1.2 Short description
The spray gun is intended for surface
coating. Compressed air is used to apply
material. The coating material is fed through
lines. The spray gun is handheld.
Gun versions with LP air caps, LC air
caps, LG air caps and LE air caps and
non-adjustable nozzle needles are sup-
plied with a needle packing for materials
that have a low proportion of abrasive
ingredients. These gun versions are here-
after called standard version.
Gun versions with LS air caps and LE air
caps and adjustable nozzle needles are
supplied with a needle packing for mate-
rials that have a high proportion of abra-
sive ingredients (for example enamel,
glaze). These gun versions are hereafter
called ceramic version.
Use a suitable nozzle set with air cap,
depending on the requirement. Ä 6.3
“Selecting air cap”.
The following factors influence the spray jet
and the result:
Alignment of the air cap Ä 6.5 “Alignment
of the air cap”
Material flow Ä 5 “Commissioning”
Air pressure Ä 5 “Commissioning”
Horn air pressure Ä 5 “Commissioning”
The standard version of the spray gun uses
a self-adjusting needle packing. The needle
gland automatically regulates the material-
related wear of the needle gland seal. In
addition, the needle packing can be read-
justed mechanically.

6 Operation
6.1 Safety recommendations
WARNING!
Danger of explosion due to chemical
reactions
Material, halogenated hydrocarbon-based
rinsing agent or cleaning agent can
chemically react with aluminum compo-
nents of the product. Chemical reactions
can cause explosions. Serious injuries
and death can be the consequence.
– Only use rinsing agents and
cleaning agents that do not contain
any halogenated hydrocarbons.
NOTICE!
Material damage due to dried material
residues
If material residues dry in the product,
that can harm components.
– Rinse product immediately after
each use.
6.2 Checks
1. Perform the following checks during oper-
ation:
Check air connection for correct seat
and leaks.
Check air car for cleanliness.
Check nozzle for cleanliness.
6.3 Selecting air cap
You can convert the spray gun for various
uses by swapping the air cap.
Air cap LP
The air cap LP is used for low viscosity (up
to 30 s/DIN cups, 4 mm) solvent-based
coating materials (single 1-component paints
and 2-component paints) and water-based
ones. It is used primarily for the final
painting.
Air cap LC
The air cap LC is used for solvent-based
coating materials (1-component paints and
2-component paints) and water-based ones.
It is used for application of fillers, basecoats
and topcoats. If usied with a hardened
nozzle, coating materials with abrasive addi-
tives (coating materials containing zinc and
aluminum) can be applied.
Air cap LE
The air cap LE is used for solvent-based
coating materials (1-component paints and
2-component paints) and water-based ones,
if higher outflow rates are required. Coating
materials with abrasive additives (coating
materials containing zinc and aluminum,
enamel, glaze) can also be applied.
Operation
12/2016 EcoGun 249 - MSG00014EN 9/40

Air cap LS

the components or the material, compo-
nents get damaged.
– Use only the rinsing agents that are
compatible with the components and
the material.
– Refer to safety data sheet of mate-
rial manufacturer.

7 Cleaning and maintenance
7.1 Safety recommendations
WARNING!
Danger of fire and explosion
Flammable materials can cause a fire or
an explosion.
– Ensure that the flashpoint of the
cleaning agent is at least 5 K above
the ambient temperature.
– Pay attention to the explosion group
of the material, cleaning and rinsing
agent.
– Ensure that technical ventilation and
fire protection equipment are in
operation.
– Do not use any sources of ignition
and no open light.
– Do not smoke.
– Observe the safety data sheets.
WARNING!
Risk of injury from unsuitable replace-
ment parts in explosive areas.
Replacement parts not compliant with
the specifications of the ATEX guide-
lines can cause explosions in an explo-
sive atmosphere. Serious injuries and
death can be the consequence.
– Use exclusively original replacement
parts.
WARNING!
Danger from harmful or irritant sub-
stances
If you come in contact with hazardous liq-
uids or vapors, serious injury or death
can be the consequence.
– Ensure the technical ventilation is
operational.
– Observe the safety data sheets.
– Wear specified protective clothing.
Cleaning and maintenance
12/2016EcoGun 249 - MSG00014EN12/40

WARNING!
Risk of injury due to escaping material
and compressed air
Material can escape with high pressure
and penetrate the body. The injury can
look like a harmless cut wound. Death or
serious injuries may result.
– If there are injuries, seek medical
attention immediately.
Before working on the product:
– Disconnect the system with the
product from compressed air and
material supply.
– Secure the system against recon-
nection.
– Relieve the lines.

chemically react with aluminum compo-
nents of the product. Chemical reactions
can cause explosions. Serious injuries
and death can be the consequence.
– Only use rinsing agents and
cleaning agents that do not contain
any halogenated hydrocarbons.
CAUTION!
Risk of injury due to spring tension
The set screw of the spray gun is under
spring tension. If you remove the set
screw, the spring tension could cause the
set screw to jump out unexpectedly and
cause light injuries.
– Remove and install set screw.
NOTICE!
Material damage due to unsuitable
cleaning agent
Unsuitable cleaning agents can damage
the product.
– Only use suitable cleaning agents
approved by the material manufac-
turer.
– Observe the safety data sheets.
– Place heavily soiled components
into a cleaning bath.
– For cleaning baths, use only elec-
trically non-conductive con-
tainers.
– Do not use ultrasound baths.
Use alcohols (isopropanol, butanol) for
water-based paint.
Remove dried water-based paint residue
using a manufacturer approved thinner.
When cleaning with solvent, do not spray
into a closed container. An explosive gas-
air mixture can form inside closed con-
tainers.
NOTICE!
Damage due to unsuitable cleaning
tools
Unsuitable cleaning tools can damage
the product.
– Only use cloths, soft brushes and
paintbrushes.
– Do not use abrasive cleaning tools.
– Do not poke blocked nozzles with
metallic objects.
