•Can I copy a model from my 9Z(A or H) P radio to my 9Z World Cup radio using
the campac, or vice versa?
•What does "Limit Mode" mean in the ATV function of my radio?
•Does my radio have a lithium battery to store all my programming, or how is this
data stored? Do I need to service this memory in any way?
•I am thinking of purchasing an aftermarket Tx module for my module radio. Is
this OK to do? Does this affect my warranty?
•If I am using the trainer function of my 9Z, does my radio's auto-shut-off feature
know it? Or do I need to turn off auto-shut-off while I'm instructing?
•How do I set up a condition on my 9Z?
•I want to change the operation speed of one of my servos (for example, slowing
the opening of my gear doors). How can I do this?
•Can you tell me the major advantages that this radio will offer me over the 8
channel?
•I read somewhere the 8U super has 'FUNCTION' trainer capability and the 9Z has
a trainer function called 'mixer'. What does this mean? How does it differ from
other radios?
•Please explain dual rates, exponential, AFR and ATV and how they are related.
•Can I replace the antenna in my 9Z myself?
•Can I unscrew the antenna from my 9Z?
•I want to set up a throttle cut condition on my helicopter which only operates in
normal, not in any of my other conditions. How can I do this? (I am afraid I'll
bump the throttle cut when reaching for certain other switches in inverted flight.)
•I was using my radio, and suddenly my throttle servo went to idle. If I pull my
throttle stick all the way back and then move it again, it works for a while and
does it again. Am I doing something wrong?
•What is 'battery failsafe'? What does this mean? How does it work?
•Can I use the PA2 in conjunction with FailSafe on my PCM transmitter to help
protect my airplane in the event of interference?
•I want to move a function from one control input to a different one. For example,
I want to move flaps from the slider onto the throttle stick on a 2 servo glider.
How can I do this?
•How do I program a four-servo delta wing setup on the 9Z? I want to make the
two servos in each wing should act as both elevator and aileron.
•I am interested in using conditions, but what about my trims? If I trim the model
in one condition, will the trim 'follow' through all conditions or do I have to retrim
in each condition? Also, what if I need a difference in trim (like an offset)
between one condition and the next, but then want to have any changes I make in
any condition follow from then on?
•How do I delete a condition or a whole model out of the Campac?
•How do I start a brand new model in my Campac? I can't seem to select any of the
units in the Campac and start to edit it to make it a model?
•I am setting up a twin engined-model and want to be able to command the engines
separately at certain times. Specifically, I always want the engines to respond only
to the throttle stick (never any knobs or other items), and I want the left engine to
operate alone if the C switch is in the up position with the right engine at idle; the
left and right engines operating together in the C center position, and the right
engine to operate alone in the C down position, with the left engine at idle. Can I
do this?
•I want to set up two servos to operate a single surface, but not use a preset feature
like flaperons or ailevators to do so. How can I do this with a mix?
•I want to know about triple rates in conditions and over-riding one channel within
a condition for a higher rate.
•I am setting up flaperons on my 9Z. The flaperon function works great for the
ailerons, but I can't seem to operate the flaps. What am I doing wrong?
•I want to use a module-based radio (for example, 7U, 8U or 9Z) on a different
frequency BAND than it currently uses. For example, I want to go to 75mHz for
ground use for battlebots, boats or cars, or I have a HAM license and want to use
the radio on 50mHz. Can I do this, and if so, how?
•When I set up varied conditions, my trims don't have the same amount of effect in
each condition. My 3D condition, for example, the trim has a much larger effect
than in my normal flight condition. How can I fix that?
•Can the 9Z's synthesized module and receiver be used with non-synthesized
modules and receivers?
•I own a 6X (or 8U or 9Z) airplane radio. I want to use it with helicopters. How do
I get it changed?
•I am looking for a 6+ channel computer radio on a ground frequency for use with
my boat, car, or other ground only vehicle. What is available to me?
•Can I use a receiver with a different number of channels than my transmitter (ex:
4ch Rx with 8ch Tx)? What about with the synthesized transmitter
module/synthesized receiver of the 9Z?
•How about setting up a complex 7-servo or 8-servo (8th servo being gasoline
engine kill switch) aerobat on the 9Z with 2-each flap and aileron servos?
•How can I get my gear doors to open and close delayed to the movement of my
gear?
•My ailerons work fine, but when I turn the flap knob they both move as ailerons.
What's wrong?
•Why are there different modules for the 9Z and the 8U? Can I use my 9Z module
in my 8?
•How can I move my throttle trim to the left slider on an aircraft model?
