1 Overview
The logged data an be downloaded via Palm Pilot te hnology to the omputer-
based software.
Configuration data an be transferred via the Palm Pilot te hnology both to the
omputer as well as from the omputer ba k to the CS-440RC.
The system an be onfigured dire tly into the CS-440RC in the vehi le or a
standard onfiguration an be generated in the omputer software and transferred
to the CS-440RC. This te hnique saves time, as mu h of the onfiguration data is
the same for all vehi les and in this manner onfiguring only needs to be done on e.

2 Configuring and Setting up t e CS-440RC
2.1 How to Configure the CS-440RC
The manual is broken down into the various omponents that make up a system,
when troubleshooting a se tion of the system go dire tly to the page overing that
parti ular se tion. (See Table of Contents.)
The following instru tions apply to all of the se tions making up a system, be oming
familiar with these steps will allow you to Configure and Set-up any individual
se tion.
To set up the CS-440RC a programming key is needed, this is to prevent
unauthorized personnel from making adjustments. Make sure only authorized staff
has a ess to the key.
Insert the key and turn same ¼ turn and the s reen to the left will appear.
Using the navigation button move the ursor to the area to be onfigured and press
the Enter button.
Pla e the ursor in front of “SYSTEM” and press the Enter button. The s reen to the
left will appear.

Contents for the proper page number and instru tion for ea h se tion.
To return to the first s reen, press the Es ape button.

3 System Configuration
3.1 Re etting the Parameter to Default Setting
Insert the programming key, sele t “SYSTEMS”, and sele t “SYSTEM RESET”. The
s reen to the left will appear.
If the parameters are to be reset, move the ursor to “YES” and press the Enter
button. If the parameters are not to be reset, press the Enter button.
Press the Es ape button to return to the first s reen.
3.2 Setting the Location ID
Insert the programming key and sele t “SYSTEMS”, and sele t “NAME-ID”. The
s reen to the left will appear.
To add or edit the REGION name, press the Enter button.
There are 8 digits available for the name, using the Left or Right navigation button,
move the ursor under the letter or number to be added or hanged.
Using the Up or Down navigation button, hange the letter or number as required.
On e all the letters or numbers have been added or hanged. Press the Enter
button.
Press the Es ape button twi e to return to the first s reen.
3.3 Setting the Truck ID
Insert the programming key, sele t “SYSTEMS”, and sele t “NAME-ID”. The s reen
to the left will appear.
Use the Down navigation button to move the ursor to “TRUCK ID” and press the
Enter button.
There are 8 digits available for the tru k ID, using the Left or Right navigation button
move to the letter or number to be added or hanged.
Using the Up or Down navigation button, hange the letter or number as required.

3.4 Setting the Unit of Mea urement
Insert the programming key, sele t “SYSTEMS”, and sele t “SYSTEM UNITS”. The
s reen to the left will appear.
Use the Up or Down navigation buttons to move the ursor to the desired units and
press the Enter button.
Press the Es ape button to return to the first s reen.
3.5 Setting the Unit of Mea urement
Insert the programming key, sele t “SYSTEMS SETUP”, sele t “CONTROL MODE”
and sele t “CONVEYOR”. The s reen to the left will appear.

3.6 Setting the Date and Time
Insert the programming key, sele t “SYSTEMS”, sele t “OPERATION SETTINGS”,
and sele t “DATE & TIME”. The s reen to the left will appear.
To edit the Se ond, Minute, Hour, Date, Month or Year use the Navigational arrow,
move the Cursor in front of the item to be edited and press the Enter button.
Using the Left or Right navigation button, move the ursor under the number to be
hanged.
Using the Up or Down navigation button, hange the number as required.
On e all the numbers have been hanged, press the Enter button.
On e all the items have been orre ted, press the Es ape button three (3) times to
return to the first s reen.
3.7 Enabling GPS Mode
Insert the programming key, sele t “SYSTEMS SETUP”, sele t “CONTROL MODE”
and then sele t either 0 for OFF and 1 for ON.

4 Ground Speed Configuration
4.1 Overview
The CS-440RC Controller determines ground speed by monitoring the pulses it
re eives from the ground speed sensor mounted in the vehi le transmission. This
sensor is the same sensor providing the vehi le’s odometer with the ne essary input
for the odometer to have the ability to indi ate speed and distan e.
In order for the CS-440RC to have the ability to al ulate ground speed and distan e
it must first be a urately alibrated. The pro ess of alibration tells the CS-440RC
exa tly how many pulses per KM or Mile it will re eive from the transmission
mounted sensor.
The pro ess of alibration needs to be ompleted for ea h vehi le, as ea h vehi le’s
system is not exa tly the same. Dis repan ies may o ur due to sensor mounting
differen es, tire sizes differen es et .; thus, alibrating ea h vehi le independently
is the only way of ensuring a ura y.
There are a number of methods for alibrating the ground speed input and ea h
method may result in varying levels of a ura y. Listed below are the most ommon
te hniques whi h may be used, the a ura y level for ea h te hnique is refle ted in
the numbering with number one (1) being the most a urate.
1. Driving the vehi le over a measured distan e. By measuring out the distan e of
one (1) KM for metri system users or one (1) Mile for Imperial system users and
driving the vehi le over this measured distan e allows the CS-440RC to ount
the pulses it re eives over this distan e. This pulse ount an then be entered
into the “Pulses per KM/Mile s reen and on e this value has been entered the
CS-440RC ground speed is properly alibrated.
2. Auto- alibration to a hand held GPS unit. By driving the vehi le at a
predetermined speed using a handheld GPS unit as the speed indi ator. Using a
hand held GPS unit will result in greater a ura y then using the vehi le
speedometer. The a ura y level is only as a urate as the GPS Unit’s
alibration. During the alibration pro ess the CS-440RC will determine the
pulses per KM or Mile; this ount will be refle ted on the “Speed input” s reen
on e the auto alibration pro ess has been ompleted.
3. If the vehi le is equipped with a GPS system, auto- alibration to the GPS
provider’s ground speed signal. By driving the vehi le at a predetermined speed
using the GPS provider’s ground speed signal as the speed indi ator. The
a ura y level is only as a urate as the GPS system’s alibration. During the

