconnect cables of the DLT-V83 during a thunderstorm.
When cleaning the device: Disconnect the DLT-V83 from the power supply
Disconnect the DLT-V83 from the power supply before cleaning it.
Fuse of the power supply units blows repeatedly
If the fuse of the integrated power supply units blows again immediately after
replacement, there is a risk of electrical shock:
Send in the DLT-V83 immediately for repair.
Running cables in accordance with national regulations
When running cables, please follow the appropriate national installation
regulations.
Ensure that the power cable is run so that it is mechanically protected.

Charging the vehicle battery: Disconnecting the DLT-V83 from the battery
While the vehicle battery is charging:
−The DLT-V83 must be disconnected from the vehicle battery.
−Or it must be ensured that the maximum permitted input voltage of the
DLT-V83 is not exceeded.
Do not use DLT-V83 in areas with potentially explosive atmospheres
The operation of electrical equipment at locations where flammable gases or
vapors are present poses a safety hazard.
Turn off the DLT-V83 when you are near gas stations, fuel depots, chemical
plants or places where blasting operations take place.

2.5. Hazards during transport, installation, and commissioning
Only electronic and mechanical skilled personnel are permitted to electrically and
mechanically install and commission DLT-V83 industrial PCs.
Moreover, specialized knowledge about lithium-ion batteries and the applicable safety
regulations is also required for DLT-V83 industrial PCs with integrated UPS (optional).
Risk of injury and physical damage caused by the device falling down
The device may fall down during transportation or installation and cause injury.
Always hold the device by the housing with both hands.
Never use the antenna cap as a handle. It can break due to the weight load.
Ask for help from another person when installing or removing the device.
Danger if mounting bracket breaks
When installing the DLT-V83, make sure that if the bracket breaks (e.g.
because of a stress fracture) no-one will be injured.
Alternatively please put appropriate safety measures in place (e.g. install a
security cable in addition to the mounting bracket).
Deployment location: Note IP protection class and permissible ambient
conditions
Observe the IP protection class/category and permitted environmental conditions
of the DLT-V83.
Before use: Install cable cover
To ensure the IP protection of the DLT-V83:
Before commissioning, install the supplied cable cover for the external
connections, see 7.8 Attaching the cable cover.
Ensure fresh air supply/prevent overheating
Observe the mounting environment. The DLT-V83 uses a passive cooling design
that requires a flow of fresh air. The mounting environment must not result in a
closed system. Without fresh cooling air the DLT-V83 may overheat and may be
damaged beyond repair.

2.6. Observe when connecting/removing external devices
Disconnect the DLT-V83 from the power supply before connecting/removing
peripheral devices (not applicable for USB devices)
Otherwise considerable damage could be caused to both the DLT-V83 and the
peripheral devices.
Make sure that peripherals with their own power supply are either switched
on at the same time as the DLT-V83 or after the start of the DLT-V83.
Otherwise, you must ensure that a backflow from the external device to the
DLT-V83 cannot take place.
Only use authorized accessories
Only use cables, power supply units, and other accessories that have been
tested and approved by Advantech-DLoG for the respective DLT-V83.
Ask your Advantech-DLoG sales representative about authorized
accessories.
