Add a BRNKL Mate | 4
Add a BRNKL Mate
Add wireless and other compatible devices to
BRNKL by adding a BRNKL Mate.
To add a Mate, follow these steps:

Disconnect all AC power sources before
accessing electrical panels, switches, or
devices.
Caution
If the boat or RV electrical system is
complex, or you’re unfamiliar with basic
electrical systems, hire a professional
installer or a marine electrician.

Tools
• 2.5 mm athead screwdriver
(included with BRNKL)
• Phillips #2 screwdriver
• wire stripper/crimper tool
• ashlight or headlamp

What you need
You need these things to add a BRNKL Mate to BRNKL:

• Avoid placement with ports facing up.
• Face toward wireless sensor locations.
Install Mate hardware
To install BRNKL Mate hardware, follow these steps:
A. Select position
Select a position to install the Mate
following these guidelines:
• Ensure a stable mounting surface.
• If using standard cables, place within 30
cm (12") of the installed BRNKL.

• Allow 10 cm (4") clearance to access the
ports on the bottom of the Mate.

B. Mount and secure
1. Align the Mate squarely in the selected
position, then mark the screw holes.
On hardened surfaces, drill pilot holes as
required.
2. Secure in place using the four supplied
screws.

Prepare POWER cable
From the Mate end of wiring:
1. Run the POWER cable to the connector
on the bottom of the BRNKL.

2. Leave 5 cm (2") of extra cable, then trim.

3. Strip 5 mm (1/4") of insulation from the
end of the red [+] and black [-] wires.

Prepare Mate wiring
To prepare BRNKL Mate wiring:

A. Connect POWER cable
Connect the Mate POWER cable to the
BRNKL house battery connection or other
constant 12-24V DC power source.
At the BRNKL end of the wiring:
1. Remove the connector.
2. On the connector, loosen the screw
above slot 10.
This slot also connects to the house
battery.
3. Insert the red [+] wire into slot 10, then
tighten the screw to fasten.
Don't remove other wires.

4. Loosen the screw above slot 14.
This slot can connect to more than one
device.
Connect Mate wiring
To connect BRNKL Mate wiring, follow these steps:
5. Insert the black [-] wire into slot 14,
then tighten the screw to fasten.

6. Reattach the connector.
On the Mate, the status indicator light
blinks red when connected to power.
7. Secure the cable with cable ties and
mounts.

C. Connect BRNKL cable
1. Plug the BRNKL cable into the BRNKL
camera port and turn the collar to
fasten.

On the Mate, the status indicator light
blinks green when connected to the
BRNKL.
2. Secure the cable with cable ties and
mounts.
B. Disconnect camera cable
At the BRNKL camera port:
1. Turn the collar on the camera cable plug
to unfasten the cable.

2. Pull to remove the cable.

Connect camera to Mate
To connect a camera to a BRNKL Mate:
Connect camera cable
On the Mate:
1. Plug the camera cable into the yellow Y
port and turn the collar to fasten.

To connect a second camera, plug the
cable into the blue B port.
2. Secure the cable with cable ties and
mounts.

Connect to BRNKL account
On the mobile device:
1. Make sure that Bluetooth®is turned on.

Don't pair the device with the Mate.
2. Open BRNKL.
3. From Settings, select Add Device.
4. Select BRNKL Mate, then follow the
instructions.
Stay within 5 m (15 ft) of the Mate
during the process.
Connect Mate to account
To connect BRNKL Mate to a BRNKL account:
Connect all Mate wiring to BRNKL before
connecting to a BRNKL account.
