Introduction
The CEN-SWPOE-24 offers control system networking made easy, providing
Crestron®guaranteed performance and reliability for a complete Ethernet network of
touch screens, keypads, control processors, and other devices in a 2-space rack
mount package. Rear panel connectivity with front panel indicators and controls
provides an ideal form factor for use in a typical 19” equipment rack. Full IEEE
802.3af Power over Ethernet (PoE) is furnished simultaneously across all 24 ports,
providing a centralized power source for numerous PoE powered devices and
eliminating the need for additional power supplies and wiring.
Dual Gigabit Ethernet uplink/stacking ports assure ample bandwidth for the 24
high-speed 10/100BASE-T ports. Its front panel management port enables mirroring
of any rear port for easy monitoring and troubleshooting. Customizable front panel
labeling makes it easy to designate each port with a friendly, descriptive name.
Advanced configuration is enabled through an intuitive Web browser interface.

1. Consideration should be given to the connection of the equipment to the supply circuit and the effect
that overloading of the circuits might have on over current protection and supply wiring. Appropriate
consideration of equipment nameplate ratings should be used when addressing this concern.
2. Reliable earthing of rack-mounted equipment should be maintained. Particular attention should be
given to supply connections other than direct connections to the branch circuit (for example, use of
power strips).
3. If installed in a closed or multi-unit rack assembly, the operating ambient temperature of the rack
environment may be greater than room ambient temperature. Therefore, consideration should be given
to installing the equipment in an environment compatible with the maximum ambient temperature
specified by the manufacturer.
4. Installation of the equipment in a rack should be such that the amount of air flow required for safe
operation of the equipment is not compromised.
5. Mounting of the equipment in the rack should be such that a hazardous condition is not achieved due
to uneven mechanical loading.

Setup
Network Wiring
When wiring the Ethernet network, consider the following:

Use Crestron Certified Wire.
Use Crestron power supplies for Crestron equipment.
Provide sufficient power to the system.
CAUTION: Insufficient power can lead to unpredictable results or damage
to the equipment. Please use the Crestron Power Calculator to help calculate
how much power is needed for the system (www.crestron.com/calculators).
CAT5 Wiring
Category 5 (CAT5) wiring is a twisted pair cable designed for Ethernet networks.
These networks operate at speeds of up to 100 Megabits per second (Mbps) using the
100BASE-T standard. For more information refer to “Appendix: Fast Ethernet and
Gigabit Ethernet” on page 25.
For additional information, refer to the latest version of the Crestron CAT5 Wiring
Reference Guide (Doc. 6137), which is available from the Crestron Web site
(www.crestron.com/manuals).
Installation
Ventilation The CEN-SWPOE-24 should be used in a well-ventilated area. The venting holes
should not be obstructed under any circumstances.
To prevent overheating, do not operate this product in an area that exceeds the
environmental temperature range listed in the table of specifications. Consider using
forced air ventilation and/or incrementing the spacing between units to reduce
overheating. Consideration must be given if installed in a closed or multi-unit rack
assembly since the operating ambient temperature of the environment may be greater
than the room ambient temperature. Contact with thermal insulating materials should
be avoided on all sides of the unit.
NOTE: Installation of the equipment in a rack should be such that the amount of air
flow required for safe operation of the equipment is not compromised.
Rack Mounting The CEN-SWPOE-24 can be mounted in a rack or stacked with other equipment.
Two “ears” are provided with the CEN-SWPOE-24 so that the unit can be rack
mounted. These ears must be installed prior to mounting. Complete the following
procedure to attach the ears to the unit. The only tool required is a #1 or #2 Phillips
screwdriver.

