** Coverage
The maximum range is obtained during use in an open space. The only limitation to maximum possible range are
environmental factors such as blockage caused by trees, buildings, or other obstructions. Inside a car or a metal-
lic constructions, the range can be reduced.
And now, let’s communicate!!
1 Turning on
Rotate the ON/OFFVOLUME [1] knob clockwise to turn the unit on. The radio beeps 4 successive times with dif-
ferent tones (may be inhibited). The LCD [3] displays a “self-test” message for 1 second, it will then indicate chan-
nel 1.
2 Volume adjustment
To adjust the volume level, hold “MON” [10] button down while rotating the ON-OFF/VOLUME [1] knob until you
reach a comfortable listening level. Rotate it clockwise to increase and anti-clockwise to decrease the volume.
Release the “MON” [10] button. Now your Alan 441 is ready to receive and transmit.
3 Channel selection
Select the desired channel and relevant frequency by the UP/DOWN [6] controls.
CHANNEL FREQUENCY (MHz) CHANNEL FREQUENCY (MHz)
01 446.00625 05 446.05625

and speak into the unit.
During transmission the display shows . When the Roger beep function is enabled, the radio beeps to con-
firm to other users that your transmission has finished (see paragraph 15 “Roger Beep” to enable the function).

down to deactivate it. In this way, even low level signals can be received.
7 Automatic power save
ALAN 441 is supplied with an automatic current economy circuit. If the transceiver receives no signal for 7 se-
L1
conds or longer the “power save function” automatically activates. (“SAVE” blinks on the display). The battery
life may increase by up to 50 %.
When the batteries are in need of charging, icon will be displayed [3]: it is necessary to replace the alkaline
batteries or recharge the Ni-Cd/NiMH ones.
8 Jack MIC/CHG
External charger jack [13]. We recommend use of the appropriate charger only.
Attention: alkaline batteries cannot be recharged.
9 Keypad lock
Hold [7] button down for longer than 3 seconds: the display will show to confirm activation. PTT [11],
MON [10] and [9] will still be active. Repeat the same procedure to unlock the keypad.
10 Hands-free transmission mode (VOX) / Baby-sitter
ALAN 441 has built-in VOX capability (automatic transmission) settable in 3 positions.
This feature is particularly useful to keep a check of the baby at a distance as you can automatically listen to all
sounds or noises close to the transmitter (Baby-sitter).

• L2: medium sensitivity (for slightly noisier areas);
• L3: low sensitivity (useful in very noisy areas or if you talk loudly).

13 VOX delay adjustment
This option keeps the radio in transmit mode after you stop talking. This delay can be adjusted (if it is set too short

Use again the / [6] keys to select the desired delay:
• d1: short delay • d2: medium delay • d3: long delay
