The allnew ALAN777 represents the verylatest and most advanced technology
currentlyavailable on the PMR446 and LPD market.
With its stylish lines and modern design, the ALAN 777 isa realgemof a radio!
The multitudeof features such as VOX (hands free communication) offered on this
radio are only afingertip away thanks to itseasy to use controls.
Creditcardsized, extraslim,light weight and ultracompact design: allmean that
thisradioisidealforuse in any application, nomatter where you are!
The ALAN 777 incorporates all ofthe very latest technical innovations that you might
normallyexpect to see on amobilephonesuch as aLithium-Ion longlife battery, a
blue backlit LCD display and Vibracall (Vibrating callalert).
Despiteits smallsize, the ALAN 777 is bigonfeatures andoffers a real alternativeto
other forms of communication over short to mediumranges and has the added bonus
of being completely free tooperate!
As this radio operateson the PMR446 frequency, you can use it allover Europe.
However we suggest that you refer to the "Restrictions on the use" charts.

Completingthe Radio
Install the Lithium Battery Pack
The radio comes with the LithiumIon Battery separatelypacked.
Before first use, You shouldopen the batterycompartment, insert the battery and
rechargeit for some hours.
Please holdtheunitface down, unscrewthescrewfixing the beltclipand slide the
cover towards thebottomof theradio. Then, insert the batterypackwith the
description textup (contacts showto bottomside). Please observe
the safety precautions for all kindof Lithiumbatteries printed onthe
batteries. Take carethat the battery contacts are never touched
with any metaltoolsand never short circuited. Never place the
battery with the contact side on a metallic surface!
Chargingbattery: Jack CHG [2]
Thereare2ways to charge thebattery. The externalcharger jack CHG [2] is
combined with the MIC Earphonesocket(2.5 mm stereo). Insertthe
chargerpluginto the CHGjack [2]. Itisimportant thatYou use only
the recommended charger and no other charging equipment. Any
not specified power adaptor or wallchargermaybe dangerous and
can cause even fireor explosion risk of thelithiumbattery.
You may also use thedoublestandcharger to recharge the battery. Just insert the
radiointo standcharger and connect oneofthe charging cables of the 230Vwall
adaptorto therear side of the stand charger.
Completelydischargedbatteries needaround 10-14 hoursfor full charging. During
charge the battery icon willblink. After fullcharging the charging current will
automaticallyswitch off. Wedo not recommend to let the radioswitchedon during
charging. Instand chargerreceiving ispossibleparallelto charging,but itwill cause
a longer charging time.
** Coverage (referredtoPMR frequencyband)
The maximumrange is obtained during useinan openspace.
The onlylimitationto maximumpossiblerange areenvironmentalfactors such as
blockage caused by trees, buildings, orotherobstructions. Insideacar or ametallic
constructions, the rangecan bereduced.

LET’SCOMMUNICATE!
To turnradio on/off
Holdthe (MODE) [4]button downfor 3seconds. The radiobeeps3times with
differenttones (beeps may be inhibited).TheLCD [1] displays a“self-test”message
for 1 second, it willthen showthe last channelselected.

Displayillumination
Press one of these buttons (MODE or up/ down) to activatedisplay illumination for
approximately 5 seconds.
Keypadlock
Press and hold the SCAN[3] button forlonger than 3seconds. The key icon is
displayed for 3seconds to confirmthe lock has been activated. PTT buttonwillstill
be active.
Repeat thesame procedure to unlock the keypad.
Volume adjustment
Toadjust the volumelevel,push UP/DOWN[7] buttons untilthe requiredlevelis
obtained.
Channel selection
Press the MODE [4] button once and then the UP [6]/DOWN [7]controlstoselect
one of the 8channels.Toconfirmthe selection, push PTT[7] or waitfor
approximately 5 seconds.

Transmission
For maximumspeech clarity, hold theradio 5to 10cmaway fromyour mouth, keep
the PTT button [8] pressed and speak intotheunit.Duringtransmissionthedisplay
shows TX.
Whenthe PTT [8] isreleased,the radiobeeps to confirmto other users that your
transmissionhas finished (Thisfunction isdisabled by default,to enableitsee
paragraph “Roger Beep”).
Reception
Simply release the PTT [8]button. When youreceive a signal, RX is displayed.

Background noisereduction (Squelch).
In your ALAN 777 the backgroundnoise reductiondevice (squelch) isactivated by
default.
Automatic power save
ALAN 777 issupplied withan automaticcurrenteconomy circuit.If the transceiver
receives nosignalfor7seconds orlonger the “power save function”automatically
activates. This mayincrease the battery lifebyupto50 %.
When the battery pack needs recharging, the battery icon willbe displayed [1]: itis
necessary to connectthe wall charger to the charging jack or to use the stand
chargerin connection with the wallcharger.
OtherkeyFunctions
VOX:hands-free transmission
VOX functionactivation
Press the MODE [4] key three times. The display shows “VOX” blinking at the top left,
whileon the right of the channelnumber, “of” appears. Select one of thetwolevels
by means of UP/DOWN [7]buttons andpush the PTT[8] key, or simplywait5
seconds for confirmation.
Speak intothe microphone [6]oruse one amongst the many compatible
accessories: the transmission is automatically activated.
VOX deactivation
Press the MODE [4] key again. The displayshows“VOX” blinkingat thetop left,
whileon the rightof the channelnumber, the current sensitivity levelwillappear.
Select “off”using the UP/DOWN [2]buttonsand push the PTT [8] key, or simplywait
5 seconds for confirmation.
ROGER BEEP: endtransmissiontone
When PTT [8]is releasedthe radiowill beep to confirmto other users that your
transmissionhas finished. Thisfeature is disabledby default.
To enable it, followthese steps:
1. Press the MODE [4] button 6times untilthe LCD shows(DISEGNO CON
SCRITTA“rboF”).
2. Select “oN” by using theUP”/DOWN buttons [7].
3. Press PTT [8]key or MODE [4] button for confirmation.
4. Roger Beep isnowactivated.
SCAN FUNCTION
The SCAN mode monitors the busy channels.
It isused to check speech trafficon the channelsbefore transmitting and allows the
unitto stopon achannelthat someone istalking on. In case of undesired

