1 System Description
The system consists of instrument, calibration and test tiles and software for data transfer
and analysis.
• Connect instrument (1) with PC via USB cable (2).
• When connecting for the first time, instrument is automatically turned on.
• The battery pack (1) in the instrument is automatically charged.
• If instrument has switched off, turn it on by pressing the Operate button.
• Download and install smart-chart software (3).

2 Software Installation
1. Download zip-file from:
https://www.byk-instruments.com/spectro2profiler
2. Save the file into a new folder and extract the complete archive.
3. Right mouse click on “install.exe” and select option “Run as administrator”.
4. Follow the setup instructions on the screen.
The software includes two packages:
•smart-lab for online measurements and memory transfer to PC
•smart-process for standardized quality control in the production
NOTICE
After installation smart-lab and smart-process can be used for 30 days free trial. There-
after, you need to register one of the packages.

4 Measurement Parameters
Go to Configuration > Measurement Parameters.
2D/3D Settings: Select algorithm to be
used - Leather-Like, Leather-Inverted,
Coarse Paint, Fine. Details see separate
Glossary.
Gloss: Turn gloss measurement and / or
difference measurement for gloss on or
off.
2D/3D Scales: Select scales to be measured
for 2D reflectivity and 3D structure ana-
lysis.
Illumination: Select standard illuminant.
Default is D65.
Color System: Select color system. Default
is CIE L*a*b*.
Observer: Select standard observer. De-
fault is 10°.
Color Equation: Select color equation.
Default is Δ E*.
Statistics: Define number of readings (n),
statistical values to be displayed and activ-
ate / deactivate the option Statistic fixed
(not more readings than (n) are possible).
Measurement Screen: Select the values
to be displayed after a measurement. De-
fault is Δ SMP (difference sample to stand-
ard).
Always use autostandard: Search for
nearest standard is always active.
Color Indices: Select color indices. Default
is none.
Always continue last test series: Latest
series is opened automatically to add new
measurement data.

5 Instrument Calibration
The instrument comes with a calibration standard and test standard for color and gloss.
Each tile has a dedicated serial number matching your instrument. Use these tiles to mon-
itor the performance of your instrument. The instrument will guide you through the pro-
cedure.
1. Place standards and instrument on a stable base.
2. Select Configuration > Calibration > Perform diagnosis.
3. Place instrument on green color test standard and keep it steady.
4. Confirm with checkmark or press button Operate.
5. If diagnosis passes, repeat with black gloss test standard.
6. If diagnosis passes, instrument can be used to measure.
7. If diagnosis fails, clean standard and repeat procedure.
8. If diagnosis fails, click on Calibrate and follow instructions.
When the auto diagnosis interval has expired (after 4 weeks), the instrument displays a
message when it is switched on.
NOTICE
To monitor your test equipment: Tap on Add to standard list to store it as a test stand-
ard in the instrument memory und measure it in regular intervals.

6 Difference Measurement
Search for matching standards, create new standards and compare samples to existing
standards. Results are automatically saved.

1. Select existing standard from list (1) or add a new standard.
2. To add a new standard, tap on + symbol (2).
3. Place instrument on standard.
4. To activate camera, press Operate button halfway.
5. Tap on Measure (3) or press Operate button all way through.

Take measurements without comparison to a standard. Results are automatically saved.
1. Place instrument on 1st sample.
2. Click on Measure or press Operate button.
3. Sample is measured and automatically saved.
4. Scroll down to see data table and statistics.
5. When number of readings per sample is reached, proceed with next sample.
Compare a standard with one or more samples without saving for a quick evaluation.
1. Place instrument on standard and measure it.
2. Continue with Next, place instrument on 1st sample and measure it.
3. Scroll down to see data table and statistics.
4. Continue with Next, place instrument on 2nd sample and measure it.

1 Systembeschreibung
Das System besteht aus Messgerät, Kalibrier- und Test-Standards und Software für Daten-
transfer und -analyse.
• Gerät (1) über das USB-Kabel mit dem PC verbinden (2).
• Mit dem erstmaligen Verbinden schaltet sich das Gerät automatisch ein.
• Die Li-Ionen-Batterie im Gerät (1) wird automatisch aufgeladen (2).
• Falls sich das Gerät abgeschaltet hat, kann es mit der Taste Operate eingeschaltet
werden.
• Software smart-chart herunterladen und installieren (3).

