Using the M-Mic USB PRO
After you’ve unpacke the Devine M-Mic USB PRO an the various accessories, it’s
important that you install the microphone onto the inclu e tripo with the help of the shock
mount.
When fol e out, the tripo stan s on three legs fitte with rubber caps to ensure stable
positioning with enough grip to prevent as much (vibrational) noise as possible.
After you’ve set up the tripo , the shock mount can be
easily screwe on via the screw threa .
Next, the microphone itself can be installe in the
shock mount. Make sure to mount the microphone with
the Devine logo facing you an use the silver-coloure
tightening knobs to secure the microphone insi e the
shock mount. Once installe , the setup shoul look the
same as illustrate in the image on the right.
It’s important to note the ollowing:
- Always ensure that the bran logo an mo el number
are facing you, since this guarantees optimal soun
registration.
- Always ensure that one of the tripo legs is facing
you. This stabilises an tilts the microphone forwar
slightly, preventing it from falling over .
- Aim the microphone towar s yourself by slightly tilting
the shock mount an placing the microphone at an
angle so that you can see an rea the bran an
mo el number from your seate position. This way, soun can be optimally capture .
- Always place the microphone an tripo on a flat an stable surface, such as a esk or
table.
Optional:
When installe in the inclu e shock mount, the M-Mic USB PRO can be combine with
professional microphone stan s an /or thir -party broa casting arms as long as these
feature a 3/8” or 5/8” (in ustry stan ar ) screw threa . If nee e , you can use the screw
threa a apter fitte to the tripo .
When using the microphone in combination with a thir -party stan , it’s a visable that you
place it as close to you as possible to achieve optimal results. Again, it’s important that the
bran an mo el number of the microphone remain clearly visible. The microphone can also
be positione upsi e- own if nee e .

Optimal Sound Quality
To ensure optimal soun quality, it’s necessary that the microphone is place as close as
possible to the soun source, unless the source pro uces an extremely high volume level
(e.g. like a rum kit).
When using the microphone to recor vocals or instruments, place the tripo -mounte
microphone irectly in front of the source an on a stable surface such as a esk or table.
By aiming the microphone slightly upwar s (while bran an mo el number remain clearly
visible), you’re ensuring that as much soun as possible is capture .
This is important because the further away a soun source is from the microphone, the less
volume the microphone is able to pick up. This can be compensate for when using the
microphone by increasing the volume output of the soun source.
All au io gear (regar less of bran ) generates a certain level of noise. While this is barely
noticeable uring normal use, the more you amplify the soun , the more noise gets
amplifie as well. When recor ing the amplification of a more quiet soun source or a
source that’s too far away from the microphone, this will lea to unacceptable noise levels.
If you experience any noise issues when recor ing au io, always try to optimise the
positioning of the microphone first. Using a microphone stan or broa casting arm can help
in this regar (neither are inclu e ).
In situations that o not allow for an i eal set-up (e.g. when recor ing the soun s of an
instrument an vocals using the same microphone), it’s best to ‘strike a happy me ium’ by
placing the microphone as close to both soun sources as possible. Experiment by carrying
out a few short test recor ings then compare the results of ifferent setups.
So tware, Compatibility and Support
Devine M-Mic microphones are class compliant, which means that they’re stan ar evices
that generally work on most host evices (such as computers, tablets an smartphones)
without having to install extra rivers or software first. The host evice will recognise the
microphone as a generic USB microphone.
Because the operating systems installe on the above-mentione multime ia host evices
are subject to change ue to regular up ates, compatibility with the latest versions cannot
be 100% guarantee . This also inclu es ol er or out ate versions of operating systems.
Your local retailer is often aware of possible problems an matching solutions that may exist
as a result of using gear in combination with either ol er or newer versions of most well-
known operating systems.
The Devine M-Mic USB PRO microphones o not work when connecte to the following
USB ports:
- USB-ports on Bluetooth multime ia-speakers
- USB-(microphone) ports on PA-mixers

- USB-ports on MP3 mo ules foun on PA mixers, active speakers, DJ mixers, DJ

- USB-battery charger
- USB-ports on car ra ios
In some cases, Devine M-Mic USB PRO microphones will work when connecte to USB
ports fitte to gaming consoles, but consi ering the rapi nature of evelopment in this fiel ,
compatibility cannot be fully guarantee . Please refer to the manual of your gaming console
for more information.
Upgrades (Pop Filter, Windscreen)
The microphone capsule an USB converter fitte to every Devine M-Mic thing, have been
optimise . Since the microphones come with a tripo stan an shock mount inclu e ,
there’s no nee to purchase these accessories separately. As state earlier in this manual,
the microphone can be use with thir -party microphone stan s an arms for enhance
performance an positioning.
Another way to optimise the recor ing of speech an vocals is to use a pop filter/screen.
This is generally a circular frame ma e of metal or plastic fitte with a nylon or metal gauze.
These are place in front of the microphone an may come with a flexible arm for optimal
positioning. A pop filter breaks up the air ispersion cause by plosive soun s (the
pronunciation of letters such as the P, K, S, T an F). Pop filters work best when the
microphone is positione near the mouth of the speaker because this is where the
explosions of air are most powerful.
If you’re recor ing in win y situations, possibly un er a roof out oors, it’s recommen e to
use a win screen. Win screens prevent the unwante noise an re uce recor ing quality
cause by gusts of win blowing past the microphone capsule an housing.
A win screen usually consists of a black cap ma e of breathable foam that breaks up the
flow of air while registering soun s an without losing too much soun quality. Ask your local
retailer for more a vice regar ing compatible win screens.

Troubleshooting
Problem Possible cause Solution
The microphone isn’t
working (on a
computer, tablet, etc)
The evice is not
recognise
Check the system evice manger to
see if the evice is working correctly.
If not, use system software to
remove the evice an re-connect
the evice (via a ifferent USB port,
if possible).
The USB cable isn’t
connecte properly
Check if the USB cable is connecte
properly on both en s an /or try
using a ifferent USB cable. If this
oesn’t help, contact your retailer.
Volume is too low or the
microphone is mute
Check the volume settings an
make sure the evice isn’t mute by
any relevant software or settings on
the host evice
Microphone isn’t
working on a ifferent
evice
The evice is connecte to
an incompatible evice
This microphone is only compatible
with evices that can function as a
USB host, such as computers,
tablets, etc. Connecting the
microphone to a ran om USB port
may result in the microphone not
working properly.
Lots of noise Microphone is too far away
from the source or the
source is not lou enough
Place the microphone closer to the
source so that it is registere with as
much volume as possible. This limits
the amount of gain nee e to bring
the soun to the right level an limits
any subsequent noise.
Unwante ambient
noise
Lou or harsh soun s ‘Harsh’ soun s likes P, T, K, S an F
can cause unwante noise. Use a
pop filter (not inclu e ) to re uce
this effect.
Win an /or ambient noise Use a win -shiel (not inclu e ) to
limit the blee ing of any ambient
noise into the signal of the
microphone.
Microphone keeps
falling over
Unstable positioning Ensure that the microphone is
