INTRODUCTION
BLS 2600next electric fan is an overpressure as-
sisted breathing system. It has been designed to
operate in areas with high concentrations of toxic
particulates and under high temperature operat-
ing conditions. In order to be a complete assist-
ed breathing system, the electric fan must be
equipped with the appropriate lter, battery and
full-face mask. Examples of typical applications:
the decontamination of asbestos, agriculture, the
production of cements, pharmaceutical products,
etc.
This manual contains all the necessary information
for an operator trained to use the BLS 2600next
electric fan in an effective and safe manner, and
must therefore be read carefully before use. Keep

BLS 5400 EN 136:1998 Cl.3
The BLS 2600next system is powered by re-
chargeable Li-Ion batteries (TDS); these batter-
ies have no memory effect and are constantly
fully recharged. The use of rechargeable Li-Ion
batteries helps maintaining the low weight of the
entire system, while at the same time providing
high operation autonomy. The battery does not
require any maintenance except the execution of
a correct charging procedure. BLS 2600next elec-
tric fan can maintain a positive pressure inside the
mask, allowing easier breathing and increased
comfort of use compared to normal lter systems.
BLS 2600 next electric fan complies with the EN
12942+A1:2002 +A2:2008 standard when used
with BLS TMP3 lter and the full-face masks in
the aforementioned models. The fan features a
battery charger which provides optimal automatic
battery recharging.
FILTER DEVICE SELECTION
The following parameters must be taken into con-
sideration when selecting the lter device: NPF
(nominal protection factor) is the number derived
from the maximum percentage of total internal
loss allowed in the relevant European standards
(NPF = 100/% max total internal loss allowed).
APF (Assigned Protection Factor) is the realistic
protection value that can be expected to be ob-
tained from a properly worn device (different for
each country). TLV (Threshold Limit Value) is a con-
centration threshold - generally expressed in parts
per million, ppm - for the safety of people exposed
to a hazardous substance in the air. APF multiplied
by the TLV of the substance approximates the lim-
it concentration to which one can expose oneself
with a particular device. For an accurate selection
and maintenance of lter devices, as well as for
the denitions and use of NPF and APF it is rec-
ommended to refer to the European standard EN
529:2005 and the related national regulations.

LIMITATIONS OF USE
BLS 2600next electric fan equipped with full-face
mask and lter is a PPE and must be used only for
the protection of the respiratory tract, by people
trained and familiar with the prevalent contaminant
in the working conditions. It must not be used by
people with beards, eyeglasses with temples, or
facial abnormalities that could compromise the
mask seal.
BLS 2600next electric fan must not be used in the
following circumstances:
1. In areas where the nature and concentration of
the contaminant is unknown;
2. In tanks, silos, adjoining spaces or areas where
the oxygen level is less than 17% by volume;
3. At ambient temperatures below -10 °C or above
+50 °C;
4. In areas where the contaminant concentration
is too high (contact customer service for further
information);
5. If the lter has not been correctly selected with
respect to the harmful agent;
6. There must be no toxic gases or vapors in con-
centrations above the TLV;
7. When the maximum concentration of the con-
taminant (dust, metal fumes - viruses - bacterial
particles) is higher than 500 times the TLV.
BLS 2600next electric fan must only be used with
BLS full-face masks models BLS 5150 and BLS
5400 and with BLS TMP3 dust lter.
FILTER PLACEMENT (ref. Figure A)
The following checks must be carried out before
inserting the lter inside the BLS 2600next electric
fan:
1. Check the integrity of the package. The bag
containing the lter must be closed. It is necessary
to shake the lter to make sure that the contained
components are not detached. If not, check for any
lter damage. TMP3 lters have an expiry date
printed on the lter itself (5 years from the date of
manufacture). In any case, after removing the lter
from the bag, if not used within six months, it must
be replaced with a new one. It is therefore neces-
sary to note the date when opening the package if
it is planned not to use the lter immediately.
2. Carefully read the instructions attached to the
package.
Once these preliminary checks have been com-
pleted, the lter is inserted into the electric fan

