USAGE
INITIAL USE
The batteries are already installed in the
device.
Pull off the protective cover to remove it.
BASIC SETTINGS
Switch the device on with the on/off button (6)
and press the SET button (8). When the year
display starts to flash use the green '+' and '-'
side buttons (9) to set the year and confirm
with the SET button (8).
Proceed as described above for the
day –month –hour –and minute.
Next, set the lower limit of the normal
glycaemic range (recommended value 80), the
upper limit of the normal glycaemic range
(recommended value 180) and set the
activation / deactivation of the acoustic signal
(BEEP).
PREPARING THE DEVICE FOR USE
Insert the test strip into the device so that the
contacts are pointing inside the slot as
indicated
by the arrow. The device will switch on
automatically.
After approximately 3 seconds, a flashing
blood drop symbol will appear on the screen:
This means the device is now ready to take
the reading.
TAKING A BLOOD SAMPLE
Once the sterile lancet needle is in place,
firmly position the lancing device slightly to
the side of the centre of the fingertip and
press the trigger.
A drop of blood of at least 1.2 mm in size
should form ( • correct blood drop size).

Make sure that the blood remains as a
droplet and does not spread over the finger.
Place the test strip across the blood drop as
shown in the image (do not remove the test
strip from the device at this stage).
The test strip will automatically siphon the
blood required for the reading and the
device will emit a BEEP.
Caution! Blood may only be drawn from the
blood input gap (at the tip of the test strip).
Should blood be deposited on or under the
strip, there is a risk that the reading may not
give an accurate measurement.
READING THE RESULT
A 5 second countdown starts automatically.
The measurement will appear in the display
with the date, time and a bar pointing at the
colour-coded target scale (at either the red,
green or yellow segment).
Use the bar to interpret the results as
follows:
The bar is in the red area = low blood
glucose levels
The bar is in the green area = normal blood
glucose levels
The bar is in the yellow area = high blood
glucose levels
Result labelling (optional)
The results can be labelled by using the
'apple button': press once for 'before meal';
twice for 'after meal'; 3 times for general

labelling; 4 times to cancel labelling.
Labelling is optional.
EJECTING TEST STRIPS
Use the side eject button to release the test
strip without coming into contact with it.
The device switches off automatically.
MEASUREMENT MEMORY
Measurements are automatically stored
with the date and time (holds up to 900
measurements). To display the recorded
values: turn the device on using the on/off
button and press the green ‘+’or ‘-‘side
buttons. The diary symbol is displayed
between the date and time.
AVERAGE VALUES
You can view the average glycaemic values
from the past 7, 14, 30 and 90 days. Turn
the device on with the on/off button and
press the '+' button twice. Press the green
'+' and '-' buttons to display averages with
or without labelling.
DATA TRANSFER TO PC OR THE APP
Connect the device to the PC with the cable
provided. Data may be transferred via the
Glucomemory or the HealthManager
software as well as via the
HealthManagerPro Uploader to the app on
your smartphone. With the GL48 it's
possible to transfer data to Smart Digital
Clinic and Glooko.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CORRECT DISPOSAL OF DISCARDED MATERIALS
After use, dispose of test strips and lancet needles in a puncture-proof container.
It is essential to comply with the generally applicable safety precautions for handling
blood when disposing of test strips and lancets. Dispose of all blood samples and
materials with which you or your caregivers come into contact correctly in order to
prevent injury and infection of other persons. All components of the monitor and its
accessories may come into contact with human blood and are therefore a possible
source of infection.
Empty, completely flat batteries must be disposed of through specially designated collection
boxes, recycling points or electronics retailers. It is a legal requirement to dispose of the
batteries.

The codes below are printed on batteries containing harmful substances:
Pb = Battery contains lead,
Cd = Battery contains cadmium,
Hg = Battery contains mercury.
For environmental reasons, do not dispose of the device or the the connection cable
in the household waste at the end of their service life. They must be disposed at at a
suitable local collection or recycling point. Dispose of the device in accordance with EC
Directive –WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment). If you have any
questions, please contact the local authorities responsible for waste disposal.
