How to STORE numbers
1. Press the STORE key
2. Press either one of the 3 direct dial
memory keys or the Quickdial followed
by a dialling key
3. Dial the number to be stored
4. Finally press the STORE key again

numbers stored in the memory.

Store button
A ows you to store phone numbers in
the Quickdia and One-touch memories.
R (recall) button
Reca button for use with some
BT Ca ing Features and switchboards.
Handset park
When the BIG Button + is
wa -mounted, you can hook the handset
on this if you need to temporari y move
away from the phone.
Memory label
For making a note of
names and numbers
stored in the Quickdia
memories.
One-Touch memory buttons
Enab es you to quick y dia your most
regu ar y used numbers or a stored
number for emergencies. The midd e
button is pre-programmed with 1571.
This can be overwritten if required.
S (secrecy) button
Press to speak to someone in the same room
without the person on the other end of the ine
hearing your conversation.

Safety information
General
Simply clean your BIG Button + ith a damp (not et)
cloth, or an antistatic ipe.
Never use household polish as this may damage
the product.
Never use a dry cloth as this may cause static shock.
Do not open the BIG Button +. This could expose you to
high voltages or other risks.
Never dispose of batteries in a fire. There is a serious risk of
explosion and/or the release of highly toxic chemicals.
Environmental
Do not expose to direct sunlight.
We recommend that you do not place the product on
antique/veneered ood to avoid damage.
Do not stand your product on carpets or other surfaces
hich generate fibres, or place it in locations preventing
free flo of air over its surfaces.

Do not submerge any part of your product in ater and
do not use it in damp or humid conditions, such as in
bathrooms.
Do not expose your product to fire, explosive or other
hazardous conditions.
The emergency services can be contacted in the UK by
dialling 999. You may also dial 112, hich is valid in any
country that is a member of the European Community.
You may not be able to make an emergency call in
certain situations:
• If the telephone line is disconnected.
• If there is a fault on the line from your phone or on
the net ork.
If your BIG Button + is connected to a PBX (s itchboard),
you may have to dial an access number before 999 to
contact the emergency services.

The follo ing points should be considered:
Situate your product close enough to the telephone socket
so that the cable ill reach.
Do not stand it on carpets or other similar surfaces that
generate fibres as this may reduce the ringing sound and
clog inside mechanisms.
Your BIG Button + can be positioned in three alternative
ays:
Flat on a table surface.
Raised position on a table surface (using plinth).
Wall-mounted. See ‘Wall-mounting’ on page 31.
Warning
Your BIG Button + is only designed to be operated in a
normal domestic or office environment. It should not be used
in bathrooms or near water.

ready for use

Please note you ill require 2 x AAA batteries to benefit
from the BT Ans er 1571/Call Minder message aiting
indication. These are not included.
Lift the battery cover and insert the batteries as sho n.
1Insert the atteries
Note
Batteries are only required if you want to use the 57
feature.
You will still be able to make and receive calls via the
handset without batteries fitted. However, the message
waiting indicator will not function.

2Plug your BIG Button + into the
telephone socket
If you do not have a modern style socket, call BT on
Freefone 0800 800 150 and ask for a BT engineer to come
and fit the correct socket.
This may be a chargeable service.
Battery low indicator
The batteries power the Message Waiting Indicator lamp.
The normal flash rate when messages are waiting is every
2 seconds. When the batteries are running low and a message
is waiting, the flash rate slows to once every 6 seconds.

3Ringer volume
The s itch is found on the base of your phone.
Set the volume of the ringer to Either High, Lo or Off.
Note
If the ringer is set to off, the call indicator light will still flash
to indicate someone is calling you.

4Ringer tone select
The s itch is found on the base of your phone.
This s itch allo s you to select the pitch required for
the ringer.
R1: For a lo pitched tone.
R2: For a medium pitched tone.
R3: For a high pitched tone.

5Amplify selection
The s itch is found on the base of your phone.
Choose bet een either incoming or outgoing settings.
Incoming makes the caller’s voice louder. Outgoing makes
your voice louder at the other end of the call.
Note
When the Amplify button is used it will increase the volume
of all sounds that enter the microphone, so if you can, reduce
any background noise whenever you use this feature.

6Time Break Recall and Earth
Recall selection
The s itch is found on the base of your phone.
Your phone ill already be set to TB. If you are a
residential customer this ill help you to use some Net ork
Services such as Call Waiting, as long as you subscribe to
this service.
If you are using your BIG Button + on a s itchboard you
may need to move this s itch to TE to transfer calls.
Call BT on Freefone 0800 800 150 for details.
Your BIG Button + is now ready for use.

To make a call
Lift the handset and listen for a dialling tone.
Dial the number you require.
To end the call, replace the handset.
Using your BIG Button +
earing Aid compatibility
As this telephone is fitted with an Inductive
Coupler, hearing aid wearers may benefit from
switching their hearing aid to the middle ‘T’
position and holding the earpiece up to the aid,
not their ear.
Making and receiving calls

To receive a call
When the phone rings the call indicator light ill
also flash to indicate that there is an incoming
call. Simply pick up the handset and speak.
To switch secrecy on and off
During a call, press and release the SECRECY
button.
The Secrecy light ill come on to sho that
secrecy is on.
You can no talk to someone in the room
ithout your caller hearing you.
Press and release the SECRECY button again to
return to your caller.

When on a call you can talk to someone in the same room
ithout your caller hearing.

To redial the last num er dialled
Lift the handset.
Press the REDIAL button. The phone ill
automatically redial the last number dialled.

Your BIG Button + has three One-Touch memory
buttons. The middle button is already
programmed to contact BT’s net ork ans ering
services via 1571. See page 25 for more
information.

Over riting the 1571 code stored in the middle
memory button ill allo you to store a number
of your o n choice. To do this, follo the ‘STORE’
instructions belo .
To store numbers in the memory, use the STORE
button. This is located under the memory label
hich is underneath the handset. Push the plastic
cover and label to the left to reveal the STORE
button and instructions.
Lift up the handset.
Push label to the left. Press the STORE button.
Press the One-Touch memory button under hich
you ish to store the number.
Enter the number you ish to store.
Press the STORE button again.
The phone number is no stored. Replace the
handset.
Note
You can store a phone number under each
of these buttons and dial the number by pressing
just the one button.
