6.0 CONNECTING THE HARDWARE
Please study the panel drawings below and become familiar with the signal input,
outputs, power requirements plus any controls present.
Connect the AC to +5VDC adapter to an AC source and then to the DC power
input shown on the right side of the lower drawing above. (Note that there is no
power switch. The unit will begin to function as soon as you have the AC to
+5VDC adapter plugged in and furnishing power).
Next connect an input cable and an output cable to either the Composite Video
or S-Video connectors as desired. (Note that you can connect both Composite
and S-Video cables to the input connectors but you cannot use both at the same
time. You must select one or the other for the signal conversion process using
the input select switch. V equals Composite Video and S equals S-Video.)
7.0 OPERATING THE UNIT
Operation of the AVT-1660 operation is for the most part automatic. The type of
television signal is automatically detected and the conversion process is also
automatic.
Manual intervention is limited to selecting either the Composite or S-Video
connector as the input source and selecting NTSC 3.58 or PAL as the output
type using the Input and Output switches. Once you’ve made those selections,
the front panel LEDs will indicate the input connector you’ve selected, the output
format you’ve selected and the type of input signal that the AVT-1660 has
detected. (Note that in the event of no input signal, the AVT-1660 will output
Front Panel LED Display
Rear Panel Connectors & Controls

7
Color Bars in either NTSC 3.58 or PAL formats depending on the output type
selection made.)
Please refer to the front panel LED drawing above for the discussion that follows.
7.1 Initial Power Up
When power is applied, the AVT-1660 will default to the auto detect mode and
select the proper Television Standard. The meaning of the abbreviations below
the LEDs areas follows:
SECAM SECAM Standard
PAL PAL
PM PAL-M
PN PAL-N
N4 NTSC 4.43 Mhz
N3 NTSC 3.58 Mhz
As an example of how the auto-detect works, if you live in the United States or
Japan, the detected input will be the NTSC 3.58 Standard and the unit will light
the “N3” LED. If you live in the United Kingdom, the standard will be PAL so the
“PAL” LED will light. In France, Russia and certain other countries, the SECAM
LEDs will light. Some countries use variants of these basic systems and if the
signal is one of these variants, an LED will light indicating the input signal type
that is being converted.
7.2 Input and Output LEDs
On the left of the Front Panel LED display matrix, two LEDs indicate which type
of signal, Composite or S-Video, you have selected with the rear panel input
switch. Similarly, on the right, two more LEDs indicate which output type you
have selected, NTSC or PAL.
8.0 TROUBLESHOOTING
Most problems with the AVT-1660 are related to misuse of the two switches and
defective cables. If you find that the picture is not acceptable, make certain that
the unit is receiving power and then check the position of the two switches on the
rear of the unit. Remember that you can only use one of the two possible input
connections at a time. Next, inspect the cables for loose connectors or cable
damage such as crushed cables or cables with cuts or nicks. Replace any cable
exhibiting these problems. (Note that you also must use the highest quality
cables if you want to achieve the best results. Poor quality cables will cause poor
quality signals.)
After trying the above suggestions should the problem still persist, contact your
dealer for additional suggestions before contacting AV Toolbox. Should the

8
dealer’s technical personnel be unable to assist you, contact AV Toolbox via our
parent company’s support website: http://tvone.crmdesk.com. Create a
technical support request on the site and our support team will respond within a
short period of time.
