Introduction
e-Light 2M is a managed 6x10/100TX plus 2x100FX Industrial ring switch
especially designed for industrial applications. A Web GUI allows the very
easy management of e-light 2M.

Reset-button
With the reset button the switch can fast and easily be reset and restarted and the
configuration can be reset to the default value.
Restart:Keep the button pressed for 2 seconds.
Reset to default value:Keep the button pressed for 5
seconds. The switch resets all configuration to the default
value.
DIP-switch
The switch has got a 9-Dip switchfor the configuration of the operation mode,
the alarm relay and the function of the ring master. The default value of the
switch is OFF.

OFF Alarm of port 1 switched off.
ON Alarm of port 1 active. If the port’s link fails, the
fault LED lights up.

1. If the function „port alarm“ is active, the LED flashes and the alarm relay
signals port errors.
2. Please restart the switch after having set the DIP-switch.
LED Indications
The front panel of the switch contains 5 diagnostic LEDs which offer real
time information on the system. Every port has got 2 status LEDs. The table
below shows each LED status and its meaning.

Ports
RJ-45 Ports
All in all, there are 6 ports with 10/100Mbps. The ports detect the data rate
for 10Base-T or 100Base-TX connections automatically. Auto MDI/MDIX
means that the switch can establish a connection to another switch without
havening to change the direct or cross-over cabling. The table below shows
the pin assignment for direct or cross-over cabling.

[Note] “+” and “-” signs represent the polarity of each wire pair.
All TX-ports of the e-light 2M support the automatic MDI/MDIX
operation.Direct cabling can be used for all network connections to PCs,
servers, other switches or hubs. In direct cablings the pins 1, 2, 3 and 6 at
one end of the cable are directly connected to the pins 1, 2, 3 and 6 at the
other end of the cable.
The table below shows the 10Base-T/100Base-TX MDI and MDIX port
outputs.

There are two 100Base-FX ports which are suitable for multimode (2km) and/or
singlemode (30km) and can have ST, SC, SC-BIDI, SMA, FC-PC, LC and E2000
as connectors with different wavelengths.

Please refer to the scheme below when cabling two fiber optic ports. False
cabling may lead to the port not working properly.
Cabling
Please use twisted-pair cables of the category 5 or higher to connect the
RJ45 port. The electric cable between the switch and the link partner (switch,
hub, workstation etc.) must not be longer than 100 metres.
50/125µm or 62,5/125µm multimode cables must be used for a multimode
fiber optic segment. Thus, two switches can be connected across a distance
of 2km.
9/125µm singlemode cables must be used for a singlemode fiber optic
segment. Thus, two switches can be connected across a distances of up to
30km.
Attention
Do not look into the laser or the LED!

Wiring the power supply
Please connect the power supply to the clamps VDC1 and GND. The redundant
power supply shall be connected to VDC2 and GND.
The terminal block for the power supply is stackable and can be locked with two
screws. Futhermore, both voltage inputs have got a reverse polarity protection.
The voltage range for VDC 1 and VDC 2 is between 12 VDC and 70 VDC..

[Note] Please tighten the screws properly and check the correct holding
of all connections.
[Note] When wiring, please mind the appropriate cable cross-section of
at least 0,5mm² or 12 ~ 24 AWG.

Connecting the differential relay
There is a potential free differential relay contact (semiconductor relay) at the
clamps K1 to K4; K1 and K3 are the common connectors of the relay. If a voltage
breakdown, a RJ45-port error or a fiber optic port error is detected, the differential
relay drops down (K1-K2 closed and K3-K4 opened).

The capacity of the differential relay contact is 25VDC (1A) or 60VDC ( 0,3A)
[Note] When wiring, please mind the appropriate cable cross-section of at
least 0,75mm2orr 12~ 24 AWG.

Mounting on DIN rail
As standard, e-light 2M has got a clip for 35mm DIN rails according to DIN EN 60175.
For mounting the system please engage it onto the rail at the bottom side (see left
picture), press it against the spring force to the top (1) and then towards the mounting
plate (2). The system latches as shown in the picture at the right.
Please refer to the above mentioned steps in reverse order to demount the switch.
As an option, a wall mount kit is also available (art. no. 065065). If the system should
be fixed onto the wall, the clip for DIN rail mount has to be unscrewed first.

Hardware Installation
This paragraph describes how to install the e-light 2M switch:
Procedure:
1. Unpack the switch.
2. Switch the device on. Tips regarding wiring can be found in the paragraph
wiring the power supply. The power LED lights up. Its meaning can be found
in the paragraph LED indications.
3. Prepare the twisted-pair cable (category 5) for the Ethernet connection. .
4. Put one end of the RJ45 cable into the Ethernet port (RJ45) of the switch and
the other end into the Ethernet port of the network device, e.g. the switch, a
PC or a server. The RJ45 port LED lights up when the cable is connected to
the network device. The meaning of the LED signals can be found in the
paragraph LED indications.
5. When all connections are established and the LEDs are flashing
corresponingly, the installation has been completed properly.
