Explanation of Symbols
The following symbols are used throughout this Service Manual.

The following rules apply throughout this Service Manual:
1. Each chapter contains sections explaining the purpose of specic functions and the
relationship between electrical and mechanical systems with reference to the timing of
operation.
In the diagrams, represents the path of mechanical drive; where a signal name
accompanies the symbol, the arrow indicates the direction of the electric signal.
The expression "turn on the power" means ipping on the power switch, closing the front
door, and closing the delivery unit door, which results in supplying the machine with power.
2. In the digital circuits, '1' is used to indicate that the voltage level of a given signal is "High",
while '0' is used to indicate "Low". (The voltage value, however, differs from circuit to
circuit.) In addition, the asterisk (*) as in "DRMD*" indicates that the DRMD signal goes on
when '0'.
In practically all cases, the internal mechanisms of a microprocessor cannot be checked
in the eld. Therefore, the operations of the microprocessors used in the machines are not
discussed: they are explained in terms of from sensors to the input of the DC controller
PCB and from the output of the DC controller PCB to the loads.
The descriptions in this Service Manual are subject to change without notice for product
improvement or other purposes, and major changes will be communicated in the form of
Service Information bulletins.
All service persons are expected to have a good understanding of the contents of this Service
Manual and all relevant Service Information bulletins and be able to identify and isolate faults

Basic Operation
Overview
The paper feeder is optionally installed at bottom of the printer. It picks up and feeds the print
media to the printer. The DC controller in the printer controls the operational sequence of the
paper feeder.

Pickup Feeding Operation
The paper feeder picks up one sheet of print media from the PF cassette and feeds it to the
printer according to the command from the DC controller.

Jam Detection
Overview
In order to detect presence/absence of printed paper, this machine has the sensor for
detecting printed paper shown below.
Jam during pickup/feed from the Paper Feeder is detected by the DC Controller of the printer.
• PF cassette media presence sensor (SR3)
■Pickup delay jam 1
If the registration sensor (SR4) cannot detect the paper leading edge after the image format
starts until the re-pickup is started.
■Pickup stationary jam
If the registration sensor (SR4) cannot detect the paper trailing edge after the re-pickup is
started.

INTRODUCTION:
Points to Note During Disassembly and Assembly
Be sure to pay attention to the below points in performing disassembly and assembly.
1. In performing disassembly and assembly, for safety precaution be sure to disconnect the
power plug.
2. If there is no special instruction, perform the assembling work in the reverse way of
disassembling procedure.
3. In the places where screws, etc. are used, be sure not to install them wrongly (length/
diameter).
4. To ensure electric conduction, binding screw with washer is used for the mounting screws,
e.g. for earth wire or varistor, etc. Be sure to use this screw in performing assembling-
installing.
5. It is a basic rule that machine is not to be operated when parts is in the removed condition.
6. In disassembling, do not remove the paint-locked screw.

Removing the Paper Feeder Pickup Roller
■Procedure
CAUTION:
Be sure not to touch the surface of the Paper Feeder Pickup Roller.
1) Turn ON the power, and open the service mode screen menu.
2) Enter the password and move to the service mode menu.
3) In the service mode menu, execute [FUNCTION GR.] > [FEED ROLLER CHG.].
4) The Pickup Roller rotates to the replacement position.
5) Disconnect the host machine (printer).
6) Remove the cassette.
7) Place the Paper Feeder by placing the Rear Cover [1] down.
8) Remove the 2 Protrusions [2] and Pickup Roller [3].

9) After replacing the Pickup Roller, connect the host machine (printer) and the Paper Feeder.
Then, turn ON the power, and return the Pickup Roller to its original position from the
replacement position.

■Preparation
1) Disconnect the host machine (printer).
2) Remove the cassette.
■Procedure
CAUTION:
• Be sure not to touch the surface of the Paper Feeder Separation Roller and the
Paper Feeder Pickup Roller.
1) Place the Paper Feeder by placing the Rear Cover [1] down.
2) Remove the Separation Roller Cover [2].
