Terminology
Throughout the manual, the terms Local and Remote are used in regard to the
operators and equipment deployed in a KVM over IP switch installation.
Depending on the point of view, users and servers can be considered Local
under some circumstances, and Remote under others:
Switch’s Point of View
emote users — Someone who logs into the switch over the net from a
location that is remote from the switch.
Local Console — The keyboard, mouse and monitor connected
directly to the switch.
User’s Point of View
Local client users — Someone who’s performing operations on the
servers connected to the switch that are remote from him.
emote servers — Servers that are remote from the local client user.
Monospaced Indicates text that you should key in.

they become available, and using the utility to conveniently upgrade your
device.
Setup is fast and easy: plugging cables into their appropriate ports is all that is
entailed. Because the CL5708I / CL5716I intercepts keyboard input directly,
there is no software configuration required, with no need to get involved in
complex installation routines. Access to any computer connected to the
installation is easily accomplished either by entering hotkey combinations
from the keyboard, front panel pushbuttons, or via its powerful, keyboard &
mouse-driven OSD (on-screen display). A convenient Auto Scan feature also
permits automated port switching at set intervals for easy monitoring of all
activities from the managed computers.
There is no better way to save time and money than with a CL5708I / CL5716I
installation. By using the CL5708I / CL5716I’s sliding LCD console to
manage your installation, users can not only eliminate the expense of having to
purchase a separate keyboard, monitor, and mouse for each computer, while
saving all the space and energy costs those extra components would otherwise
use up, save the space that a keyboard, monitor, and mouse would take with a
standard KVM switch, but also eliminate the inconvenience and wasted effort
involved in constantly moving the required consoles from one computer to
another.
