Removethekeyfromtheignitionswitch,engage
parkingbrake,andpullthewire(s)offthespark
plug(s)beforeyoudoanymaintenance.Alsopush
thewire(s)asidesoitdoesnotaccidentallycontact
thesparkplug(s).
Note:Determinetheleftandrightsidesofthemachine
fromthenormaloperatingposition.
Note:Parktheunitonalevelsurface.Makesureallmoving
partshavestopped,parkingbrakeisengaged,thekeyhasbeen
removed,andthesparkplugwirehasbeendisconnected.

InstallingtheMulchKit
Important:ForSerialNumbers790,000andhigher,
multipleaccessoriesaddedtoabaseunitcanchangethe
stabilityofthemachine.Readtheunitoperator’smanual
todetermineifcounterbalanceweightsarenecessaryfor
theaccessoriesinstalledontheunit.
1.Makesureallmovingpartshavestopped,parkingbrake
isengaged,andthekeyhasbeenremoved.
2.Raisethefrontofthemachineandsupportwithjack
stands.
CAUTION
Raisingthemowerdeckforserviceor
maintenancerelyingsolelyonmechanical
orhydraulicjackscouldbedangerous.The
mechanicalorhydraulicjacksmaynotbe
enoughsupportormaymalfunctionallowing
theunittofall,whichcouldcauseinjury.
DoNotrelysolelyonmechanicalorhydraulic
jacksforsupport.Useadequatejackstands
orequivalentsupport.
3.Removetheblades;retainforremovalofthenishcut
kit.
4.Removeandretainthedischargebafeasshownin
Figure3.

1.Holelocation
•Ifthedeckdoesnothaveholes:
Useadrill,orahammerandpunch,removethe
materialfromtheholesinthetopofthedeckand
thetwointhefrontofthedeck.
•Ifthedeckhasholes:
Removeandretainthehardwareintheseholes.
6.Installthemulchingbafes(items1and2)andblocker
bafe(item3).RefertoFigure2andusethehardware
shown.
7.Aligntheholesonthecoverplate(item4)toholeson
therightsideofthedeckandRHmulchbafe(see
Figure2).Installtheboltswiththeheadstotheoutside
ofthedeck.
8.Installnewmulchingblades(item5)inplaceofthe
existingblades.
•ForSerialNumbers600,000andHigher,torqueto
55-60ft-lb(75-81N-m).
•ForSerialNumbers599,999andLower,torqueto
115-120ft-lb(156-163N-m).
Note:Iftheblademountswithanon-captivespring
discwasher,makesuretoorientitwiththecone
towardsthebolthead(seeFigure5).

WARNING
Incorrectinstallationofthebladeor
componentsusedtoretainthebladecan
bedangerous.Failuretousealloriginal
componentsandassembledasshowncould
allowabladeorbladecomponenttobethrown
outfromunderthedeckresultinginserious
personalinjuryordeath.
AlwaysinstalltheoriginalExmarkblades
andbladeretaininghardwareasshowninthe
Operator’smanual.
9.Installhardwarebackintotheholeinthetopofthe
deckwherethedischargebafewasremoved.For
Lazer,LazerXP ,andLazerXSunitsSerialNumber
539,000andlower,reinstallthebeltguidewithaspring
discwasherundertheheadoftheinnerboltandadjust
thebeltguide1/8inchfromthebelt.Allopenholes
inthetopofthedecknotcoveredbyshieldsmustbe
pluggedtopreventsandorothersmallobjectsfrom
beingthrownupthroughthedeck.
10.Tightenallhardware.
11.Carefullyremovethejackstandsandlowerthemachine
totheground.
RemovingtheMulchKit
Toconvertthedeckbacktosidedischarge:
1.Stopengineandwaitforallmovingpartstostop,
engageparkingbrake,removekey,anddisconnectthe
negativebatterycable.
2.Removemulchingbafes,blockerbafe,andcover
plate.
3.Installthedischargebafethatwasremovedinstep4
ofInstallingtheMulchKitsection.
4.Replacethemulchingbladeswithstandardblades.
Refertostep8ofInstallingtheMulchKitforblade
torque.
5.Install5/16-18x5/8inchhexheadcapscrewand
whizlocknutintheholeontopofthedeckwiththe
boltheadunderneath.Install5/16-18x5/8inchhex
headcapscrewandwhizlocknutinthetwoholesinthe
frontofthedeckwiththeboltheadstotheoutsideof
thedeck.Allopenholesnotcoveredbybeltshields
mustbepluggedtopreventsandorothersmallobjects
frombeingthrownupthroughthedeck.
6.Flipdownthedischargedeector.
DANGER
Anuncovereddischargeopeningwillallow
objectstobethrowninanoperator'sor
bystander'sdirection.Also,contactwiththe
bladecouldoccur.Thrownobjectsorblade
contactcancauseseriousinjuryordeath.
Neveroperatethemowerwiththeside
dischargedoorraised,removed,oraltered
unlessthereisadischargedeectorandmulch
pluginplaceandworkingproperly.
