ENBEFORE INSTALLATION AND USE READ THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY. THE MANUFACTURER DECLINES ALL RESPONSA-
BILITY IN THE EVENT OF ACCIDENT OR DAMAGE DUE TO NEGLIGENCE OR FAILURE TO OBSERVE THE INSTRUCTIONS DESCRIBED IN
THIS MANUAL OR IN CONDITIONS THAT DIFFER FROM THOSE INDICATED ON THE DEVICE.
1 OPERATION
SPEEDMATIC SET ALT is a compact automatic control device ( see g.7) designed for the automation of pressure
groups with 2 pumps, with an electronic system managed by a software responding to the rigorous requirements
of efciency and safety of the most important builders of pumps. It includes a frequency inverter for the main pump
control regulating the speed in order to keep constant the pressure independently of the ow given, the auxiliary
pump is managed by mean of power relay.
There is alternated operating sequence, these means that the pump managed by the inverter is changed in each
operating cycle and it is always the rst to start.
The system incorporates a LCD screen where the parameters conguration is very easy and intuitive. Once the con-
guration parameters are introduced, the SPEEDMATIC SET ALT manages the start-up of the different system pumps
and the frequency inverter. It assures a constant pressure and an important costs reduction because at any time the
control will feed the system with the right and necessary output, obtaining a maximum energetic efciency. In order
to establish the ideal pressure in the installation is suitable to consider following criteria:
Hm: Max. water column height in m. It depends on the number of oors and it corresponds to the height from
the pump to the last oor. Every 10 m of height corresponds approximately to 1 bar (0.98 bar).
Pw: Available minimum pressure in last oor (usually 1.5 bar).
Pc: Pressure drop. It can be considered with a simplied criteria as 0.033 bar/m.
Prmin: Minimum resultant pressure. It is the sum of the previous pressures and it will be the starting pressure of the
pumps.
Example for a 5 oors building (15 m) with pumps placed at level 0:
Hm =15 m = 1.5 bar Pw = 1,5 bar Pc=15 x 0,033 bar = 0,5 bar Prmin = 1,5 + 1,5 + 0,5 = 3,5 bar
Once has been dened the optimal pressure in the installation, the group must be sized to provide the necessary
ow using the appropriate coefcients of simultaneity. During this process the following errors are common:
• Under-sizing the group: all the pumps are operating at full speed, without modulation.
• The ratio FLOW/PRESSURE10% is identical to which is able to provide the main pump: in applications with regular
consumption during long periods of time - it is not the case of a block of houses where the consumption is
oscillating - we nd an equilibrium where the main pump by itself cannot satisfy the ow and pressure exigen-
cies, but, when starting the auxiliary pump, the main pump decreases its speed below the recommendable
limit, in consequence the system has constant operating rotations. In systems of oscillating consumptions this
equilibrium point does not suppose any problem, but in regular consumptions during long periods of time, this
phenomenon must be avoided because the lifespan of the pumps will fall.
2 CLASSIFICATION AND TYPE
According to EN-60730-1 the SPEEDMATIC SET ALT is a device of independent assembly, type 1B with software of class A.
3 MAIN CHARACTERISTICS
• DN inlet and outlet port G1 ¼” male ISO 228.
• Frequency inverter for the main pump control.
• Power relay for the auxiliary pump control.
• Alternated operating sequence of the pumps.
• Control and safety system against over-loads.
• Control and safety system against dry-run operation.
• ART function (Automatic Reset Test). If the device has been stopped due to the action of the safety system
against over-intensities, the ART tries to connect the group, with a programmed periodicity because the water
supply could have been restored.
• Automatic restore system after an interruption of power supply. System is activated in AUTOMATIC mode kee-
ping the conguration parameters ( see “CONFIGURATION” chapter).
• Volt-free contact for monitoring the alarms displayed in screen originated by irregularities or problems of the
system.
• Connections for detection of minimum water level in aspiration tank. This system is independent of the safety
against dry-run operation. Is optional.
• Inside pressure transducer.
• Control panel (Fig.6)
• LCD screen, for alarm menu with permanent pressure indication.
• START/STOP push-button to act by hand each one of the pumps.
• AUTOMATIC push-button with LED light.
• Keyboard for the access to programming menu.
• Digital gauge.
• Register of operational controls. Information about: operating hours, counter of starts, counter of connections
to the power supply.
• Register of alarms. Information about type and number of alarms since the starting up of the device.