10
11
following the instructions below (the drawing in
gure A shows the operations to be carried out in
sequence):
• Make sure that the limit edge is clean and in
good condition (only if the electric fan has al-
ready been used).
• Insert the lter as shown in the gure so that
the limit edge coincides with the lter sealing
gasket.
• Manually screw the xing ferrule to ensure ap-
propriate locking of the parts.
• Before the decontaminating shower: snap the
waterproof cover onto the xing ferrule, follow-
ing the direction indicated by the arrow (the
slits must be directed downwards)
Fig. A
BEFORE USE
It is necessary to make sure that:
1. The entire PPE has been properly cleaned and
decontaminated;
2. The correct lter assembly procedure has been
followed;
3. The corrugated hose is free of cracks, deforma-
tions, cuts or other faults (a damaged hose must
be replaced);
4. The mask is checked following the instructions
attached to the relative mask models;
5. The belt is assembled correctly in order to wear
the electric fan. The belt can be adjusted in a con-
ventional manner and the electric fan can be worn
in any comfortable position although it is recom-
mended to position it on the back with a moder-
ately tight belt.
We recommend checking the correct t of the cor-
rugated hose in order to avoid entangling. (Fig.B)
Fig. B
After carrying out these checks and always fol-
lowing the relative instructions, proceed with the
assembly of the padded support around the belt.
The mask is put on and the tightness test is per-
formed by closing the air inlet with the palm of the
hand. Inhale and hold the breath for a few sec-
onds. Therefore, the mask is pressed against the
face by the depression created inside, the face
seal provides perfect closure, and you should not
feel the slightest leak; this can be noticed by feel-
ing the mask detaching from the face (if the mask
does not pass the tightness test, it is necessary
to carry out a complete inspection of the parts). If
everything goes properly, connect the corrugated
hose to the mask by screwing the male threaded
ferrule to the central female threaded tting of the
mask, checking the integrity of the seal. Fasten
and secure the belt around your waist. Turn on the
BLS 2600next electric fan and proceed to the work
area.
DURING USE
Appropriate levels of protection can only be
achieved if the mask is constantly worn in the con-
taminated area. During work, any interference with
the tightness of the face seal must be avoided; do
not pull the hose or perform any other action that
could affect the proper seal of the mask. The in-
structions below must be followed in order to en-
sure the required level of protection:
1. Make sure that the lter has not been perforated
by any foreign objects;
2. Make sure not to exceed the maximum duration

10
11
limit of the battery set to guarantee a minimum
ow rate of 160 l/min and an operating duration
of 4 hours;
3. Do not use the BLS 2600next electric fan longer
than specied;
4. If breathing becomes more difcult (increased
inhalation effort) due to excessive clogging of the
lter, immediately leave the contaminated area
and replace the lter;
5. If the electric fan stops working, leave the work
area immediately because the lack of positive
pressure can reduce the protection level;
6. The acoustic alarm system signals insufcient
air ow situations;
7. The colored LED light signals the following in-
formation, according to the table below:

AFTER USE
It is necessary to decontaminate the electric fan
before leaving the work area, according to the fol-
lowing procedure:
1. Electric fan and mask must be worn while re-
moving the protective clothing;
2. Make sure that the waterproof cover is properly
positioned;
3. Turn off the fan before entering the shower area;
4. When rinsing the mask, hose and fan unit, be
careful not to let the water into the unit, the lter
and the hose in order to avoid contamination that
is difcult to remove;
5. Remove the fan and mask and store them out-
side the shower cabin;
6. Proceed with the decontamination shower;
7. Clean the electric fan, the exible hose and the
mask with a soft damp cloth, making sure not to
let the water into the hose and into the fan. Use a
brush to clean the recessed corners;
8. Allow the electric fan, hose and mask to dry in a
ventilated area, without using radiant heat;

