We recommend you read the instruction manual before switching on the machine and follow the instructions
that are given. Keep the manual for future reference.
SECURITY AND THE ENVIRONMENT
ELECTRICAL SECURITY
Check that the current in the mains connection where the machine is to be installed corresponds to the
power supply of the machine.
To avoid damaging the equipment, electrical shocks, fire or physical injury when you connect or disconnect
the equipment from the power supply, pull the plug firmly out of the mains socket holding the plug, never the
cable.
Always do this with dry hands.
Keep the power supply cable far from sources of heat. Do not put heavy objects on top of it or change it.
Clean dust and dirt off the power supply cable regularly.
Do not open the machine; you could get an electric shock.
CAUTION
While installing the machine, make sure it is switched off and unplugged.
Do not open the machine. Touching the internal parts is dangerous and you could receive an electric shock.
The machine must not be splashed or dripped on. Never place recipients with liquid inside on the machine.
Do not place anything inside the machine.
LOCATION
Place the equipment on a horizontal surface with enough space around it to allow ventilation.
Avoid direct sunlight, heat sources and excessive dust.
Do not place the machine near magnetic fields or static electricity.
Do not use surfaces which vibrate or receive impact.
Do not pile machines on top of one another.
VENTILATION
Never block or cover the ventilation slits on the machine.
Do not expose it to direct sunlight or place it near sources of heat.
PERIODS OF INACTIVITY
When the machine is not going to be used for a long period of time, disconnect it from the mains.
If you are using an adapter, take into account that it will continue using electricity even if the machine is
switched off. If it is not going to be used for a long period of time, disconnect it from the mains.
THE ENVIRONMENT
To save energy, switch the machine off when you are not going to use it for a long time. The machine could
contain substances that are harmful to the environment or human health. To minimize the effect of these
substances the machine must be correctly managed and recycled when you decide to dispose of it.
When you dispose of it remember: it cannot be thrown into a conventional rubbish bin.
If it contains or uses batteries, these must be disposed of separately.
The machine (without batteries) must be disposed of correctly. Put it in a container specially intended for the
collection of electronic and electrical appliances, at the dump or hand it over to the dealer when you purchase
similar equipment, so that the dealer can dispose of it correctly (at no added cost).

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE SYMBOLS ON THE MACHINE*
The symbol formed by the expression “Class 1 laser product” written in a rectangle
indicates that visible or invisible laser radiation could be produced. Avoid direct exposure
to the laser.
The symbol formed by a ray of lightening inside a triangle shows that the machine has
connection terminals or a circuit with areas with a current which could cause an electric
shock, even in normal working conditions.
The symbol formed by an exclamation mark in a triangle shows that the instruction manual
must be referred to for information on how the machine works and its use.
The symbol formed by one square inside another square shows that the machine has
double electrical insulation.
The European Community symbol shows that the machine complies with the current
European Union legislation, as well as its transposition to local legislation.
The symbol of a rubbish bin crossed out and over a horizontal line shows that when the
product is disposed of it must be done properly, placing it in a special selective electronic
and electrical equipment container or through a dealer when purchasing a similar product,
at no additional cost. It also shows that the machine was put on the market after 13th
August 2005 (European Community Directive 2002/96/CE of Electrical and Electronic
recycling, and its Spanish equivalent R.D.208/2005).
In accordance with what is set out in the aforementioned decree, FONESTAR is registered
in the RAEE (Registro de Aparatos Eléctricos y Electrónicos) in a special section REI
(Registro de establecimientos Industriales), with the entry number 001851.
*It is possible that some of these symbols do not appear on the machine.

DESCRIPTION
Desktop microphone with recorder/message player in MP3 format for direct paging or playback of recorded
messages, with chimes.
INSTALLATION AND CONNECTION
Before making any connections switch off all the audio devices and disconnect them from the power supply.

The basic connections are as follows:
1. Au io output: balanced mic output, 6.3 mm jack. Connect it to a microphone input of an amplifier or
mixer.
2. Power supply: for connection of 9 V DC mains adapter.
3.-PC connection: to copy and delete messages from the microphone memory (in MP3 compressed file
format),connect the microphone to the PC using the USB cable provided.
4.-Hea phones: use the mono headphones to monitor the audio output. Connect them to the headphone
output, 3.5 mm mono jack. The loudspeaker will remain deactivated.
5.-Au io input : if you wish to record a message from an external audio source, such as a CD player, the
audio signal you wish to record must be connected to the AUDIO IN input using a 3.5 mm stereo jack.
Once the connections have been made according to your needs, connect the devices to the power supply
and switch them on.
After use, do not forget to switch off the microphone and disconnect the adapter from the power supply.

