Overview
System Description
The MicroTorque M screw fastening systems are servo driven microproces-
sor-controlled precision tools, based on cutting edge technology. Each tool con-
tains a servo motor, planetary gear, incremental encoder. The highly integrated
control unit MicroTorque was designed for servo control, angle measurement,
I/O-management via serial and PLC interface, and user dialog control as well as
parameter settings.
The most significant features of these assembly tools are:
• Simultaneous screw tightening and torque control.
• Freely programmable screw fastening parameters.
• Precise tightening torque, torque monitoring and measurement data docu-
mentation.
• Continuous data output for graphical display of torque vs. angle and torque
vs. time.
• No clutch for torque setting, therefore no mechanical adjustments.
• Facility for customer-specific assembly programs.
These features make the spindle particularly suitable for highly demanding as-
sembly work and guarantee exactly controlled tightening torque even under dif-
ficult conditions.
The standard screw fastening procedure passes the following steps:
•Search step (before touching the thread)
•Step 1 with angle limitation and torque window
•Step 2 with torque control and angle window
The 3 steps allow completely independent settings of rpm. Search step normally
runs at low rpm to find the thread easily. Step 1 can be run at high rpm for high
productivity and short cycle time. At Step 2 rpm is reduced to avoid exceeded
torque.

Installation
Chose a safe place for the installation of the system.
Install the system according to the following instructions.
Installation
1. A safe place should be chosen for the installation of system.
2. The tool driver must be connected to the controller with the tool cable.
3. The controller must be connected to the power supply and the power supply
to the mains (230V/50Hz or 115V/60Hz).
4. The system will initialise. All basic hardware functions are checked and dis-
played during initialisation. Also the tool serial number is displayed.
5. After initialisation passed correctly, the system is ready for use.

Maintenance
Preventing ESD problems
The components inside the tool and controller are sensitive to electrostatic dis-
charge. To avoid future malfunction, make sure that service and maintenance is
carried out in an ESD approved work environment. The figure below shows an
example of an appropriate service work station.
Maintenance
There are certain general maintenance procedures you should perform to keep
your MicroTorque system clean and operating at its efficiency.

The system is a sophisticated instrument with many sensitive components.
A built-in service reminder can be configured in Tools Talk MT. When it is
time to perform service on the tool, a reminder is shown on the controller dis-
play.
Preventive Maintenance:
• The system should never be exposed to harsh environment with rapid tem-
perature changes or excessive dust.
• Never expose the system to excessive vibration or high humidity.
• Prevent overheating by use only in the permitted temperature range. Do not
cover tool or controller or power supply.
• Cleaning of the tool and controller should be done regularly, but not with
aggressive cleanser.
• Check wear of the bit regularly.
• Replace worn cables immediately.
Tools which have been opened by anyone else than Atlas Copco Industrial
Technique AB, will not be serviced.
Calibration and preventive maintenance is recommended at regular intervals
once per year or after maximum 1.000.000 tightenings depending on which oc-
curs sooner.
More frequent overhaul may be needed if the machine is used in heavy-duty op-
erations.
If the machine is not working properly, it should immediately be taken away for
inspection.

Service instructions
The information in this chapter is intended to show the main steps to be taken
when servicing the tool. For detailed information on the included parts, see the
exploded views/tables.
General information
Recommended interval between actions:
(Valid at normal usage of the tool at a load up to 70% of maximum torque.)
• Exchange front part after approximately 1.000.000 cycles.
• Exchange drive unit after approximately 5.000.000 cycles.
• Calibrate the tool after 1.000.000 cycles or after 1 year.
Service conditions:
• The complete system needs to be available when a repair or calibration is to
be done.
Service equipment:
• Normal workshop equipment.
• Necessary special equipment as shown in the exploded views/tables.
• For testing a calibration rig is recommended.
• PC with internet connection to be able to download necessary keys.

