Hardware setup
Install the hard disk drive
1. Install the hard disk drive on the HDD bracket (

), and then secure
it with four screws (

• The hard disk drive is purchased separately.
• If you install a new hard disk drive on your HD media player, a warning screen
will appear,reminding you to format the hard disk drive.Follow the onscreen
instructions to complete the format process.Any abnormal shutdown leads to
longer startup time and longer disk check on the next boot up.The checking
process may take several minutes depending on the hard disk drive capacity.
• If you want to delete all data on your used hard disk drive,go to Setup >
System,and then click HDD Format.
• ASUS will not be held liable for any damage/malfunction caused by improper
installation of the hard disk drive.
• ASUS will not be held liable for data loss or recovery.
If you want to rescan your hard disk drive,complete one of the following steps:
Go to Setup > System > Scan Storage > Auto Scan, and then click on.
Go to Setup > System > Scan Storage action, and then click rescan storage.
• Back up the important files or folders periodically to avoid any potential data
loss due to disk crash.
• Be cautious of the hot temperature while using the hard disk drive for a long
time.
To install the hard disk drive:

Network setup
Using DHCP IP (network setup with a router)
Using DHCP IP allows the router to automatically assign an IP address for
your media player.
To connect to your network:
1. Connect one end of the RJ-45
cable to the LAN port at the
back of your HD media player
and the other end to the LAN
port of the router.
2. Connect your computer and
other necessary devices to your
router.
Refer to the documentation that
came with your router.

server IP address for your media player.
• If you select DNS (Manual), key in the DNS Server IP address.

8. On the confirmation message, select Yes to save the setting.
• If you cannot connect to your office network,contact your network
administratior.
• If you want to access shared network files, ensure that the computer’s files
are shared on the network.For more details,refer to the section Sharing
media files over the network in Chapter 2 of the user manual.
Using FIX IP (network setup with a direct connection
to a computer)
Using FIX IP allows your media player to connect to a computer directly.

at the back of your HD media
player and the other end to
the computer.
2. Connect all the necessary
devices to your HD media

6. From the FIX IP screen, key in
the IP Address and Subnet Mask.
• Use the up/down keys / to increase/decrease a numerical value.
• Use the left/right keys / to move to other items on the System menu.
• You may use the default settings of the IP Address and Subnet Mask:
• IP Address: 192.168.0.2
• Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
• You may also obtain the IP address and subnet mask from your Internet
Service Provider (ISP).
7. On the confirmation message, select Yes to save the setting.
8. On your computer, you should key in the same subnet mask as the
one on the HD media player.
Ensure that the IP addresss of your computer is not used by another
device.For the network setup on your computer, refer to the user manual
in the support CD.

On-line Media
The On-line Media feature provides tons of online content with just a
few clicks by the Opera Browser and online media services, including
Internet Radio, Weather, and Stock.
The online content is constantly added and updated.Visit the ASUS
website for the latest information.
Ensure that your O!Play HD2 is connected to the internet. However,the
network connection might be disabled if the internet link is abnormal or
blocked.
To use the online media services on your O!Play HD2:
1. From the Home screen,press the left/right keys / to navigate to
On-line Media, then press .
You may also press to enter the On-line Media mode.
2. Use the up/down keys / to select the category of the online
media services that you want to use,then press .
3. Navigate to the desired online media service,then press to enter.
• You may add the favorite online media service to Favorite in the Internet
Radio, Weather, and Stock.Navigate to the online media service that you
want to add as your favovite.Press the left key , select Add to My Favorite,
and then press .
• While browsing the website, you may use an additonal mouse to enjoy the
bowser service. Refer to the mouse support list on the gift box.
• After entering the Opera Browser, you may press to go back to the
previous page, to go to the next page,and to open the software
keyboard.
• You may search an online media service by entering a keyword in the
Internet Radio. Locate the Search option, press , and then type the
keyword of the online media service that you want to search.

NAS
NAS ( Network-attached storage) is a device connected to a network
that only provides file-based data storage services to other devices on
the network.The NAS function allows all networked servers to share
their storage files with networked clients.
• You must have the hard disk drive installed on your O!Play HD2 for using the
NAS function.
• Ensure that your O!Play HD2 is correctly connected to the network. Refer to
Chapter 2 of the user manual for more details on connecting to a network.
The video/audio/photo playback function is disabled when using NAS.
To use the NAS function on your O!Play HD2:
1. From the Home screen,press the left/right keys / to navigate to
NAS, then press .
You may also press to enter the NAS mode.
2. Use the up/down keys / to select the server that you want to
use,then press the right key or .
3. Select On and press to enable the NAS function on your O!Play
HD2.
4. Open the web browser of your
computer that is correctly
connected to a NAS network.
5. Enter the same IP address
that is set up on your O!Play
HD2.

6. Enter the necessary setting for the server you selected, then press
Apply to start using NAS function.
To obtain the IP address of your
O!Play HD2,press to launch

Server Description
SAMBA Server
Samba allows file and print sharing between computers
running Windows and computers running Unix.O!Play HD2
can act as a SAMBA client, allowing you to stream media from
your PC directly to play Full HD media fast and efficiently with
no slow down.
FTP Server
File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a standard network protocol used
to copy a file from one host to another over a TCP/IP-based
network, such as the Internet.FTP is used with user-based
password authentication or with anonymous user access.You
can access the device from any PC and copy files to and from it.
iTune Server
O!Play HD2 can work as an iTunes server to share music and
videos within a local network.You can save the mp3 files on
O!Play HD2 NAS instead of different computers at home,and
then play the files on O!Play HD2 NAS by iTunes player by any
computer in streaming way.
BT Download
BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer file sharing protocol used for
distributing large amounts of data.It allows users to distribute
large amounts of data without the heavy demands on their
computers that would be needed for standard Internet hosting.
The protocol works as an alternative data distribution method
that makes even small computers with low bandwidth capable
of participating in large data transfers.
BT Info This displays the detailed information about all BT functions.

