WORKSHOP MANUAL
ARK
This manual was realized by Betamotor for use in workshops of BETA dealers.
It is assumed that people using this manual for servicing and repairing BETA vehicles have a basic knowledge of the princi-
ples of mechanics and procedures regarding the vehicles repairing techniques. Therefore many information have been inten-
tionally omitted as they were deemed to be superfluous.
This manual will be updated if important changes in the vehicle characteristics or specific repairing operations should be made.
This manual contains all useful information on interventions to be carried out on the three Ark models. In case different ope-
rations must be carried out on each single model, they will be expressly indicated herein.
Any important information herein contained are signalled by the following notes:
- To indicate key information making the process easier and more understandable.
- To signal any specific process that must be followed to avoid damaging the vehicle
- To signal any specific process that must be followed to prevent the person repairing the vehicle from getting
injured.

Dieses Handbuch wurde von der Firma Betamotor zum Gebrauch in den Werkstätten der Beta-Vertragshändler erstellt.
Wir setzen voraus, daß der Leser dieser Wartungs- und Reparaturanleitung für Beta-Fahrzeuge, Grundkenntnisse in Mechanik
und Fahrzeugreparaturtechniken hat. Aus diesem Grund haben wir viele, von uns als überflüssig gehaltene, Informationen
bewußt ausgelassen.
Wichtige Veränderungen an den technischen Fahrzeugdaten oder bei speziellen Reparaturarbeiten werden durch
Aktualisierungen zu dieser Anleitung mitgeteilt.
In diesem Handbuch sind die notwendigen Informationen für die Arbeiten an den drei Ark-Versionen zusammengefaßt. Weichen
bestimmte Arbeiten für die einzelnen Fahrzeugversionen voneinander ab, wird dies im Text besonders angegeben.
Besonders wichtige Informationen werden in diesem Handbuch durch folgende Angaben hervorgehoben:

Ce manuel a été réalisé par Betamotor pour être utilisé par les ateliers de réparation des concessionnaires BETA.
Il est sous-entendu que la personne qui utilise cette publication pour l'entretien et la réparation des véhicules BETA, possède
une connaissance de base des principes de la mécanique et des procédés liés à la technique de réparation des véhicules.
Pour cette raison, un bon nombre d'informations ont été volontairement omises car jugées superflues.
Les modifications importantes des caractéristiques des véhicules ou encore les opérations spécifiques de réparation seront
communiquées par des mises à jour de ce manuel.
Ce manuel contient les informations utiles pour les interventions à effectuer sur les trois versions Ark. Au cas où une distinc-
tion serait nécessaire entre les opérations à effectuer sur l’une ou l’autre des différentes versions, cette distinction sera explici-
tement mentionnée dans le texte.
Les informations particulièrement importantes de ce manuel sont mises en évidence par les annotations suivantes.

Este manual ha sido realizado por Betamotor para ser utilizado en los talleres de los concesionarios Beta. Se presupone que
quien utiliza esta publicación para el mantenimiento y reparación de los vehículos Beta, posea conocimientos básicos sobre
los principios de la mecánica y procedimientos inherentes a la técnica de reparación de los vehículos, por este motivo se ha
decidido omitir muchas informaciones consideradas superfluas. Las variaciones importantes de las carácteristicas de los
vehículos o de las operaciones específicas de reparación se comunicarán a través de actualizaciones de este manual.
En este manual han sido recogidas informaciónes útilies de las operaciones a efectuar en los tres modelos Ark. Cuando se
deban distinguir las operaciones efectuadas en un modelo u otro, se especificará explícitamente en el texto.
Las informacines especialmente importantes de este manual se han distinguido mediante las siguientes anotaciones.
- Indica una nota que da informaciones clave para que el procedimiento resulte más facil y claro.