Changing front part

Disassembling
NOTICE The parts are mounted together using locking fluid. Depending on the
hardness of the locking fluid it is necessary to use different methods of disman-
tling it.
1. 1. Hold the tool steady by hand and put the service tool on the front part.
2. Unscrew the front part by turning the service tool counter-clockwise.
Attach a wrench to the service tool if needed.
2. If the front part does not come off using the method above:
1. Use a sharp thin knife to slit between the front part and rubber handle
in order to remove the locking fluid.
2. Try to loosen the front as described above.
3. If the front part does not come off using the method above:
1. Gently apply heat to the front part.
NOTICE! Be careful not to affect the rubber handle.
2. Hold the service tool with a vice and attach it to the front part.
3. Turn the tool counter-clockwise by hand.
Assembling
1. Clean the threads of the handle.
2. Apply a small amount of locking fluid to the threads of the new front part.
3. Attach the front part to the tool.
NOTICE Be careful when you connect the front part to the gear pin.
4. Hold the tool in your hand, attach the service tool and a torque wrench.
Tighten the front part to 8 Nm.
5. Let the glue harden.

Aligning
Start lever
Required tools:
• Assembly tool 4080 1374 82
• Trigger tester 40801381 80
• Allen key 0.9 mm
• Locking fluid WEICON LOCK AN 302-77
Adjusting the start lever
1. Put the spindle on the work bench, supported by the assembly tool.
2. Connect the spindle to the trigger tester.
3. Connect the trigger tester to mains supply.
4. Loosen the set screw using an allen key, and tigthen it again until switch-
ing just occures.
5. Secure the screw with locking fluid.

Overview
Description du système
Les systèmes d'assemblage à vis MicroTorque M sont des outils de précision à
transducteur et servo-moteur qui sont commandés par des microprocesseurs et
basés sur une technologie de pointe. Chaque outil est doté d'un servo-moteur,
d'un engrenage planétaire et d'un encodeur incrémentiel. L'unité de commande
MicroTorque est une unité hautement intégrée, conçue pour la servocom-
mande, les mesures de l'angle, la gestion des E/S via une interface série ou API,
un contrôle de l'utilisateur au moyen de boîtes de dialogue et le réglages des pa-
ramètres.
Les fonctions les plus importantes de ces outils d'assemblage sont :
• Serrage des vis et contrôle du couple simultanés.
• Paramètres de fixation des vis facilement programmable.
• Couple de serrage précis, surveillance du couple et documentation des don-
nées concernant le serrage.
• Émission des données en continu pour l'affichage graphique du couple en fct
de l'angle et du couple en fct du temps.
• Aucun embrayage pour le réglage du couple et donc aucun réglage méca-
nique à faire.
• Fonction spéciale pour les programmes d'assemblages personnalisés.
Ces caractéristiques rendent la broche particulièrement adaptée aux travaux
d'assemblage très exigeants et garantissent un couple de serrage contrôlé avec
exactitude même dans des conditions difficiles.
La procédure de fixation des vis standard se déroule selon les étapes sui-
vantes :
•Étape de recherche (avant de toucher le filetage)
•Étape 1 avec limitation de l'angle et fenêtre du couple
•Étape 2 avec contrôle du couple et fenêtre de l'angle
Ces 3 étapes autorisent des réglages totalement indépendants de la vitesse de ro-
tation (tr/mn). L'étape de recherche se déroule à une vitesse peu élevée pour
trouver facilement le filetage. La vitesse à l'étape 1 est élevée pour une
meilleure productivité et un temps de cycle plus court. À l'étape 2, le nombre de
tours par minute est réduit pour éviter un dépassement du couple.

Installation
Installation
Il faut , tout d'abord, choisir un endroit sûr pour installer le système. Ceci fait, le
coffret de commande de l'outil doit être connecté au contrôleur au moyen du
câble d'outil. Le contrôleur doit être ensuite branché sur l'alimentation élec-
trique et celle-ci branchée à son tour sur le secteur (230V/50Hz ou 150V/60Hz).
Le système s'initialise alors. Toutes les fonctions de base de l'appareil sont véri-
fiées et s'affichent durant l'initialisation. Le numéro de série de l'outil s'affiche
également. Une fois l'initialisation correctement effectuée, le système est prêt à
l’emploi.

Entretien
Prévention des problèmes de DES
Les composants que contiennent l’outil et le contrôleur sont sensibles aux dé-
charges électrostatiques. Pour éviter tout mauvais fonctionnement futur, assu-
rez-vous que les opérations d’entretien et de maintenance se déroulent dans un
environnement de travail homologué DES. L’illustration ci-dessous présente un
exemple de poste de travail acceptable pour l’entretien.
