3 Getting started
Inserting the batteries
nPlease note
Your BT Duet 60 is not supplied with batteries. However, you
will require batteries to be able to use the Caller Display feature
onyour phone.
1. Lift off the battery compartment cover by pulling
back the plastic latch.
2. Insert 3 x AA alkaline batteries (not supplied)
according to the polarity markings inside the
battery compartment.
3. Replace the battery cover.
nBattery low
When the batteries are low and need replacing, the icon
will be displayed.
nRemoving the batteries
If you ever need to remove the batteries, lift off the battery
compartment cover by pulling back the plastic catch.
Insert your fingernail under the end of the batteries to pull
them out.
nWARNING
When replacing the batteries you must install 3 x new AA
alkaline batteries within 1 minute of removing the old batteries
or you risk losing all your Caller Display and memory information.
Connecting the handset and line cords
1. Plug one end of the handset cord into the handset
socket and the other end into the socket at the
end of the base.
2. Plug the telephone line cord into the socket on the
bottom of the base. Plug the other end into the
telephone wall socket.
nTouse the phone on a desk
Thread the telephone line cord through the groove toward the
back of the base.

4 Getting started
Setting the display contrast
There are 4 display contrast settings to choose from.
The default setting is 2.
nThe contrast can be re-adjusted at a later stage by repeating
these steps.
1. Press and hold for 4 seconds.
The display shows
LCD CONTRAST .
2. Press to decrease or to increase the
contrast level.
3. Press to confirm. The display now prompts
you to set the time and date…
Setting the time and date
nAuto-set time and date
If you have already subscribed to a Caller Display service, the time
and date will be automatically set when you receive your first call.
1. The current hour flashes in the display. Use
and to set the correct hour, then press
to confirm.
2. Now use and to set the correct minute,
and press to confirm.
3. Use and again to set the correct month,
then press .
4. And finally, use and to set the correct
day, and press to confirm.
The display returns to idle and the correct time
and date is shown.
Your BT Duet 60 is now ready for use.

Make a call
1. Lift the handset and wait for the dial tone.
2. Enter the telephone number you want.
The number is shown in the display on the back
of the handset and dialled.
End a call
1. Replace the handset to end a call.
Or
Press the hook switch to make a follow on call.
Receive a call
1. When you receive a call, the phone will ring and
the red Calls light will flash.
2. Pick up the handset to answer the call.
Redial
1. Press . The last number called is
automatically redialled.
Secrecy
1. During a call,press and hold .Your caller can
no longer hear you.
2. Release to resume your call.
Ringer volume
1. Adjust the switch to your preferred volume, High,
Low or Off (if you do not want to be disturbed).
Earpiece/Receiver volume
1. Adjust the switch on the side of the handset to
your preferred listening level, Normal or High.

alert you.
1. Press to put your current call on hold and
accept the waiting call.
2. Press again to alternate between the
two calls.
1571 Message Waiting
nPlease note
To use this feature you must subscribe to BT Answer 1571 from
your network provider.
If a caller is trying to get through and the line is
busy, their call will be forwarded to a mail box
where they can leave a message. The 1571
Message Waiting indicator will then flash to alert
you to the waiting message(s).
To access your message(s):
1. Press . Your call will be put through to the
mailbox and your message(s) played back to you
via the handset earpiece.
2. Replace the handset to end the call. After a few
seconds the 1571 light will stop flashing.

9 Memory
Storing memory numbers
You can store up to 13 numbers in your phone’s
memory for quick and easy dialling. 3 numbers
can be stored in the one-touch memory and 10
numbers in the quickdial memory. Stored numbers
can be up to 16 digits.
1. Pick up the handset and press .
2. Enter the telephone number you want to store.
The number is shown on the display on the back of
the handset for checking.
nOnly the last 13 digits of the telephone number will be displayed.
3. Press . The MEM icon is displayed.
4. To store a number in the one-touch memories,
press either , or .
Or
To store a number in the quickdial memory, enter
amemory location from to .
The number is stored automatically.
Dialling memory numbers
1. Pick up the handset.
2. Press the relevant one-touch button ( ,
or ).
Or, to dial a quickdial memory number:
Press ,then enter the memory location
( – ).
The number will be dialled automatically.

nIMPORTANT
Touse Caller Display you must first subscribe to the service from
your network provider. A quarterly fee is payable.
For more information on BT’s Calling Features, call BT on
Freefone 0800 800 150.
Caller Display
If you subscribe to a Caller Display service you can
see your caller’s number on your handset’s display
before you answer the call.
nCaller information not available
Occasionally the telephone number of the caller is not available
and cannot therefore be displayed.
In this case, your display will show one of the following
explanatory messages:
NO NUMBER WITHHELD UNAVAILABLE
Calls list
Whether you answer a call or not, the caller’s
phone number is stored in the calls list. Up to 60
numbers can be stored and when the calls list is
full, a new call replaces the oldest. Each stored
number can be up to 14 digits long.
When you have new entries in the calls list the
icon will be displayed and the New Call
indicator will flash green.
The Calls counter displays the total number of
stored calls as well as the number of new calls.
View calls list numbers
1. Press or repeatedly to open the calls list
and then scroll through the entries. For each entry,
the caller’s number and date and time of call are
displayed.
nIf the icon is displayed, you have received multiple new
calls from the same number. The number will only appear once
in the calls list, with the most recent call date and time.
When all new calls have been viewed END OF LIST
will be displayed, the New Call indicator will stop
flashing and the icon will disappear.