WARNING: To prevent bodily injury when mounting or servicing this unit in a
rack, observe the following guidelines:
• When mounting this unit in a partially filled rack, load the rack from the
bottom to the top with the heaviest component at the bottom of the rack.
• If the rack is provided with stabilizing devices, install the stabilizers before
mounting or servicing the unit in the rack.
NOTE: If rack mounting is not required, rubber feet are provided for tabletop
mounting or stacking. Apply the feet near the corner edges on the underside of the
unit.
NOTE: Reliable earthing of rack-mounted equipment should be maintained.
Particular attention should be given to supply connections other than direct
connections to the branch circuit (for example, use of power strips).
To install the ears:
1. There are screws that secure each side of the CEN-SWPOE-24 top cover.
Using a #1 or #2 Phillips screwdriver, remove the three screws closest to
the front panel from one side of the unit. Refer to the diagram following
step 3 for a detailed view.
2. Position a rack ear so that its mounting holes align with the holes vacated
by the screws in step 1.
3. Secure the ear to the unit with three screws from step 1, as shown in the
following diagram.

4. Repeat procedure (steps 1 through 3) to attach the remaining ear to the
opposite side.

Stacking Four “feet” are provided with the CEN-SWPOE-24 so that if the unit is not rack
mounted, the rubber feet can provide stability when the unit is placed on a flat
surface or stacked. These feet should be attached prior to the hookup procedure.

Make the necessary connections as called out in the illustration that follows this
paragraph. Refer to “Network Wiring” on page 6 before applying power. Apply
power after all connections have been made.
When making connections to the CEN-SWPOE-24, note the following:
• Use Crestron power supplies for Crestron equipment.
• The included cable cannot be extended.

must establish a user account.
The CEN-SWPOE-24 provides a Web-based configuration utility that can be
accessed from a Web browser or from the Crestron Toolbox.
Accessing the Configuration Utility
NOTE: Configuration of the CEN-SWPOE-24 must be performed from a computer
whose IP address is in the same IP subnet. The default configuration of the switch
allows the IP address of the switch to be automatically assigned by a DHCP
(Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server on the local area network.
If a DHCP server does not exist on the network and two minutes have elapsed since
the switch was powered on, the IP address of the switch defaults to 192.168.100.16
and the subnet mask defaults to 255.255.255.0.
The configuration utility can be accessed from a Web browser or from the Crestron
Toolbox:
• The configuration utility can be accessed from a Web browser if the IP
address or host name of the switch is known.
NOTE: The default host name of the switch is “CEN-SWPOE-24.”
• The configuration utility can be accessed from the Crestron Toolbox if the
switch is configured to operate in DHCP mode (default configuration). The
Crestron Toolbox automatically discovers the IP address of the switch. For
additional information, refer to “Using Crestron Toolbox” on page 11.
Using a Web Browser
To access the configuration utility from a Web browser:
1. Start the Web browser.
2. Go to the IP address or host name of the switch.
NOTE: If the default Web management port number of 80 has been
changed, append the port number to the IP address by entering a colon
followed by the new port number. If, for example, the IP address is
192.168.100.16 and the Web management port number has been changed
from 80 to 150, go to http://192.168.100.16:150.
When the user name and password window opens, log in to the switch. For
log-in information, refer to “Logging In to the Switch”, which starts on
page 11.

Using Crestron Toolbox
NOTE: To use Crestron Toolbox to access the configuration utility of the switch,
the Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) Ethernet protocol configuration setting of the
switch must be enabled. The UPnP protocol is enabled by default.
To access the configuration utility from Crestron Toolbox:
1. Open Crestron Toolbox.
2. From the Tools menu, select Device Discovery Tool.
NOTE: Users can also access the Device Discovery Tool by clicking the
Device Discovery Tool icon ( ) in the toolbar.
NOTE: The security software running on the computer may send a
program alert regarding the attempt of Crestron Toolbox to connect to the
network. Allow the connection so that the Device Discovery Tool can be
used.
3. From the device list on the left side of the screen, select the UPnP name of
the switch. The default UPnP name is CEN-SWPOE-24.
4. When the user name and password window opens, log in to the switch. For
log-in information, refer to “Logging In to the Switch” below.

Log in to the switch through the user name and password window.

