What CuddeLink Does
Huntersknowtheimportanceandbenefitsofusing
mulpletrailcameras.Butcheckingthesecamerascan
beameconsumingtaskthattakesawayfromhunng
meandpollutestheareawithhumanscent.
Cuddeback’spatentpendingCuddeLinkeliminates
checkingmulplecamerasandulizes1cameraasan
imagedepositoryforupto15remoteCuddeLink
cameras.
CuddeLinkisawirelessnetworkofcamerasthattransmit
theirimagesto1camera.Thedepositorycamerais
calledtheHOMEcamera,andthetransmingcameras
arecalledREMOTEcameras.
Thecamerascanbedeployedinanyarrangementwith
theonlyrequirementbeingthateachcameramustbein
radiocontactwithanothercameraandhavealinkback
toHome.Transmissionrangeishighlyterraindependent,
butinaforestarangeofover1/3mileiscommon,
allowingforanend‐to‐endlinkofover4miles.Inopen
terrainwehavetestedcamera‐to‐cameratransmissionto
over1mile.

More than 16 cameras.AsingleCuddeLinknetworkis

Understanding Transmission Range
TheCLLEVELcommandisasignalstrengthmeteryouuse
toverifyradiorecepon.Therangeis‐‐‐‐to99with
descripvewordstosimplifythemeaning.Asignalof
GOODissufficienttoassureimagetransmission.Itisok
tohaveasignalofPOOR,butwerecommendyoutryto
notusePOORunlessattheendofachain.
WerecommendusingamapbasedGPSoronlineaerial
photostohelpdeploycameras.Amapwillallowyouto
checkdistancebetweencamerasandobserveactual
arrangementofcameras.
Note–GoogleMyMapsisanexcellenttooltomanage
cameralocaon.MyMapsusesaerialphotosandallows
youtoplacepinswherecamerasarelocatedandmeasure

Wehavesuccessfullytestedtransmissiontonearly½mile
inheavyforestandtoover2milesinopenterrain.Trees,
foliage,elevaon,terrain,hills,evenhumiditycanaffect
transmissionrange.Youwillneedtoexperimentanduse
yourGPS,maps,andtheCLLEVELtodetermineopmum
deployment.

only be determined by field deploying cameras.

Network Control – Overview
If you have 8 or less cameras on the network these
seng are probably not important and you can leave
them in the default seng. These sengs may only
need to be adjusted if you are taking more than 500
images per day or your images are taking longer than
desired to get Home.
Thisinformaoncanbeconfusingforfirstmeusers.Youmay
wanttousethedefaultCLDELAYandCLCOUNTsengforthe
firstfewweeksandthenreviewthisseconaeryouhave
spentmeusingCuddeLink.
Background.TheCuddeLinknetwork,likeallwireless
networks,haslimitstohowmuchdatacanbe
transmiedinaspecificamountofme.Thinkofthe
CuddeLinknetworkashighwaywhereonlysomuch
trafficcanpassinagivenamountofmeandthemore
trafficonthehighwaythesloweritmovesandthelonger
ittakestoreachadesnaon.Yourcamerascansendall
theimagestheyrecord,butthiscancreateatrafficjam
ofimagesthatwillrequiremoremetotransferHOME.
Thedailynetworklimitisabout24MB(about1000
images).Ifyoudeploy5camerasthisaveragesto200
imagespercameraperday.For10camerastheaverage
is100imagesperdaypercamera.Actualthroughputwill

Dependingupontheothercamerasonthenetwork,this
couldrequiremanyhoursbeforethenewerimagesare
senthome.However,ifyousetCLCOUNTto50or100,

notgetoverloadedwithexcessiveimages.
Recommendaon –werecommendusingtheformula
1000dividedbythenumberofcameras.Forexample,if
youhave10camerasdeployed,then1000/10=100.Set
CLCOUNTto100onallcameras.Anadvantageofthis
featureisthatyoucanreducetheCLDelaytoaslowas5
secondsandnotbeconcernedthatacamerawill
overloadthenetworkbecauseCLCountwillcontrolthe
numberofimagesqueuedfortransmissionandassure
themostrecentimagesarepriorized.