12
13
9. If you want to disinfect the mask, after carry-
ing out the aforementioned cleaning and washing
operations, immerse the clean mask in a diluted
solution of common disinfectant. Dry with a soft
and clean cloth or blow with a light jet of fresh air;
10. Charge the electric fan if necessary;
11. Replace the lter after each decontamination
shower.
RECHARGE
BLS 2600next electric fan must always be fully re-
charged before use. The charger requires a power
supply of 100-240 Volt, 50HZ and is optimized to
guarantee maximum battery life (min. 500 cycles/
recharge), if properly used. The battery charger
features a connection cable equipped with a po-
larized plug, used to connect to the electric fan.
Connect the battery charger to the electric fan
by means of the charging socket located on the
electric fan. A recharge generally takes 6 hours;
a longer time does not damage the battery as the
battery charger is equipped with a charge current
control device and timer. At the end of the recharg-
ing operation it is necessary to disconnect the re-
charging system and reposition the rubber cap on
the electric fan’s charging socket. This protection
keeps the water out during the decontamination
shower; the protection also keeps the contaminant
out during use.
DISCONNECTED BATTERY INDICATIONS
Battery disconnected alarm is indicated by
GREEN FLASHES. In this mode, the charger will
apply short pulses attempting to restore fully dis-
charged batteries.
STANDBY MODE INDICATIONS
Yellow with 1 red ash: the battery temperature is
too low (<0 °C)
Yellow with 2 red ashes: the battery temperature
is too high (>45 °C)
ERROR INDICATIONS
2 red ashes: the battery is connected to the char-
ger with the wrong polarity!
3 red ashes: the charger output is shorted. Check
the connection of the output cable!
4 red ashes: the battery voltage is low. Check the
battery status or voltage.
5 red ashes: the safety timer has expired. Check
the battery status or capacity.
LED off: the battery voltage is too high. Check the
battery voltage.
At the end of the recharging operation it is nec-
essary to disconnect the recharging system and
reposition the rubber cap on the electric fan’s
charging socket. This protection keeps the water
out during the decontamination shower; the pro-
tection also keeps the contaminant out during use.
STORAGE AND USEFUL LIFE OF THE PPE
If the BLS 2600next electric fan is not used, it must
be stored in a clean and dry place (maximum hu-
midity 75%), away from heat sources (tempera-
tures between -10 °C and +50 °C). Keep in mind
that the battery could be damaged during long
storage periods, therefore in order to keep it ef-
cient it is recommended to carry out a discharge/
charge cycle every two/three months of inactivity.
The battery can be discharged by switching on the
fan for a number of hours sufcient to enable the
red low battery LED. It may be useful to remove
the battery from the fan for long periods of inactiv-
ity (over six months).
INSPECTIONS AND MAINTENANCE
Depending on the work to which the BLS 2600next
electric fan is subjected, it is necessary to check
the following parts periodically:
1. Mask: see use and maintenance instructions
attached to the relevant mask models.
2. Corrugated exible hose: check its integrity; it
must not be cut, perforated or deformed.
3. Electric fan body: check the integrity of the lter
edge; it must not be scratched or crushed in order
to compromise the seal.
4. Belt: check its integrity; it must not have cuts or
scratches, and the closing buckle must be func-
tional and well connected to the belt.
In the event of a signicant decrease in the air ow
rate during use, this may depend on:
1. Excessively clogged lter;
2. Cut or perforated hose;
3. Low battery;
4. Faulty battery;
5. Faulty battery charger;
6. Faulty motor/fan.
These troubles must be checked in the aforemen-
tioned sequence, after leaving the work area.
IMPORTANT
Any maintenance intervention must be authorized
and carried out at centers appointed by BLS Srl.
In the event of faults regarding the electric fan’s
motor or internal parts, the BLS 2600next electric
fan must be sent perfectly DECONTAMINATED,
accompanied by a note indicating the fault and a
self-certication of decontamination. This is to en-
sure prompt repairs and checks carried out with
the appropriate tools and in total safety. For further