2. Once you have viewed all new calls, press to
review the most recent calls and to review the
oldest calls. When you have viewed all calls,
END
OF LIST
will be displayed.
nIf no button is pressed for 20 seconds, the display will return to idle.
Dial a calls list number
1. Press or repeatedly to open the calls list,
then scroll to the entry you want.
2. Press to dial the displayed number.
LIFT HANDSET
is displayed. Lift the handset to place your call.
Or
1. Lift the handset and press or repeatedly to
open the calls list, then scroll to the entry you want.
2. Press to dial the number.
Delete a calls list number
1. Press or repeatedly to open the calls list
and then scroll to the entry you want.
2. Press twice quickly to delete the displayed
number. The number is automatically deleted and
the next calls list number is displayed.
Delete all calls list numbers
1. Press and hold for 2 seconds.
DELETE ALL is displayed.
2. Press to confirm. The display shows
NO CALLS .
nCalls must be viewed before they can be deleted.
Copy a calls list number to the quickdial memory
1. Press or repeatedly to open the calls list
and then scroll to the entry you want.
2. Press twice to enter the quickdial memory.
STORE and the MEM icon are displayed.
3. Enter a memory location from to .
The number is stored automatically and the
display returns to idle.

nUse only approved AA alkaline batteries.
Using other battery types could destroy the
battery casing.
nNever dispose of batteries in a fire. There is a
serious risk of explosion and/or the release of
hazardous chemicals.
nClean the phone with a damp (not wet) cloth, or
an anti-static wipe. Never use household polish as
this will damage the product. Never use a dry cloth
as this may cause a static shock.
nDo not expose to direct sunlight.
nDo not stand your product on carpets or other
surfaces which generate fibres, or place it in
locations preventing the free flow of air over
its surfaces.
nDo not submerge any part of your product in
water and do not use it in damp conditions, such
as bathrooms.
nDo not expose your product to fire, explosive or
other hazardous conditions.

Your BT Duet 60 telephone is guaranteed for a
period of 12 months from the date of purchase.
Subject to the terms listed below, the guarantee will
provide for the repair of, or at BT’s or its agent’s
discretion the option to replace the BT Duet 60, or
any component thereof, (other than batteries),
which is identified as faulty or below standard, or as
aresult of inferior workmanship or materials.

13 General information
Products over 28 days old from the date of
purchase may be replaced with a refurbished or
repaired product.
The conditions of this guarantee are:
nThe guarantee shall only apply to defects that
occur within the 12 month guarantee period.
nProof of purchase is required.
nThe equipment is returned to BT or its agent
as instructed.
nThis guarantee does not cover any faults or
defects caused by accidents, misuse, fair wear and
tear, neglect, tampering with the equipment, or
any attempt at adjustment or repair other than
through approved agents.
nThis guarantee does not affect your statutory rights.
Outside of the 12 month guarantee period:
If your product needs repair after the guarantee
period has ended, the repair must meet the
approval requirements for connection to the
telephone network. Werecommend that you
contact BT’s approved repair agent, Helpdesk
Solutions on 0870 240 5029 or a local qualified
repairer.
Returning your phone
Where possible, pack the product in its original
packaging. Please remember to include all parts,
including the line cords. (Please note that we
cannot take responsibility for goods damaged in
transit.) Please obtain and keep proof of posting.

14 Technical information
How many telephones can you have?
All items of telephone equipment have a Ringer
Equivalence Number (REN), which is used to
calculate the number of items which may be
connected to any other telephone line. Your BT
Duet 60 has a REN of 1. A total REN of 4 is
allowed. If the total REN of 4 is exceeded, the
telephone may not ring. With different telephone
types there is no guarantee of ringing, even when
the REN is less than 4.
R&TTE
This product is intended for use within the UK for
connection to the public telephone network and
compatible switchboards.
This equipment complies with the essential
requirements for the Radio Equipment and
Telecommunications Terminal Equipment Directive
1999/5/EC.
Declaration of Conformance
Hereby, PDT, declares that this BT Duet 60 is in
compliance with the essential requirements and

Switchboard compatibility
This product is intended for use within the UK for
connection to public telephone network and
compatible switchboards, which support tone
dialling and timed break recall. If in doubt please
consult your network service provider.

Switchboard external line
access code
You may need to enter an access code (e.g. 9) in
order to get an outside line. So that the switchboard
has time to pick up an outside line, you may also
need to add a pause after the access code. A pause
lasts 4 seconds.
To insert a pause
1. Begin storing/dialling a number and press
where a pause is required.
nPause
You may also need to insert a pause when dialling international
numbers, charge card numbers and with other tele-banking facilities.
Recall
The button is used when connected to
certain switchboards, e.g. to transfer calls, and for
some BTCalling Features or those services available
via your network provider.
Wall mounting your phone
1. Drill two holes in the wall 133mm vertically apart.
2. Insert the screws (using wall plugs if necessary, not
supplied). Leave approx. 5mm of the screw head
protruding from the wall on which to mount the base.
3. Slide out the handset hook on the base, rotate it
180º and replace it. The handset will rest on the
hook when wall mounted.