Safety Regulations
- If engine needs to be run while carrying out certain opera-
tions on the vehicle, make sure that the room is well aired,
use suitable air-exhausters, if necessary; never run the
engine in closed places. Exhaust emissions are toxic.
- The battery’s electrolyte contains sulphuric acid. Sulphuric
acid is highly corrosive; in case of eyes or skin contact,
wash with plenty of water and consult a doctor immediate-
ly.
- Battery produces hydrogen which may be highly explosive.
Do not smoke and avoid using flames or sparks when
close to the battery, especially during the charging opera-
tions.
- Petrol is extremely inflammable and it might be explosive
under certain conditions. Do not smoke or use naked light
or sparks close to the working area.
- Clean the brake blocks, drums and pads in well aired
rooms directing the compressed air jet so as not to inhale
the dust produced by the blocks wear. Dust inhalation is
detrimental to health even though brake linings do not con-
tain amianthus.
Maintenance regulations
- Use BETA original spare parts and lubricating oils recom-
mended by the manufacturer. Non original or unsuitable
spare parts may damage the vehicle.
- Use only the special tools designed for this vehicle.
- Always use new gaskets, grommets and split pins when
reassembling.
- After disassembly, clean the components with non inflam-
mable solvents or solvents with a high flash point.
- Oil all the operating surfaces before refitting, except taper fits.
- After reassembly check all the components correct installa-
tion and operation.
- Use only tools with metric measures for disassembly, over-
hauling and reassembly. Metric screws, nuts and bolts are
not interchangeable with couplers bearing English mea-
sures. Using unsuitable tools and couplers may damage
the vehicle.
- When carrying out operations concerned with the vehicle’s
lighting set, check the correct assembly of the electrical
connections, in a particular manner the earth and battery
connections.
Sicherheitsvorschriften
- Müssen Arbeiten am Fahrzeug bei laufendem Motor aus-
geführt werden, ist unbedingt darauf zu achten, daß der
Raum gut durchlüftet ist. Gegebenenfalls müssen entspre-
chende Absauganlagen benutzt werden. Den Motor nie in
geschlossenen Räumen laufen lassen: Die Auspuffgase
sind giftig.
- Das Elektrolyt der Batterie enthält Schwefelsäure.
Schwefelsäure ist stark ätzend. Bei Kontakt mit Augen oder
Haut sofort mit ausreichend Wasser abspülen und sofort
einen Arzt aufsuchen.
- Die Batterie produziert Wasserstoff. Wasserstoff ist ein
hochexplosives Gas. Besonders beim Aufladen der Batterie
in der Nähe der Batterie nicht rauchen, offene Flammen
und Funken fernhalten.
- Benzin ist leicht entzündbar und kann unter bestimmten
Bedingungen explosiv sein. Im Arbeitsbereich nicht rau-
chen, offene Flammen und Funken fernhalten.
- Die Reinigung der Bremsbacken, Bremstrommeln und
Bremsbeläge muß in einem gut gelüfteten Raum vorge-
nommen werden. Der Druckluftstrahl muß so ausgerichtet
werden, daß das Abriebmaterial nicht eingeatmet wird. Die
Bremsbeläge und Bremsbacken enthalten kein Asbest, das
Einatmen des Staubs ist aber trotzdem schädlich.
Wartungsvorschriften
- Original Beta-Ersatzteile und die vom Hersteller empfohle-
nen Schmiermittel verwenden. Nicht originale oder nicht
konforme Ersatzteile können das Fahrzeug beschädigen.
- Ausschließlich die für dieses Fahrzeug entwickelten
Spezialwerkzeuge benutzen.
- Beim Wiedereinbau stets neue Dichtungen, Dichtungsringe
und Splinte benutzen.
- Nach dem Ausbau müssen alle Bauteile mit einem nicht
oder schwer entflammbaren Lösungsmittel gereinigt werden.
- Vor dem Wiedereinbau alle Arbeitsoberflächen, mit
Ausnahme der konischen Verbindungen, abschmieren.
- Nach dem Einbau überprüfen, ob alle Bauteile richtig
eingebaut sind und perfekt funktionieren.
- Für die Ausbau-, Revisions-, und Einbauarbeiten
ausschließlich Werkzeuge mit metrischen Maßen verwen-
den. Die metrischen Schrauben, Muttern und Bolzen kön-
nen nicht durch Verbindungsteile mit englischem Maß
ersetzt werden. Der Gebrauch und Einsatz von nicht
geeignetem Werkzeug und Verbindungsteilen kann
Schäden am Fahrzeug verursachen.
- Bei Arbeiten an der elektrischen Anlage des Fahrzeugs muß
der richtige Anschluß der elektrischen Verbindungen über-
prüft werden. Dies gilt besonders für den Massenanschluß
und die Batterieanschlüsse.

