2. EQUIPMENT SAFETY
Potential Hazards

Laser Safety Features

Key Switch
The key switch controls the electrical activation of the laser system. Only those authorized personnel who have access to the
key can start the laser system.
Emergency STOP Switch
The emergency STOP switch is a dedicated override switch for immediate emergency shutdown of the laser system.
STANDBY Mode
laser source is switched off. The operator cannot activate the laser beam until the READY key is pressed.
The system goes into STANDBY mode in the following cases:
• After the laser system is initially started.
• When the operator presses any of the laser parameter selection keys.
• When the operator presses the STANDBY key while the laser is in LASER ON mode.
Automatic Shutdown Feature
See “Troubleshooting” section for details about faults.
Remote Control

A coolant circulation system cools the laser tube to prevent overheating. The pump circulates coolant through the laser head
and the water tank. The coolant circulates as long as the laser system is turned on.

The Laser Control Module is the electronic circuitry that controls the following functions:

Changing Handpiece Apertures
The handpiece aperture is easily changed by loosening the clamp nut located toward the distal end of the handpiece barrel
(see Figure 1). Pull the aperture out of the end of the barrel. Slide the new aperture into the distal end of the barrel until it
stops and tighten the clamp nut snug.

5. INSTALLATION
Installation
This section of the manual explains how to install the system.
Installation
Proceed as follows:
1.

2. Do not turn the key to the “I” position.
3. Make sure the emergency switch (see Figure 2) is pulled upwards.
4. Connect the external interlock network to the socket marked “INTERLOCK” (see Figure 2).

Caution!
• The contacts of the “Remote Control” and “FOOTSWITCH” sockets must never be connected to the mains
otherwise the system should be seriously damaged.

7. Connect the mains cable provided with the system to the proper socket located on the bottom rear side of the system.
8. Connect the other side of the mains cable to a wall outlet.
Note!
• Make sure the wall outlet is properly grounded.

Articulated Arm Installation

1. Remove the articulated arm (Figure 3) from its resting position and rotate it clockwise (1).

Note that this connector has a jumper between contacts 1 and 2 (set by factory). Proceed as follows:
1. Remove the jumper between the contacts 1 and 2.
2. Connect these contacts to the external network.
Note that the interlocks must be normally closed in order to let the laser system operate otherwise an INTERLOCK fault is
stated and the system is stopped.
Note!
• No voltage level should be applied to the contacts of the interlock connector.
•

1 – Emission Mode
The CW key ([1] in Figure 6) selects the CONTINUOUS (CW) laser emission mode.
The system operates in Continuous Wave mode with coagulation effect on tissue.
The PW key ([1] in Figure 7) selects the PULSED (PW) laser emission mode.
