machine.Whenacustomerhasaconcernonhismachineitisusuallybecauseafunctionorsystemonhismachine
isnotworkingatall,isnotworkingefciently,orisnotrespondingcorrectlytohiscommands.Whenyourefertothe
technicalinformationinthismanualtoresolvethatcustomersconcern,youwillndalltheinformationclassiedusing
thenewICEcoding,accordingtothefunctionsorsystemsonthatmachine.Onceyouhavelocatedthetechnical
informationforthatfunctionorsystemthenyouwillndallthemechanical,electricalorhydraulicdevices,compo-
nents,assembliesandsub-assembliesforthatfunctionorsystem.Youwillalsondallthetypesofinformationthat

1.Fastenersshouldbereplacedwiththesameorhighergrade.Ifhighergradefastenersareused,theseshould
onlybetightenedtothestrengthoftheoriginal.
2.Makesurethefastenersthreadsarecleanandthatthreadengagementisstarted.Thiswillpreventthemfrom
failingwhenbeingtightened.
3.Tightenplasticinsertorcrimpedsteel-typelocknutstoapproximately50%ofthedrytorque,appliedtothenut,
nottothebolthead.Tightentoothedorserrated-typelocknutstothefulltorquevalue.
4.TheL9(Alloy)fastenerstorquevaluesareforabolt,nut,andtwowashers.
WhenusingL9(Alloy)fasteners,donotusethevaluesinthistablefortappedholes.

(B)Whenyoudisassembleacomponent.
(C)Fromnormalwearofthehydrauliccomponents.
(D)Fromdamagedorwornseals.
(E)Fromadamagedcomponentinthehydraulicsystem.
Allhydraulicsystemsoperatewithsomecontamination.Thedesignofthecomponentsinthishydraulicsystemper-
mitsefcientoperationwithasmallamountofcontamination.Anincreaseinthisamountofcontaminationcancause
problemsinthehydraulicsystem.Thefollowinglistincludessomeoftheseproblems.
(A)Cylinderrodsealsleak.
(B)Controlvalvespoolsdonotreturntoneutral.
(C)Movementofcontrolvalvespoolsisdifcult.
(D)Hydraulicoilbecomestoohot.

ination,microscopicandvisible.
Microscopiccontaminationoccurswhenveryneparticlesofforeignmaterialareinsuspensioninthehydraulicoil.
Theseparticlesaretoosmalltoseeorfeel.Microscopiccontaminationcanbefoundbyidenticationofthefollowing
problemsorbytestinginalaboratory.Examplesoftheproblems:
(A)Cylinderrodsealleak.
(B)ControlvalvespoolsdonotreturntoNEUTRAL.
(C)Thehydraulicsystemhasahighoperatingtemperature.
Visiblecontaminationisforeignmaterialthatcanbefoundbysight,touch,orodor.Visiblecontaminationcancause
asuddenfailureofcomponents.Examplesofvisiblecontamination:
(A)Particlesofmetalordirtintheoil.
(B)Airintheoil.