F - Microphone sensitivity adjustment (in the lower part).
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Power
Switch on the microphone using the switch and the on/off button. Wait a few moments while the software is
loading the following sequence will occur: the LED power indicator will switch on POWER and the LED TALK
button indicator will light up for a moment, then “ ”, will be shown on the display, the microphone is ready).
When the microphone is not in use it will go into standby mode and “00” will flash on the display until a key
or the TALK button is pressed.
Microphone Sensitivity
If it is neccessary to adjust the sensitivity of the microphone, to increase or decrease its gain, make the
adjustment according to the needs in the potentiometer located on the lower part of the microphone. Be
especially careful not to select too much gain and distort the signal.
Chimes
Using the CHIME selector it is posible to activate (ON) or deactivate (OFF) the chimes. If the chimes are
activated (CHIME) chimes recorded in the memory will be broadcast to warn of paging. The chimes are
broadcast before and after paging.
It is posible to change the chimes using a PC. For more information refer to the “PC Connection” section”.

Paging
There are two ways to page using the microphone:
• By locking- Press, PTL (PUSH TO LOCK) .
a) To start paging press the TALK button.
If the chimes are activated wait for them to be activated.
NOTE: while the chimes are being broadcast “ ” Will be shown on the display.The LED TALK button
indicator will light up.
b) Talk through the microphone.
NOTE: the message will not be heard through the loudspeaker to avoid feedback. It is possible to
listen to the broadcast through the headphone output.
NOTE: while the microphone is open “ ” will be shown on the display
c) When paging has finished press the TALK button again.
The LED TALK button indicator will switch off.
If the chimes are activated wait for them to be broadcast.
NOTE: while the chimes are being broadcast “ ” will be shown on the display.
• By pressing- Push to talk, PTT (PUSH TO TALK).
a) To start paging press and keep pressing down the TALK button.
If the chimes are activated wait for them to be broadcast.
NOTE: while the chimes are being broadcast “ ” will be shown on the display.
The LED TALK button indicator will light up.
b) Talk through the microphone (pressing down the TALK button continuously).
NOTE: the message will not be heard through the loudspeaker to avoid feedback .The broadcast can
be listened to through the headphone output .
NOTE: while the microphone is open “ ” will be shown on the display.
c) When paging has finished release the TALK button.
The LED TALK button indicator will switch off.
If the chimes are activated wait for them to be broadcast.
NOTE: while the chimes are being broadcast “ ” will be shown on the display.
Selecting messages
The messages are numbered 1 to 88.
To select a message enter the number using the numerical keypad (for example, press the number 1 or 01
to select the message 1), the number of the chosen message will appear on the LCD display (88 messages
máximum)
If you wish to play or pre-listen to a message that does not exist, the message number will flash on the
display.
If you wish to cancel the selection press the CANCEL/END button, wait and re-enter the message number.
Recor ing messages
The microphone MCH-221D has a recording capacity of 88 messages (numbered 1 to 88) or 60 minutes of
audio.The messages are recorded in a compressed MP3 format.Voice messages can be recorded using the
microphone, from an external audio source through the AUDIO IN input or both at the same time.
a) Select the message number.
b) Press the RECORD button
NOTE: if a message already exists with that number it will not be possible to record it. The display will
show “ ”. The message must be deleted before recording one with that number.
The LED recording indicator will stop flashing and remain lit.
Check on the LCD display that the number of the chosen message is correct.