conversation, you can skip this channelby pushingthe “ ” / “▼” buttons.
To enable SCAN:
1. Press SCAN [3]key: channelswillstart scanning on thedisplay [1].
2. Press UP or DOWN [7]buttons to skipthe channelswith astrong background
noiseor undesired conversation.
Note:
If the radiodetects during scan mode asignal which has been coded by CTCSS, the
display willdetect this CTCSS code and show the number on the display. If You want
to use thischannelandwant to comeinto contact with that station, You shouldfirst
selectthe displayed CTCSS number for Your own transmission (see next chapter)
Transmission duringthe SCAN function
Pressing PTT [8],the radiowill transmiton thechannel where the scan startedor
on the busy channel.
To deactivate this function, push the SCAN [3]key again.
CTCSS-sub-tone setting
ALAN 777 can receivein two modes:
opentraffic: inthiscase you willhearany communication
transmitted on the selected channel.
groupmode CTCSS: CTCSS tones are access keys thatallowyou to
receive onlymessages coming frompartiesusing
the samechanneland code. The speaker will
remainmuted untilthecorrect CTCSS tone is
received.
To activate1 of 38 different CTCSS tones inRX and TX followthese steps:
• Turn on the radio.
• Select a channelwith the UP/DOWN [7] buttons.
• Press twice the MODE [3] button untilthedisplayshowsthe selectedchannel
with the flashing CTCSS code segment on theright (“of” = default condition).
• Select with the UP/DOWN [7] buttons the desired CTCSS-Code.
• Toconfirmthe setting, press the PTT [8]key or waitfor approximately5
seconds.
To deactivate CTCSS tones
If you want to operate without anyCTCSS code:
• Press twice the MODE [4] key until thedisplayshowsthe desired channel and
the CTCSS tone blinking on the right.
• Select “of” with UP/DOWN [7] buttons.
HI AND LOW POWER
To extend the battery life, you can selectthe lowpower mode.

To activate the low power:
• turn on the unit
• press the MODE [4] button 4times, untilthe display shows “Pr hi”.
• selectthe lowpower by pushing the “ ” o “▼”[7]buttons.
• confirmby pushingthe PTT [8] orsimply wait5 seconds.
With thisprocedure,the power is reducedof 10 times approx.
KEYPAD BEEP
To deactivate thekeypadbeep at the pressure of any key, followthese steps:
• Turn on your ALAN 777.
• press the MODE [4] button 5times, untilthe display shows “bP on”.
• Push “ ” o “▼”[7]until“bP of”appears on the display.
• confirmby pushingthe PTT [8] orsimply wait5 seconds.
With thisprocedure,you won’t hearany beep at the pressure of anybutton.
CALL TONE
ALAN 777 cansend3differentcalltones. Tosendthisaudiosignalto otherusers,
press rapidly the PTT[8] key twice.
To select the calltones:
• turn on the transceiver
• push MODE [4] 7 times, untilthe display shows “CA 1”.
• push “ ” or “▼”[7]: youwillhear the 3 pre-setmelodies.
• confirmby pushingthe PTT [8] key or wait 5 seconds.
Now,each timeyour ALAN 777will sendout a tone call, itwill beep withthe selected
melody. To disablethis feature, set “of” on thedisplay.
VibraCall
ALAN 777 isequipped withthe function “VibraCall”,which provides asilentalert for
incoming tone calls.
To activateit, followthese steps:
1. turn on the unit.
2. press the MODE [4 key 8 times, untilthe display shows the VibraCallIcon
3. pushing “ ”or “▼”: you willenable/disable this feature.
4. confirmby pushingthe PTT [8] key or wait 5 seconds.
Note: AVibraCallAlarmcan onlybe receivedby anotherALAN 777, and not by any
other radiomodel.Also incase that the distantparty should have selected one of the
3melodiesforcalling, suchalarmswillbedetected as Vibra Call,ifYou should have
selected Vibra CallinYour receiving radio.

DUALWATCH:
The radio allows You to listen ontwo channels, which may have priority for You.
Please select first Your priority channel.
• turn on the unit.
• press the MODE [4 key 9 times, untilthe display shows “RX TX”
• pushing “ ”or “▼”: you willenable/disablethisfeature or select oneof the
channels as priority channel.
• confirmby pushingPTT
NowYou can select any other channelas Your second channel.
Your radiowill always switch automaticallybetween the selectedprioritychannel and
the otherchannel,which Youhave just selected. If asignalonthe prioritychannel
willbe detected, You willhearthis,and laterYou willbe ableto listen againto the
other channel.