To log in to the switch:
1. Enter the user name and password. The default user name is admin, and the
default password is admin.
NOTE: The user name and password are case sensitive.
NOTE: For enhanced security, changing the default user name and
password is recommended. For information about changing the user name
and password, refer to “Password” on page 15.
2. Click OK. The home screen of the switch opens, allowing selection of the
desired functions.
Navigating the Configuration Utility
The home menu provides six main selections: Home, Status, General, TCP/IP,
Port, and Port Mirroring. The Status and General selections include the following
subselections.
• The Status selection provides a subselection that allows access to the
System Log and Port.
• The General selection provides subselection for Password, Management,
Time Settings, and Firmware Tools.

Home
The home screen displays system information about the switch. It also contains a
Restart button to restart the switch remotely. The following image shows an example
of a typical system home screen.

The home screen displays the following information:
• Product name: Displays the switch’s name.
• Firmware version: Displays the version of the switch.
• MAC address: A unique address assigned to the switch.
• System up time (hr:min:sec): Length of time the switch has been up.
TCP/IP Settings NOTE: If the “TCP/IP Addressing” screen is set to Obtain from a DHCP
Server, this section states “Get from the DHCP server”. Refer to “TCP/IP”
section on page 21.
• IP address: Displays the IP address assigned to the switch. The default IP
address is 192.168.100.16.
• Subnet mask: Displays the address code that determines the size of the
network.
• Default Gateway: Displays the address of the switch that forwards Internet
traffic from the local area network.
• Host Name: Displays the host name of the switch.

Advanced Settings • Time zone: Displays the time zone setting of the switch.
• Server time (hr:min:sec): Displays the current time on the server.
• SNMP: Displays the SNMP status, either Enabled or Disabled.
• UPNP: Displays the UPNP status, either Enabled or Disabled.
Status
The Status selection displays system log information and the port status of all ports
on the switch. Refer to the sections below for more information.
System Log
To view the system log information, click the Status selection and then click the
System Log subselection. The “System Log” screen opens. The screen can be
viewed for troubleshooting purposes.

To view the configuration of the ports on the switch, click on the Status selection,
and then click on the Port subselection. The following image shows an example of
the “Port Status” screen.

General
The General selection provides four subselections for Password, Management,
Time Settings, Firmware Tools settings.
Password
To configure user name and password settings, click the General selection and then
click the Password subselection. The “Password” screen opens.
“Password” Screen
For security reasons the username and password should be changed for the switch.
Refer to the configuration guidelines that follow when setting up a new username
and password.
NOTE: The user name and password are case sensitive.
Current user: Displays the current username of the switch.
Old password: Enter the old password.
New user name: Enter a new user name.
New password: Enter a new password.
New password again: Re-enter the new password for confirmation of the password.
Enter all information and then press the Save button. A login prompt appears, asking
for the new username and password. Make sure to note the new user name and
password.
Management
To manage the Universal Plug and Play (UPnP), SNMP and Syslog remote logging
configuration settings of the switch, click the General selection and then click the
Management subselection. The “Management” screen opens.

“Management” Screen Example
UPNP To manage the UPnP configuration settings select either of the following from the
drop-down list:
• Enabled: (Default setting) Allows the switch to transmit UPnP broadcast
messages. As a result, the Device Discovery Tool of the Crestron Toolbox
can find the switch on the network.
Device friendly name: (Applicable only when UPnP is enabled) In the text
box, enter a name for the switch to distinguish it from other devices that
appear in the device list of the Device Discovery Tool. The default setting is
CEN-SWPOE-24.
• Disabled: Prevents the switch from transmitting UPnP broadcast messages
and therefore increases device security on an insecure network.
NOTE: Disabling UPnP prevents the Device Discovery Tool of the
Crestron Toolbox from finding the switch on the network. As a result, the
configuration utility of the switch can only be accessed from a Web
browser.
NOTE: Disabling UPnP does not affect communication between Crestron
devices and the control system.
