If repair is required, contact the sales representative, branch office, or agent at the
telephone number and address given in this document or in the equipment opera-
tion manual.
Although not recommended by Anritsu Corporation, if it is really imperative to
open the covers for emergency repair, take great care not to touch any dangerous
parts. Always request repair by a trained engineer who understands the hazards.
Anritsu Corporation will not accept liability for any injuries sustained as a result of
opening the equipment covers.
Part Names & Part Numbers
Please specify the part numbers shown in the parts list when making
inquiries or when ordering parts. There may be a difference between
the names of parts used in this manual and the parts actually used in
the equipment or supplied for repair. This is because equivalent
parts with the same functions, performance and reliability as the
parts specified in the circuit diagrams and parts list have been used
or supplied. Since the parts are equivalent, they have absolutely no
adverse effect on the equipment specified functions, performance or

WARNING
Class 1 Safe laser presenting no danger when used according to
design specifications.
Class 2 Laser radiating in 400 to 700 nm wavelength range. In
principal, this class of laser is not safe, but the danger to
the eyes is eliminated by the eye avoidance reaction in-
cluding the blink response.
Class 3A Laser radiating in 400 to 700 nm wavelength range. The
danger to the eyes is eliminated by the eye avoidance
reaction including the blink response. For lasers radiat-
ing at other wavelengths, the degree of danger to the na-
ked eyes is not greater than Class 1.
Class 3B The eyes will be damaged if direct laser radiation enters
the eyes. Normally there is no danger if the diffused
beam is observed.
CAUTION
Use of Controls or adjustments or performance of procedures other
than those specified herein may result in hazardous radiation expo-
sure.

Power Line Fuse Protection
For safety, Anritsu products have either one or two fuses in the AC
power lines as requested by the customer when ordering.
Single fuse: A fuse is inserted in one of the AC power
lines.
Double fuse: A fuse is inserted in each of the AC power
lines.

About This Manual
This manual is written for service personnel trained by Anritsu Ser-
vice Training Course and explains how to service the Anritsu
MT9 10B Optical Test Set, and how to troubleshoot faults. It also
explains repair by exchanging modules but does not describe parts-
level repair of modules.
Refer to the operation manual (M-W1 6AE) for a description of the
operation methods, how to test the performance and for the periodic
calibration procedures.

1.1 Introduction
This service manual describes the repair of the MT9810B Optical Test Set OTS) and plug-in units.
Section 2 describes how to disassemble and reassemble OTS, and the internal configuration.
Section 3 describes how to troubleshoot and repair when a problem occurs during measurements or
when abnormalities are detected during performance checks.
Refer to the separate Operation Manual for details on operating procedures.
1.2 Safety Precautions
WARNING
1. Never look directly into the laser radiation emitted from the OPTI-
CAL OUTPUT connector or the far-end of the connected fiber.
2. Do not disassemble the plug-in unit.
If you find problems with the plug-in unit, exchange it for the new
plug-in unit.
3. The MA9331A and MU931431A can measure the laser light con-
forming to IEC60825-1 Class 4 and 21CFR1040.10 (FDA) Class IV
specifications of laser safety standard.
When handling a high-power light source, make sure that the use
environmental conditions satisfies the above safety standard.
The output energy for the Light Source units conform to IEC 60825-1 Class 3A specifications and
21CFR1040.10 FDA) Class III b specifications.
These products have the following items for the laser safety:
1) Remote Interlock Connector,
2) key control, and
3) protective cover of the OPTICAL OUTPUT connector.
WARNING
Don't attach or remove the plug-in unit while POWER is ON.

2.1 Introduction
This section describes the mechanical structure, the position of the internal units, and the procedure
for removing these units to disassemble and reassemble the MT9810 .
CAUTION
Do not disassemble the plug-in unit.
If the unit is broken, exchange it for new unit.
2.2 Precautions
CAUTION
Failure to follow this safety procedure may cause fire and electrical
shock hazards that could result in personal injury.
Always follow the procedure steps below before disassembly and reassembly.