Règles de sécurité
- Dans le cas où, pour effectuer des interventions sur le véhi-
cule, il serait nécessaire de laisser le moteur en marche, il
faut s'assurer que l'endroit soit bien aéré, et utiliser éven-
tuellement des aspirateurs spéciaux; il ne faut jamais faire
fonctionner le moteur dans des locaux fermés. En effet, les
gaz d'échappement sont toxiques.
- L'électrolyte de la batterie contient de l'acide sulfurique.
L'acide sulfurique est hautement corrosif; s'il entre en
contact avec les yeux ou la peau, il faut laver abondam-
ment à l'eau et avoir recours immédiatement à des soins
médicaux.
- La batterie produit de l'hydrogène, un gaz qui peut être
hautement explosif. Ne pas fumer et éviter les flammes et
étincelles à proximité, surtout pendant les opérations de
charge.
- L'essence est hautement inflammable et peut même être
explosive dans certaines conditions. Il ne faut pas fumer
sur le lieu de travail et il ne doit y avoir ni flammes libres
ni étincelles.
- Effectuer le nettoyage des mâchoires, des tambours et des
plaquettes de frein dans un endroit bien aéré en orientant
le jet d'air comprimé de manière à ne pas inspirer la pous-
sière produite par l'usure des mâchoires.
Bien que les garnitures ne contiennent pas d'amiante, l'in-
halation de la poussière n’en est pas moins nocive.
Règles d'entretien
- Utiliser des pièces de rechange d'origine BETA et les lubri-
fiants préconisés par la maison. Les pièces de rechange
non d'origine ou non conformes peuvent endommager le
véhicule.
- N'utiliser que les outils spécifiques conçus pour ce véhicu-
le.
- Toujours utiliser des joints, bagues d'étanchéité et gou-
pilles neuves lors du remontage.
- Après le démontage, nettoyer les composants avec un sol-
vant non inflammable ou à haut point d'éclair.
- Lubrifier toutes les surfaces de travail avant le remontage,
à l'exception des portées coniques.
- Après le remontage contrôler que tous les composants ont
été montés correctement et qu'ils fonctionnent parfaite-
ment.
- Pour les opérations de démontage, révision et remontage,
n'utiliser que des outils de mesures métriques. Les vis,
écrous et boulons métriques ne sont pas interchangeables
avec les organes d'union de mesure anglaise. L'utilisation
d'outils et d'organes d'union inadaptés peut causer des
dommages au véhicule.
- Dans le cas d'interventions sur le circuit électrique du véhi-
cule, vérifier le montage correct des connexions électriques
et plus particulièrement des branchements à la masse et à
la batterie.
Normas de seguridad
- En caso de que para realizar cualquier operación en el
vehículo fuese necesario tener el motor en marcha, ase-
gurese con anterioridad de que el ambiente esté bien ven-
tilado, eventualmente utilizar aspiradores apropiados para
ello, no dejar funcionar nunca el motor en lugares cerra-
dos, el gas de escape es tóxico.
- El electrolitó de la batería contiene ácido sulfúrico. El ácido
sulfúrico tiene un alto poder de corrosión, si entra en con-
tacto con los ojos o con la piel, lavar abundantemente con
agua y recurrir inmediatamente a curas médicas.
- La batería produce hidrógeno, gas que puede ser de alto
valor explosivo. No fumar y evitar la presencia en próxi-
midad de la batería de llamas o chispas , especialmente
durante las operaciones de recarga de la misma.
- La gasolina es extremadamente inflamable y en ciertas
condiciones puede ser explosiva. En la zona de trabajo no
se debe fumar y no deben haber llamas libres o chispas.
- Efectuar la limpieza de las mordazas, de los tambores y
de las pastillas de los frenos en un ambiente ventilado ,
dirigiendo la salida del aire comprimido de forma tal que
se evite inspirar el polvo producido por el desgaste de las
mordazas.
Aunque los ferodos no contengan amianto la inhalación
de su polvo es igualmente nociva.
Normas de mantenimiento
- Usar recambios originales Beta y lubricantes aconsejados
por la Casa. Los recambios no originales o no conforme
pueden dañar el vehículo.
- Usar solo el utillaje específico proyectado para este vehí-
culo.
- Utilizar siempre juntas, retenes, y pasadores nuevos
durante el remontaje.
- Después del desmontaje, limpiar los componentes con
disolvente no inflamable o de alto índice de inflamabilidad.
- Lubricar todas las superficies sobre las que se trabaja
antes de volver a montarlas, excluyendo los acoplamien-
tos cónicos.
- Despues del montaje controlar que todos los componen-
tes hayan sido instalados corréctamente y que funcionen
perfectamente.
- Respecto a las operaciones de desmontaje, revisión y
montaje, usar exclusivamente utillaje con medidas métri-
cas. Los tornillos, las tuercas y los pernos métricos no son
intercambiables con organos de unión con medidas ingle-
sas. La utilización de utillaje y de organos de unión no
adaptos puede causar dañós al vehículo.
- En caso de efectuar operaciones sobre el vehículo que
conciernen a la instalación eléctrica, verificar el correcto
montaje de las conexiones eléctricas, y de manera espe-
cial las conexiones a masa y de la batería.

BATTERY
This component requires constant care and diligent servicing. Make sure that the liquid is completely covering the plates;
if not, top up to the right level using distilled water (never use natural water even if it is drinkable). If the vehicle is not used
for a certain period of time (1 month or longer), it is necessary to recharge the battery from time to time. The battery tends
to run down completely in about three months. When placing the battery on the motorcycle, mind not to invert the con-
nections: connect the black earth cable to the negative terminal and the red cable to the terminal marked +.