e) Press the RECORD”button again.
Wait until the LED recording indicator stops flashing and remains lit. The message number will remain
on the display.
d) Record the message using the microphone, through the audio AUDIO IN input or through both at the
same time
NOTE: the recording will not be heard through the loudspeaker to avoid feedback. The recording can
be heard through the headphone output.
NOTE: adjust the volume of the source connected to the AUDIO IN input to an appropriate level
without distortion. During the recording the signal connected to the audio input can be listened to
through the headphone output.
NOTE: the numbers on the LCD display will countdown when the memeory capacity is lower than 30
seconds.
e) To finish recording press the CANCEL/END key and wait until “00” flashes on the display.
Pre-listen to messages
Recorded messages can be pre-listened to before being broadcast. Pre-listening is performed through the
microphone’s loudspeaker or through the headphone output if headphones are connected. The messages
are not broadcast through the MIC OUT audio output.
a) Select the message number.
b) Press the PREVIEW button.
c) Playback will stop when the end of the message is reached. It is possible to stop before by pressing
the CANCEL/END button and waiting until “00” appears flashing on the display.
Message playback
When a message is played it is broadcast through the audio output MIC OUT and can be listened to through
the microphone loudspeaker or through the headphone output if headphones are connected.
a) Select the message number.
b) To play and broadcast a message press the PLAY button.
If they are activated the chimes will be broadcast.
NOTE: while the chimes are being broadcast “ ” will be shown on the display.
Then the recorded message is played.
NOTE: during playback the message number will be shown on the display. If the message number
flashes the message is not recorded.
Playback finishes at the end of the message. It can be stopped before by pressing the CANCEL/END
button.
If the chimes are activated wait for them to be broadcast.
NOTE: while the chimes are being broadcast “ ” will be shown on the display.
Message playback can be interrupted at any time to page through the microphone.
a) Press the TALK button,
Message playback will be interrupted.
The LED TALK button will light up.
b) Talk through the microphone.
NOTE: the message will not be heard through the loudspeaker to avoid interference. The broadcast
can be listened to through the headphone output.
NOTE: while the microphone is open “ ” will be shown on the display.
c) When paging has finished press the TALK button.
The LED TALK button indicator will switch off.
Message playback will continue.

Deleting messages
If only one message is deleted the selected message will be deleted and the sequence of the rest of the
messages will not be changed. The delete function can not be reversed, so be careful when selecting the
message to be deleted.
a) Select the message number.
b) Simultaneously press “/T” y “#” keys.
Wait a few seconds.
“ ” will appear on the display for a few seconds.
The message has been deleted. Wait until "00" appears flashing on the screen.
The microphone memory can also be formated, with which all messages including chimes will be deleted.
Before performing this function, it is recommended that a copy of the audio files is made connecting the
microphone to a PC and saving the compressed MP3 files in another storage device, for posible future use.
a) Select number 99 using the keypad.
b) Simultaneously press the “/T” and “#” keys.
Wait a few seconds.
“ ” will appear on the display for a few seconds.
The memory has been formated.
PC connection
Through a connection with a PC via USB port compressed audio MP3 files can be transferred between the
PC and the MCH-221D microphone.
a) Connect the microphone and the PC using the USB cable.
The PC will recognise the microphone as a removable disk drive.
NOTE: if the computer uses a W2000, a WXP or another newer operating system with Plug and Play
support for USB, it will automatically recognise the microphone as a removable disk drive.If your
computer uses W98 operating system the drivers provided with the microphone will have to be
installed.
b) It is posible to add, delete and copy compressed audio MP3 files as if it were a removable disk.
NOTE: the files that are copied to the microphone must be named using the following format:
M_INT_XX.MP3 (where XX is the number of the message from 1 to 89)
The chimes have a reserved message number:
Chime at start of paging or message: M_INT_90.MP3
Chime at end of paging or message: M_INT_91.MP3
c) Disconnect the microphone from the PC for normal use.

This product has been tested and has passed the corresponding quality control prior to being put on the market.
FONESTAR guarantees the suitability of the product for its specified use during a period of 2 years from the delivery date and
commits itself to repair or substitute the goods as expressed in the Spanish law ‘La Ley General para la Defensa de los
Consumidores y Usuarios, Real Decreto Legislativo 1/2007 16 Noviembre.
The lack of conformity in the first six months after purchase, due to a manufacturing defect, will be rectified with no more than
showing the proof of purchase. After six months FONESTAR reserves the right to demand proof of the product being sold
with that problem.
This warranty does not include damage produced by: inappropriate use or negligence, accidents, worn out parts due to use,
breakages, burns, spilt liquids or other substances, excessive humidity, battery deterioration and internal manipulation of the
device, the software or its components by unauthorized persons, and in general any use that is unrelated to the nature and
purpose of the product.
If any service is needed during the warranty period because of lack of conformity, please contact the business or distributor
where the product was purchased in no more than 2 months after being conscious of the problem. It is only necessary to
contact FONESTAR if it is impossible or imposes an undue burden for them to solve it.
To benefit from this warranty it is necessary to show the proof of purchase with the date clearly visible, with no corrections
or crossing out.
This document adds information, and never decreases the consumers’ rights, which in all cases are protected by the Spanish
law ‘La Ley General para la Defensa de los Consumidores y Usuarios, Real Decreto Legislativo 1/2007 16 Noviembre.
