6 MAINTENANCE
6.1 Maintenance Schedule
The cot requires regular maintenance. Set up and follow a
maintenance schedule. Keep maintenance records. A sample
maintenance record sheet is provided on page 23. The table
at right represents minimum intervals for maintenance.

instructions and read the material safety data sheet.
6.4 Disinfecting and Cleaning
the Restraints
Remove the restraints from the cot. Disinfect and clean
them as directed in the restraint users’ manual provided with
them. Additional, free manuals can be obtained from Ferno
Customer Relations (page 2).
6.3 Disinfecting and Cleaning
the Cot Frame and Undercarriage
Disinfect and clean the cot frame and undercarriage by hand
as instructed below. Do not use a water hose, steam, or
power washer.
Disinfecting: Apply a quaternary disinfectant such as
Sanizene® to the cot frame and undercarriage according to
the disinfectant manufacturer’s instructions. (Sanizene®
may be purchased from Ferno Customer Service, page 2.)
Cleaning: Hand clean the cot with a mild detergent or a pH
neutral cleaner. Rinse the cot with a clean cloth and clear
water. Dry the cot with a towel or allow it to air dry.
6.2 Disinfecting and Cleaning
the Cot Platform
Disinfect and clean the platform by hand as instructed below.
Do not use a water hose, steam, or power washer.
Disinfecting: Apply a phenolic disinfectant to the platform.
(Do not use bleach.) Follow the disinfectant manufacturer's
instructions for dilution, application method, and contact
time. Use a clean cloth and clean water to thoroughly
remove the disinfectant immediately after the recommended
contact time.
Cleaning: Hand wash the platform with a pH neutral
cleaner. Follow instructions on the cleaner container. A pH
neutral cleaner can be purchased at hardware and home-
improvement stores.
Note: Do not use harsh cleaning products such as Pine Sol®
or Mr. Clean®, which can damage the platform surface.
Important
The platform can be damaged by disinfectants and
cleaners containing bleach or iodines. Use a phenolic
disinfectant on the platform and thoroughly rinse it o
immediately after the recommended contact time.
Important
The cot frame and undercarriage can be damaged
by disinfectants and cleaners containing bleach,
phenolics, or iodines. Disinfect and clean those parts
of the cot as instructed in Section 6.3 on this page.
Important
Using abrasive cleaning compounds or applicators on
any part of the cot or platform can cause damage. Do
not use abrasive materials to clean the cot.
Important
Water from a hose or pressure washer, or steam, can
damage the platform and can penetrate joints, ush
away lubricant, and cause corrosion.Wash the platform,
frame, and undercarriage by hand.
WARNING
Improper maintenance can cause injury. Maintain
the cot only as described in this manual.
