Whilemaintenanceoradjustmentsarebeing
made,someonecouldstarttheengine.

Removethekeyfromtheignitionswitch,
engageparkingbrake,andpullthewire(s)
offthesparkplug(s)beforeyoudoany
maintenance.Alsopushthewire(s)asideso
itdoesnotaccidentallycontactthespark
plug(s).
Note:Determinetheleftandrightsidesofthe
machinefromthenormaloperatingposition.
Note:Parktheunitonalevelsurface.Makesureall
movingpartshavestopped,parkingbrakeisengaged,
thekeyhasbeenremoved,andthesparkplugwire
hasbeendisconnected.Allowunittocoolbefore
startingtheseinstructions.

InstallingtheMulchKit
1.Makesureallmovingpartshavestopped,
parkingbrakeisengaged,andthekeyhasbeen
removed.
2.Raisethefrontofthemachineandsupportwith
jackstands.
CAUTION
Raisingthemowerdeckforservice
ormaintenancerelyingsolelyon
mechanicalorhydraulicjackscouldbe
dangerous.Themechanicalorhydraulic
jacksmaynotbeenoughsupportor
maymalfunctionallowingtheunittofall,
whichcouldcauseinjury.
DoNotrelysolelyonmechanical
orhydraulicjacksforsupport.Use
adequatejackstandsorequivalent
support.
3.Flipupthedischargedeector.Ifthemowerhas
beenused,scrapeundersideofmowerdeck
clean.
4.Removeandretaintheexistingbladesfromthe
unit.Keephardwaretoinstallthemulchblades.
5.Removeandretainthedischargebafe(see
Figure3)anditshardwarefromthedeck.

6.Installthenewmulchingbafeusingthe
hardwareshowninFigure2.Ifexisting
hardwareonthedeckinterfereswiththe
installation,removeandretaintoreplugthe
holeswhenthemulchkitisremoved.
7.Usingthree5/16x7/8inchscrewsandone5/16
x1inchscrew(seeFigure2),installthecover
platetotherightsideofdeckandsecurewith
four5/16inchangednylocnuts.
8.Installthemulchingbladesinplaceofthe
existingblades.Torquebladeboltto55-60ft-lb
(75-81N-m).
WARNING
Incorrectinstallationofthebladeor
componentsusedtoretainthebladecan
bedangerous.Failuretousealloriginal
componentsandassembledasshown
couldallowabladeorbladecomponent
tobethrownoutfromunderthedeck
resultinginseriouspersonalinjuryor
death.
AlwaysinstalltheoriginalExmarkblades
andbladeretaininghardwareasshown
intheOperator’smanual.
9.Installhardwarebackintotheholeinthetop
ofthedeckwherethedischargebafewas
removed.Allopenholesinthetopofthedeck
notcoveredbyshieldsmustbepluggedto
preventsandorothersmallobjectsfrombeing
thrownupthroughthedeck.
10.Tightenallhardware.

RemovingtheMulchKit
Toconvertthedeckbacktosidedischarge
1.Stopengineandwaitforallmovingpartsto
stop,engageparkingbrake,removekey,and
disconnectthenegativebatterycable.
2.Removemulchingbafesandcoverplate.
3.Installdischargebafethatwasremovedinstep
5ofInstallingtheMulchKit.
4.Replacethemulchingbladeswithstandard
blades.
5.Install5/16-18x5/8inchhexheadcapscrew
andwhizlocknutintheholeontopofthedeck
withtheboltheadunderneath.Allopenholes
notcoveredbybeltshieldsmustbepluggedto
preventsandorothersmallobjectsfrombeing
thrownupthroughthedeck.
6.Flipdownthedischargedeector.
DANGER
Anuncovereddischargeopening
willallowobjectstobethrowninan
operator'sorbystander'sdirection.Also,
contactwiththebladecouldoccur.
Thrownobjectsorbladecontactcan
causeseriousinjuryordeath.
Neveroperatethemowerwiththeside
dischargedoorraised,removed,or
alteredunlessthereisadischarge
deectorandmulchpluginplaceand
workingproperly.