alibration pro ess the CS-440RC will determine the pulses per KM or Mile; this
ount will be refle ted on the “Speed input” s reen on e the auto alibration
pro ess has been ompleted.

predetermined speed using the vehi le’s speedometer as the speed indi ator.

volume se tion of road and mark the starting and end point with learly visible
markers.
•Drive the vehi le to the starting point and stop with the vehi le’s front bumper
in line with the marker.
•On the CS-440RC, press the Es ape button. (The programming key is not
needed for this.)
•With the ursor arrow pointing at “Trip Summery”, press Enter.
•The top line of the transa tion s reen will refle t “XXXXX KM/Mile Total Dist”.
•Press the Es ape button to leave the Trip Summery s reen and press the
Es ape button again to re-enter.
•With the ursor arrow pointing at “Transa tion s reen”, press Enter.
•The top line will now read “XXXXX Pls Total dist.”
•Press the Enter button to reset all values to Zero (0).
•Drive the vehi le over the measured KM/Mile and stop with the front bumper in
line with the End point marker.
•On the CS-440RC, press the Es ape button. (The programming key is not
needed for this).
•With the ursor arrow pointing at “Trip Summery s reen”, press Enter.
•The top line will now read “XXXXX Pls Total dist.”, write down the number of
pulses indi ated.
Insert the programming key, sele t “SENSORS AND VALVES”, and sele t “GRND
SPD SENSOR”. The s reen to the left will appear.

Drive the vehi le at the speed entered above, on e the vehi le is steady at this
speed press the Enter button and the s reen to the left will appear.
Hold the vehi le speed steady while this s reen is on the display, on e this s reen
disappears and returns to the previous s reen, the alibration is omplete.
The speed at whi h you are driving will now be refle ted on the s reen in the lower,
right hand orner.

If ground speed verifi ation is arried out, for example using a hand held GPS
navigator and the ground speed is found to be ina urate, an adjustment in the
pulses per KM or Mile an be made on the “SPEED INPUT” s reen to orre t this.
During the verifi ation pro ess the s reen to the left would be on the display.
While driving the vehi le, the vehi le speed reading on this s reen is ompared to
the GPS speed reading.
•If the speed alibration is off, Press the Enter button to enter the SPEED INPUT
phase.
•Using the Left or Right navigation button, move the ursor under the number to
be hanged.
•Using the Up or Down navigation button, hange the pulses per kilometer or
mile as required to orre t the ina ura y.
•On e all the numbers have been hanged, press the Enter button.

Make sure that the vehi le is stationary (ground speed = 0) and display is on main
OPERATION SCREEN, as shown to the left.
Hold Enter button down, press Es ape button, and let go both buttons at the same
time.
Press Es ape to swit h to OPERATOR SCREEN, as shown to the left.
Press Up and Down buttons to adjust simulated ground speed, as shown to the left.
The speed will in rease and de rease in 5 mile or kilometer per hour in rements.

5 Conveyor Hydraulic Valve Configuration
5.1 Nulling of the Valve Solenoid
Nulling of the solenoids is the pro ess required to set the minimum and maximum
Controller amperage outputs to the solenoid, for effi ient operation.
“Minimum nulling” sets the ontroller output amperage at the minimum amperage
required to over ome the system fri tion. This enhan es onveyor start up during
the spreading operation as the Controller starts its output at this minimum
amperage rather than zero amps.
“Maximum nulling” sets the maximum Controller output at the amperage required to
obtain the maximum hydrauli motor speed without ex eeding the maximum motor
design speed.
“Forward Gain” is another fa tor to be onsidered for prompt start up. This is built
into the system to over ome an inherit hydrauli motor pulsing problem. On e the
hydrauli motor inlet oil pressure is suffi ient to reate motion, the motor will pulse
during start up until it re eives enough oil flow for ontinuous motion.
As ontinuous motion is required for even spreading, we need to give the motor a
“boost”, thus an additional in rease in the Controller output is provided for to take
the motor past the pulsing stage. Forward Gain is only temporary and it will
disappear on e the onveyor is turning.
5.1.1 Minimum Nulling
Insert the programming key, sele t “SENSORS AND VALVES”, and sele t
“CONVEYOR SETUP”. The s reen to the left will appear.
Using the Navigational Arrow, move the ursor down to “VALVE SETTING” and press
Enter. The s reen to the left will appear.
