1.0 INTRODUCTION
Thanks for purchasing this product from the AV Toolbox Division of TV One. The
AVT-3350 Analog Video to PC/HD Scaler is designed to convert interlaced NTSC
or PAL Video––S-Video or Composite Video format––to XGA, SXGA or UXGA
resolutions which allows the viewing of standard television images on your PC
monitor. The analog video input is also converted to HD resolutions of 480p to
1080p for viewing on an HD capable component television. In addition, 3D (frame
based) Motion Adaptive YNR/CNR noise reduction, Advanced 3D Motion
Adaptive De-Interlacing and Automatic 2:2 and 3:2 Film Mode Detection are all
standard features. AV Toolbox offers a wide range of video, audio and
multimedia products.

1.3 Getting the Best Results
There are many factors affecting the quality of results when scaling video signals.
Some basic precautions will ensure the best possible performance from your Up
Converter.
•Output display device – The quality of the output signal will depend
largely upon the type and quality of display device used. For instance,
some video projectors just look better than others.
•Distance between the Up Converter and the display device – This
plays a major role in the final result. Long distances are possible, but
special measures should be taken in order to avoid cable losses.
These include using high quality cables. Line amplifiers may also be
necessary.
•Input/Output connection cables – Low quality cables are susceptible
to interference. They degrade signal quality due to poor matching and
cause elevated noise levels. Therefore, cables should be of the best
quality. Coax-type computer cables are recommended because of
their superior internal shielding characteristics.
•Interference from nearby electrical devices – These can have an
adverse effect on signal quality. For example, an older computer
monitor often emits very high electromagnetic fields that can interfere
with the performance of video equipment in its proximity.

4.0 CONNECTING THE HARDWARE
Connect a Video Source to the input of the AVT-3350 Analog Video to PC/HD
Scaler, connect its output to a PC monitor or HD capable component TV and
lastly connect the AC to DC Power Adapter. The drawing below shows the
locations of the input, outputs, power switch and power connector.
The Input Select
Switch and Input
Indicator LED are
located on the top
of the unit.
The input side
of the AVT-3350
is where the
Composite
Video, S-Video
and the 5VDC
Power Adapter
connectors are
located.
The output side of the
AVT-3350 is where the
HD-15 PC Video con-
nector and the Output
Resolution Switch are
located.
The remaining switch,
labeled “MODE”, controls
the timing aspect of the
output signal type: PC or
HD.

6
4.1 Connecting the Monitor to the AVT-3350
To make certain your PC monitor or HD component TV is working properly,
check that a PC or HD component source device can produce a picture on it
before attempting to use it with the AVT-3350. If all is well, connect the monitor or
HD component TV to the output of the AVT-3350 using a high quality cable.
Note: If you do not know the maximum resolution that your monitor is capable of
accepting, set the AVT-3350 to XGA resolution using the three position switch
located on the output side of the unit initially. By the same token, if you are
unsure how high of a HD resolution your component HD TV can reproduce, set
the three position switch to 480p.
4.2 Connecting the Input to the AVT-3350
You can connect either a NTSC or a PAL input signal to the AVT-3350. The unit
will automatically determine which type signal it is receiving. For the signal cable
type, you’ll want to use S-Video if possible because it will produce the best
picture in most cases. With either input always use a high quality cable, as short
a length as possible, for best results.
4.3 Connecting Power to the AVT-3350
The AVT-3350 is shipped with a Power Adapter to convert 100~240VAC@50-
60Hz to 5VDC. Connect the DC Output Cable from the Power Adapter to the
back of the unit and then plug the Power Adapter into an AC Receptacle. The
AVT-3350 has no power switch. As soon as the Power Adaptor is connected, the
unit will receive power.
5.0 OPERATING THE AVT-3350
The AVT-3350 can output either PC type signals or HD component type signals
however you must set the MODE switch correctly to ensure the AVT-3350 will
operate properly. If you are using a PC monitor, place the MODE switch in the
PC position. If you are using a component HD television, place the switch in the
HD position. This is necessary because the two signal types do not have the
same timing sequences.
Note: some component HD televisions have an HD-15 connector for the input
whereas others have three RCA type connectors for the inputs. If your
component HD television has RCA connectors, you will need to purchase an HD-
15 to Component adapter.
Next, if you have connected a Composite Video signal to the AVT-3350, press
the input switch on the top of the unit until the LED indicator turns Yellow. If you
have connected an S-Video (Y/C) signal, press the input switch until the LED

7
indicator turns Red. The unit will automatically determine if the input signal is
NTSC or PAL format. As previously noted, unless you know for certain that your
PC monitor or component HD television will accept one of the available higher
resolutions, you should start with the lowest resolution by moving the Output
Resolution switch on the side of the unit to the XGA/480p position. Once you
have an image on the monitor or receiver, you can then experiment with the
higher resolutions to improve the image quality.
5.1 OSD Display
Your AVT-3350 has an On Screen Display (OSD) which will show the basic
operating conditions of the unit. To display this information, press and hold the
input switch on the top of the unit for 3 seconds. When in the PC mode, the
display will show Input format and output timing, source type (CV or SV), the PC
monitor’s recovered EDID data (resolution) and the AVT-3350 firmware version.
When the unit is operating in the HD mode, the display will show input format and
output timing, frame rate conversion, video system (CV, SV and either NTSC or
PAL) and the unit’s firmware version. You should make a note of the firmware
version in case you ever need to contact technical support.
6.0 TROUBLESHOOTING
Other than checking for faulty cables, the only common problem would be
choosing a resolution setting that your monitor does not support or having the
MODE switch in the wrong position for the signal type in use. Also, make certain
you have a good NTSC/PAL input signal and the Power Adapter is securely
plugged in both to the AC receptacle and to the AVT-3350. After trying the
above suggestions should the problem still persist, contact your dealer for
additional suggestions before contacting AV Toolbox. Should the dealer’s
technical personnel be unable to assist you, contact AV Toolbox via the TV One
support website: http://tvone.crmdesk.com. Create a technical support request
on the site and our support team will respond within a short period of time.
