For professionals on the move in challenging or isolated environments, the
possibility of threat, violence or work-related accidents is a fact of life. To
support and safeguard them in their duty and, equally, to ensure that your
security coverage and operational efficiency remains intact at all times,
Ascom offers the 9d Location Device (9dLD).
Increased personal safety
The 9dLD transmits a signal that is picked up by the 9d handset. The
co- ordinates of the nearest base station and the four latest location codes
are automatically transmitted to the monitor via the handset. Instantly
processed by the alarm management system, this allows the staff at base
to accurately establish both direction and location of their colleague in the
case of a personal attack, a fire alarm or an operational disturbance. An
increased security for the employees provides the opportunity for them to
focus on their main duties, thus leading to greater operational efficiency.
Location and call set-up
The 9dLD also enables other Location Based Services (LBS) such as finding
and sending messages to the nearest person, access control, automatic
reconfiguration of systems and handsets for certain locations etc.
This can also be combined with other Ascom unique functions such as
automatically setting up a conference call with selected users or users that
are close to the scene of the accident. For flexibility, the conference can use
any combination of traditional telephony, loudspeaker or Push-To-Talk
(PTT). Another example is to let the system automatically change the set-
tings in the handset for any given location or area.
As an integral part of the Ascom 9d system, the
9dLD allows stationary staff or crash teams to
easily keep track of their mobile colleagues. In the
event of an alarm, any colleague or team-mate in
distress can be quickly found and the crisis can be
resolved rapidly and efficiently.
A problem at a production line can also be
dealt with faster than before by sending an
alarm to the person nearest to the line. To be at
the right place at the right time is a key factor to
improve efficiency in a busy work environment.

Flexible set up
Whether fixed to monitor a room, a corridor, a stairwell or an entire building,
the 9d Location Device is highly precise. Both the cell size and the setup of
the location transmitter are customised to suit the specific needs of the
customer, depending on the risk level and the layout of the premises.
Furthermore, the 9dLD is designed to interact with previously installed
Ascom telePROTECT systems and to coexist with other cordless alarm sys-
tems with minimum risk of interference.
A system to grow with
Offering the highest accuracy and reliability, the 9dLD locator is built on
pure DECT. Previously installed Ascom 9d systems can be upgraded with
location, with no cabling required. This means that if the security require-
ments of your operations change, the 9dLD range and set-up can be ad-
justed to satisfy the new conditions with minimal effort. To make alterations
as simple, trouble-free and inexpensive as possible, upgrading is primarily
software-oriented.

To further increase the reliability of the system and to decrease main-
tenance costs, the locators can be placed inside and behind walls, in ceilings
etc to prevent sabotage. They can also be tamper protected to indicate
external damage.

The Ascom 9d system offers flexible location precision that reaches from large zones with base
station location down to corridors or even rooms using the 9dLD. All depending on the specific
needs of the customer.
Position and direction
Easy determination of both position and direction of a person, thanks to the transmission of current
and previous location codes together with the current base station. A time stamp is also added to
each location code.

Tamper protection and surveillance reliability
Should the output power fail, or the locator be tampered with, the monitor will immediately
be activated and call attention to the problem. For high security systems where surveillance
is demanded, a monitoring cable is necessary.