Using iPhone to control your
O!Play HD2
You may use iPhone to control your O!Play HD2 via the internet link.
• Ensure that your O!Play HD2 is correctly connected to the network. Refer to
Chapter 2 for more details on connecting to a network.
• Ensure that the router connected to your O!Play HD2 suppots the WiFi
function.
To use iPhone to control your O!Play HD2:
1. Turn on the WiFi function on your iPhone, and connect it to your
O!Play HD2.
2. Click Safari on your iPhone, then enter the same IP address that is
set up on your O!Play HD2.
To obtain the IP address of your O!Play HD2, press to launch the
Setup menu. Select System > Network Info, then press .
3. The below screen appears on your iPhone.Now you can use iPhone
to control your O!Play HD2.

Using O!Direct
O!Direct allows you to stream media les such as movies, music, or photos from a
computer to a high-denition external display in a wired or wireless network.
• Ensure that your computer and your HD media player are on the same subnet mask.
• Ensure that your wired or wireless network connection is working properly.
• Ensure that the rewall and any anti-virus software/utility are disabled on your computer.
• For more details on setting up a wired connection, refer to the user manual included
in the support CD.
Installing O!Direct
To install O!Direct
1. Place the bundled support CD in your computer’s optical disk drive.
2. Double-click the setup.exe le from the O!Direct folder.
3. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
• If your HD media player’s current rmware version does not include O!Direct,
download the O!Direct utility from the ASUS Support site at http://support.asus. com.
• O!Direct can only run in Windows® OS.
• You need to reboot your computer after uninstalling or updating O!Direct.
• You can uninstall O!Direct from Windows Control Panel.
Streaming media les via O!Direct
1. Right-click the media les, and then click O!Direct on your computer.
2. In the dialogue box that appears on your computer, key in the PIN number
in the Pin code eld, and then click OK. HD media player generates the pin
number and displays it on your high-denition external display.
• To play multiple les, press <Ctrl>/<Shift> + mouse left-click. This command
classies your les and then plays them in sequence of movies, music and photo.
• when you connect to a network via a wireless connection, lag or jitters may occur
when streaming high-denition video les. It is due to wireless signal interference or
insucient bandwidth in some home-based wireless routers. We recommend that
you use wired connection (LAN/RJ-45 cable) for streaming high-denition video les.

Troubleshooting
Q1. I cannot see the Setup Wizard when I turn on the player for the
first time.The TV screen is blank and the media player power
LED is on.
• Ensure that the TV is turned on.
• Ensure that the AV/HDMI cable is properly connected to the correct
terminals on both the TV and the media player.
• Ensure that your TV is switched to the appropriate video source (AV IN
or HDMI).You may need to use your TV Remote control to change video
sources.
• Turn off your media player and wait for a few minutes before turning it on
again or press the reset button at the back panel.
• Ensure that the HDMI resolution of your TV supports 720p,1080i, or 1080p.
Q2. I cannot hear any sound when I am playing music files.
• Ensure that the audio cables are properly connected.
• If the audio cables are connected to your TV, the TV must be turned on to
play any music files.
• If the audio cables are connected to your stereo, ensure that the stereo is
on and you have the correct stereo input selected. If you are having trouble
selecting the correct audio source,refer to the instructions that came with
your stereo.
Q3. How do I get the subtitle to play?
You have to put the subtitle file in the same folder of the movie file.Ensure that
the subtitle name is the same with the movie file (ex.movie.avi,movie.srt).
Q4.The Media Player does not recognize my USB storage device.
Your USB storage device may not be detected because of problems with the
USB hardware driver,USB cable,or longer system response time.Try to re-plug
the USB storage device to the USB port again, replace a new USB cable,or use
another USB storage device.
Q5.What version of firmware do I have? How do I upgrade it?
• Check the firmware version before the upgrade process.If the firmware is
the latest version,you will not need to update the firmware.

• Go to Setup > Firmware Setup to perform the firmware upgrade process.
• If you are still unable to update the firmware, reset the system and perform
the updating process again.
• The firmware update manual is available in PDF file (included in the
updated firmware folder).Visit the ASUS support site at
http://support.asus.com/ for more details.
• If the O!Play HD2 device is shut down or powered off during the software
installation, the update will fail.If the O!Play HD2 will not power on,you
will need to reset the device.This will restore the device back to its default
settings.The firmware update can be attempted again at this point.
Q6. I cannot connect to the wired network.
You need to select either DHCP IP (AUTO) or FIX IP (MANUAL) as your setup
type.If you select DHCP IP (AUTO), key in the DNS server’s IP address.The DNS
server automatically assigns an IP address for your media player.
If you select FIX IP (MANUAL), key in the IP address and Subnet Mask.
Q7. Can I use NAS function when browsing movie,music,photo or
Internet Media Service?
No.You have to turn off NAS function when you are enjoying media.We
suggest that you use NAS function when you are not browsing any media.
Q8. Can I access other online media websites?
No.You can only access the online media services offered on your ASUS
O!Play HD2 Media Player. Please note that the content is constantly added and
updated.Visit the ASUS website for the latest information.