2 Software Installation
1. ZIP-Datei herunterladen von:
https://www.byk-instruments.com/spectro2profiler
2. Datei in einem neuen Ordner speichern und das ZIP-Archiv komplett entpacken.
3. Mit der rechten Maus-Taste auf “install.exe” klicken und die Option “Als Adminis-
trator ausführen” wählen.
4. Den Installationsanweisungen auf dem Bildschirm folgen.
Die Software umfasst zwei Pakete:
•smart-lab für Online-Messungen und Datenübertragung zum PC
•smart-process für standardisierte Qualitätskontrollen in der Produktion
HINWEIS:
Nach erfolgter Installation können smart-lab und smart-process zum freien Test 30 Ta-
ge lang verwendet werden. Danach muss eines der beiden Software-Pakete registriert
werden.

Messung wählen - Leather-Like, Leather-

Glanz: Glanzmessung und / oder Differenz-
messung für Glanz ein- oder ausschalten.
2D/3D-Skalen: Auswahl der zu messenden
Skalen für die 2D-Reflexion und 3D-Struk-
turanalyse.
Lichtart: Auswahl der Normlichtart. Vor-
eingestellt ist D65.
Farbsystem: Auswahl des Farbsystems.
Voreingestellt ist CIE L*a*b*.
Beobachter: Auswahl des Standardbeob-
achters. Voreingestellt ist 10°.
Differenzmethode: Auswahl der Diffe-
renzmethode. Voreingestellt ist ∆E*.
Statistik: Anzahl der Messwerte (n) und
anzuzeigende statistische Werte festlegen,
Option Statistik fest aktivieren / deaktivie-
ren (nicht mehr Messwerte als (n) sind
möglich).
Messbildschirm: Auswahl der Werte, die
nach einer Messung angezeigt werden sol-
len. Voreingestellt ist ∆SMP (Differenz der
Probe zum Standard).
Immer Autostandard verwenden: Die
Suche nach dem nächstgelegenen Standard
ist stets aktiviert.
Farbindizes: Auswahl der Farbindizes.
Voreingestellt ist Keiner.
Letzte Testserie fortsetzen: Es wird kei-
ne neue Testserie angelegt; die letzte Test-
serie wird automatisch geöffnet.

5 Kalibrierung
Die Lieferung umfasst einen Kalibrierstandard und je einen Teststandard für Farbe und für
Glanz. Jeder Teststandard hat eine Seriennummer, die zum Gerät passt. Mit diesen Kacheln
prüfen, ob das Gerät korrekt misst. Das Gerät führt durch die Prüfung.
1. Standards und Gerät auf einer stabilen Unterlage verwenden.
2. Auf Einstellungen > Kalibrierung > Autodiagnose durchführen tippen.
3. Gerät auf grünen Farbstandard setzen und ruhig halten.
4. Mit Häkchen bestätigen oder Taste Operate drücken.
5. Bei erfolgreicher Diagnose mit schwarzem Glanzstandard fortfahren.
6. Bei erfolgreicher Diagnose Gerät zum Messen verwenden.
7. Schlägt Diagnose fehl, Standard reinigen und Vorgang wiederholen.
8. Schlägt Diagnose fehl, auf Kalibriere tippen und den Anweisungen folgen.
Nach Ablauf des Intervalls der automatischen Diagnose (4 Wochen) zeigt das Gerät beim
Einschalten eine Meldung an.
HINWEIS
Zur Prüfmittelüberwachung: Auf Als Standard hinzufügen tippen, um einen Teststan-
dard im Gerät zu speichern. Diesen Standard in regelmäßigen Intervallen messen.

6 Differenzmessung
Nach passenden Standards suchen, neue Standards anlegen und Proben mit Standards ver-
gleichen. Die Ergebnisse werden automatisch gespeichert.

2. Zum Anlegen eines neuen Standards auf das Plus-Symbol + (2) tippen.
3. Messgerät auf dem Standard positionieren.

5. Auf Messen (3) tippen oder die Taste Operate durchdrücken.
6. Standard wird gemessen und automatisch gespeichert.
