- As soon as the pre-discharge has been completed the
charger will automatically switch to charging mode (con-
tinuous green LED light).
- When all batteries are fully charged, the charger will
switch to a pulsed trickle charge (green LED flashes).
Any dicharge is prevented by maintaining the trickle
charge. The batteries can remain in the charger and are
ready for use as and when required.
Procedure for charging without pre-discharge:
- Plug the charger into a 230 V socket outlet.
- Insert the batteries into the charger, ensuring the cor-
rect polarity. The battery´s condition of charge or its
capacity are irrelevant. No contact will be made if polari-
ty is reversed, because the charger has mechanical anti-
polarity protection. The charging procedure commences
immediately (continous green LED).
- When all batteries have been fully charged the charger
will automatically switch to pulsed trickle charge 3)
(green LED flashing). Any battery discharge is prevented
by this trickle charge. The batteries can remain in the
charger and are ready for use as and when required.
Procedure for selection, if batteries are severely
discharged or short-circulted:
The fast charger Ultra Quick plus gives you the oppor-
tunity to have your batteries checked. The batteries are
checked by inserting one battery at a time into the char-
ger.
For batteries of less than 0.3 V, the charger switches to
the pulsed trickle charge and this pulsed current increa-
ses the voltage of the battery. After a few minutes a bat-
tery voltage will reach 1 V and the charger automatically
switches to fast charging. If after 5 minutes switching to
fast charge has not ocoured, the battery is either
a) short circuited (battery being exhausted). In this case
the battery is defect and of no further use or
b) not yet activated (batteries, which have never been
charged before). By inserting a fully charged battery, the
activating procedure will commence and will take maxi-
mum 5 seconds before switching to the fast charge
cycle. If after 5 seconds, no fast charge commences, the
battery is faulty and should immediately be removed
from the charger to prevent any damage to the second
battery.
1) Memory effect: In order to ensure full capacity bat-
teries should - at regular intervals - be discharged befo-
re charging commences. Partial discharge will result in
memory effect, the capacity is reduced.
2) Refreshing: Batteries, damaged by memory effect,
can be „refreshed“ to their full capacity by repeated
discharge/charge action.
3) Trickle charge: The impulsed trickle charge prevents
any self discharge of batteries.
Instructions for use:
Remember, any interruption in the charging process,
such as disconnection from the mains socket or removal
of the battery, will result in resetting the charging pro-
gram. For this reason, leave batteries in the connected
charger until required.
It is essential to discharge/charge batteries before using
them for the first time or after they have been stored for
a longer period. In some cases it may be necessary to
carry out the charging process twice in order to return
the batteries to full capacity.
The contact surface of the batteries and of the charger
must always be kept clean.
An authorized dealer is to be contacted at once in case
of any damage.
Protect the unit against oil, grease, aggressive deter-
gents and solvents as unit may be destroyed.
The charger is to be used indoor only.
Following a drop or if mains pins are affected the unit has
to be checked immediately by an authorized dealer.
By purchasing the charger Ultra Quick plus you have
made a very good choice. Thank you.
The Ultra Quick plus offers you the opportunity to char-
ge 1 to 4 NiCd and/or NiMH batteries Mignon, AA-size, all
common capacities, see charging table). It is possible to
charge different size batteries simultaneously. Depen-
ding on the capacity the charge time is from 1 hour.
Pre-discharge should be carried out before charging
commences to prevent any „memory effect“ 1).
Damaged batteries can be refreshed 2) by repeated
charge/discharge operation.
Attention!
You can charge only rechargeable batteries - no dry bat-
teries - danger of explosion! NiCd- and NiMH-batteries
are marked as such and have the inscription "wiederauf-
ladbar" or "rechargeable".
Procedure for charging with pre-discharge:
- Insert the batteries with the correct polarity into the
recesses, ignoring their charge condition or capacity. If
polarity is not correct, a mechanical protection device
will prevent operation.
- Plug the charger into a 230 V socket. Batteries which
are not fully discharged, will now be discharged automa-
tically to approx. 1 V. During this procedure the red LED
will light up.
