compartments are

• Ensure correct fit of
batteries, observing the
plus and minus marks
on both the battery and
the compartment.
• Replace a full set of
batteries at one time.
• Store unused batteries
in their packaging and
keep away from metal
objects that may cause a
short circuit.
• Remove dead batteries
from equipment.
• Remove batteries from
equipment, if it is not to
be used for a long time.
• Remember to keep
button cell and AAA
batteries away from
children as they can
easily be swallowed.
• Seek medical attention
immediately if batteries
are swallowed.
• Never dispose of
batteries in a fire.
• Never attempt to
recharge ordinary
batteries.
• In the unlikely event
the appliance develops
a fault, stop using
it immediately and
seek advice from the
Customer Support
Team.

USING YOUR APPLIANCE
POWERING ON:
The radio can be powered with batteries
or using the adaptor.
Turn the Power/Volume dial to the ‘ON’
position to turn the radio on.
USING YOUR APPLIANCE:
1. Place the Vintage 4 Band Radio
on a flat level surface, taking care
to leave about 10cm of ventilation
space all around the unit.
2. Connect the unit to the power
supply.
3. Turn the Power/Volume dial to the
right to turn the unit on.
4. Press the FM/MW/SW/LW buttons
to choose your preferred band.
5. Choose your preferred station
using the tuning control dial.
6. Use the Volume dial to adjust the
output volume.
7. Use the Tone dial to adjust the
output pitch.
8. Turn the Power/Volume dial to the
left while the unit is in operation to
turn it off.
BATTERIES:
To install the batteries, open the battery
compartment located at the back of
the unit and place 6 x 1.5V /C batteries,
taking care not to reverse the poles.
Once the batteries have been installed,
close the battery compartment.
POWER ADAPTOR:
To charge the unit using the power
adaptor, insert one end of the adaptor
into the DC jack at the back of the unit,
plug the other end in at the mains and
turn the power outlet on.
CLEANING & MAINTENANCE:
1. Always disconnect the unit from
the power supply before cleaning.
2. Clean the unit with a soft, damp,
lint free cloth.
3. Do not use abrasives or harsh
cleaners.
WARNING:
DO NOT IMMERSE ANY ELECTRICAL
PART OF THE APPLIANCE IN WATER
SUCH AS MOTOR UNITS OR PLUGS.

ELECTRICAL SAFETY
WIRING SAFETY FOR UK USE ONLY
IMPORTANT
As the colours in the
mains lead of this
appliance may not
correspond with the
coloured markings
identifying the
terminals in your plug,
please proceed as follows:
The wires in the mains lead are coloured
in accordance with the following code:
Blue neutral [N] Brown live [L]
Plug Fitting Details (Where Applicable).
The wire coloured blue is the neutral
and must be connected to the terminal
marked [N] or coloured black.
The wire coloured brown is the live wire
and must be connected to the terminal
marked [L] or coloured red.
On no account must either the brown
or the blue wire be connected to the
[EARTH] terminal .
Always ensure that the cord grip is
fastened correctly.
The plug must be fitted with a fuse
of the same rating already fitted and
conforming to BS 1362 and be ASTA
approved.
If in doubt consult a qualified electrician
who will be pleased to do this for you.
Non-Rewireable Mains Plug
If your appliance is supplied with a
non-rewireable plug fitted to the mains
lead and should the fuse need replacing,
you must use an ASTA approved one
(conforming to BS 1362 of the same
rating).
If in doubt, consult a qualified electrician
who will be pleased to do this for you.
If you need to remove the plug –
disconnect it from the mains – and
then cut it off of the mains lead and
immediately dispose of it in a safe
manner. Never attempt to reuse the
plug or insert it into a socket outlet as
there is a danger of an electric shock.
WARNING:
This appliance is double insulated. Do not connect any wire to the earth terminal.

Disposal instructions for AKAI items in
accordance with the Weee directive.
Appliances bearing the symbol
shown here may not be disposed of in
domestic rubbish.
You are required to dispose of the old
electrical and electronic appliances like
this separately, please visit :

recyclenow.co.uk for access to
information about the recycling of
items.
The weee directive, introduced in
august 2006 states that all electrical
items must be recycled rather than
taken to landfill.
