1. Purpose
This instruction sheet describes the procedure to install the IBS-8431.
2. Cautions and Warnings
The following are specific Cautions and Warnings that must be followed when installing or
operating equipment.
Please read all instructions before attempting to install any equipment. Failure to follow
directions can cause bodily injury and/or damage to the equipment.
Ensure that precautionary measures are employed to prevent applying power to
equipment at any time maintenance work is in progress.
Do not make any unauthorized alterations to equipment or components. Changes or
modifications not expressly approved by Cooper Notification can result in damage to the
equipment and will void the warranty.
When working near electricity do not use metal rules, flashlights, metallic pencils, or
any other object having exposed conducting material.
Ensure all electrical connections are secure before applying power to a unit. Failure to
secure connections may cause an electrical arc resulting in physical shock or damage to
the equipment.
When possible, avoid installing equipment during severe or wet conditions. Handling
equipment with wet hands may cause slippage resulting in bodily injury and/or damage
to equipment.
Ensure the area is well ventilated when using cleaning, gasoline, and oil products. Avoid
prolonged breathing of fumes, which may cause physical harm.
It is NOT recommended that changes are made to the RSIX Feed, Event, Severity,
Urgency, or Certainty fields. If these settings do not match settings made by the RSAN
Administrator, message execution will fail
Comply with all electrical codes per the local authority having jurisdiction.

3. Introduction
The IBS-8431, running WAVES 8 software, provides an IP based server/client architecture.
The IBS can be configured as a WAVES 8 Server, when configured with a WAVES-HD-
8000 Hard Drive, or a WAVES 8 Command Center; when configured with a WAVES-HD-
8000C Hard Drive (Hard Drives are sold separately).
The IBS-8431 is a self-contained system using a quad-core computer operating on the
Windows 7 Professional Operating System. The IBS-8431 includes an IP Communicator
(IPC), Push-to-Talk microphone, keyboard, mouse, cables and a built-in speaker. The IBS-
8431 can be installed as a desktop system, as shown in Figure 1 (shown with the optional
monitor), or as a rackmount system when used with the optional IBS-RACK-KIT.
4. Requirements
The following items are required for installation of the IBS-8431:
•Integrated Base Station, IBS-8431 including the following:
•IP Communicator (IPC)
•Audio/Data Unit (ADU), Built-In Speaker, Keyboard and Mouse
•Push-to-Talk Microphone with All-Call switch
•WAVES-HD- 8000 or WAVES-HD-8000C Hard Drive (sold separately)
•Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS)
•IBS-UPS-914, 120 VAC or IBS-UPS-915, 230 VAC
•Optional Monitor (sold separately)
•Optional Rackmount Kit IBS-RACK-KIT (sold separately)
•Shelf-mounting rack application; not intended for slide out mounting
•Installation Instructions and Manuals as listed below in Table 1, as required

6. Installing the IBS-8431
Prior to installation, ensure the IBS is positioned in an appropriate location in accordance
with the Site Survey, and can be connected to a dedicatedAC power circuit.
Site selection for the IBS requires careful considerationand should have been detailed in
the site survey design document. Installing the IBS at a different location other than the one
designated in the site survey design, could result in a site redesign.

6.1 Cabling the IBS-8431
Follow the directions below to install the desktop and the rackmount IBS-8431.
The rackmount installation is identical to the desktop with the exception of the
physical mounting into the rack. Refer to the IBS-RACK-KIT Installation
Instructions for additional details.
Refer to Figure 2 and Figure 3 for the IBS-8431 Wiring Diagram and Back Panel
connector locations.
1. Place the IBS-8431 in a suitable location as indicated in the Site Survey and
Design Plan.
2. Connect the (optional) monitor to the IBS-8431:
a. Connect one end of the video cable to the DB15 connector to the back of
the monitor.
b. Connect the other end of the video cable to the DB15 Monitor connector
on the back of the IBS-8431.
3. Plug the connectors for the mouse and the keyboard into their respective ports on
the back of the IBS computer.
4. The microphone has three cable connectors; follow the instructions below for
connecting the microphone:
a. Connect the DB25 end of the CAB-PC-MIC cable to the LPT-1 port on the
back of the computer.
b. Connect the 3-pin XLR cable end to the XLR connector on the back of the
computer.
c. Connect the 1/4” MIC Audio cable into the 1/4” Audio Jack on the back of
the computer.
5. If the Hard Drive was not ordered with the IBS and installed at the factory, insert
the Hard Drive (PN WAVES-HD-XXXX) into the Hard Drive slot located on the
front of the IBS-8431.
6. Using the key provided, lock the removable Hard Drive in place.
Contact your Facility Network Administrator prior to connecting the IBS to the
network; refer to the WAVES Administration Manual if connecting the IBS-8431 to the
facility’s network.
Refer to the WAVES 8 Administrator Manual and the Hard Drive Installation
instructions for configuration of the Hard Drive.

7. POWERING UP THE SYSTEM
During power up of the system, refer to Figure 3 and Figure 4 for the IBS-8431
back and front panel power switch and button. Refer to the Installation Instructions
for installation of the UPS prior to connecting the IBS-8431.
1. Connect the Monitor and IBS-8431 power cables as follows:
a. Connect one end of the monitor power cable to theAC Line In connector
on the back of the (optional) monitor.
b. Connect the other end of the monitor power cable to an AC power source.
c. Connect one end of the IBS-8431 power cable to the AC Line In
connector on the back of the IBS-8431.
d. Connect the other end of the IBS-8431 power cable to a dedicated AC power
source.
2. Toggle the power supply On/Off power switch on the back of the IBS-8431 to the
ON position.
3. Push the POWER button on the front of the (optional) monitor to power
the monitor on.
4. Push the POWER button on the front of the IBS-8431 to start the power-up and
PC boot process.
5. Refer to the WAVES Administrator Manual for configuration instructionsand
operational procedures.
8. OPERATING RESPONSIBILITIES
It is the responsibility of the Installer/Owner of the product to ensure the following:
•The equipment is correctly and safely installed
•When installed, the equipment fully complies with federal, state, and local codes
•Any person operating the equipment has been properly trained
9. FCC INFORMATION
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A digital
device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide
reasonable protection against harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a
commercial environment.This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency
energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instruction manual, may cause
harmful interference to radio communications.Operation of this equipment in a residential
area is likely to cause harmful interference in which case the user will be required to correct
the interference at his/her own expense.