•What receivers can I use with my transmitter other than the model which shipped
with the radio?
•When I am using my radio for programming, setup within my house,
experimenting, etc, is there anything special I should do?
•I'm confused by some of the 9Z terms and abbreviations. Can you help?
•What are cross trims? Why does the trim beside the throttle adjust the elevator
and vice versa?
•I want to use flaperons with a 5-channel receiver. How can I do this?
•If I am using the DSC or if I have used the A or R key during turn-on to keep the
transmitter from transmitting, do I still need to extend one section of the antenna
or remove the module?
•Is there any risk to using cellular phones in close proximity with my radio?
•Please walk me through setting up the 9Z with the GV1.
•How do I completely reset my 9Z, clearing all memories, passwords, user name,
everything?
•I see a trim change on one channel when I go from high rate to low rate. I am not
changing conditions, just going to low rate. What's wrong?
•How do I know which glider type to select for my particular model?
•How do I properly range check my 9Z?
•Is there a synth module for 35mHz for use in the UK? Is it legal to use?
•How can I put expo or a curve into my throttle channel to give me linear throttle
reaction?
•When I go to the throttle cut screen in an aircraft model, the throttle position
option is not shown. Am I doing something wrong?
•How do I store the trims after a flight?
•Does the throttle cut feature in the aircraft programming have throttle position as
an option?
•When using the elevon feature of my computer radio, I give elevator input and the
surfaces move like ailerons. When I give aileron input they move like elevators.
What's wrong?
•I want to set up a safety on one of the auxiliary features on my model. For
example, I want my speed brakes to fully retract automatically if my throttle goes
above 1/3 throttle (I'd be making a go-around) to avoid the possibility of stalling
the plane. How can I do that?
•I want to create a mix which is only active if my throttle is above a certain point.
For example, I only want my smoke to come on if my throttle is above 1/2 to
avoid killing the engine. How can I do this?
•I want to trigger my high rates to only be active when I am above a certain engine
RPM on my heli. I can use stick position to trigger on the positive side, but on the
negative side it doesn't recognize that the engine is actually 'revved up'. How can I
make this work?
•If my receiver is PCM, do I need a PCM module or PCM crystal for my
transmitter? Do I need PCM crystals for it?
•How can I set up a 45-degree CCPM on a 9Z or 9Z WC2?
•How do I change this radio from FM to PCM or vice versa?
•Can the 9Z radios handle 140 degree CCPM? If so, how?
•What are the differences between a 9Z*P, W, and WC2 editions?
•How can I do differential rudder throw on a v-tail?
•How can I vary my onboard glow with throttle position?
•My model is CCPM but one of the functions is backwards. For example, my
elevator servo is forward on my swash plate, not aft, so the elevator function
works backwards. How do I fix that?
•How do I get aileron differential WITH flaperons?
•How do I store models on my Campac? How do I move models from my Campac
back into my transmitter?
•I want to use the 9Z's FMC functions to set up fuel mixture on my giant scale race
plane so I can adjust the high speed mixture on the left slider. Also, I want the
throttle cut to dump the fuel mixture servo to wide open which releases all
pressure in the tank and bring my engine up to 1/2 throttle to burn off all fuel
immediately. Can it do that?
•What is a PLL error?
•Can I fine tune my governor settings in flight? That is to say, adjust from say
1500 to 1525?
•I did not find the answer to my question here. How do I get further assistance?
Can I copy a model from my 9Z(A or H) P radio to my 9Z World Cup radio using
the campac, or vice versa?

Does my radio have a lithium battery to store all my programming, or how is this
data stored? Do I need to service this memory in any way?
The 9Z uses a lithium battery to store your programming. This battery should be replaced
every 5 years to protect your data. Please send your radio to the Futaba service center
every 5 years for replacement of this lithium battery. Please be sure to back up all data
from your radio onto hard copy or CAMPAC to avoid loss of your programming.
I am thinking of purchasing an aftermarket Tx module for my module radio. Is this
okay to do? Does this affect my warranty?

1. Set up the active memory to be in the Aircraft mode. Install your servos in the
model, connect to their respective control surfaces, and plug them into the
receiver channels listed below:
oCH1 = Right aileron (outboard)
oCH2 = Right elevator (inboard)
oCH5 = Left elevator (inboard)
oCH6 = Left aileron (outboard)
2. Turn on Flaperon (FPN) mixing. This will slave the CH6 aileron to the aileron
stick. Change the signs as needed to get the proper travel directions (opposite
motion with aileron stick movement).
3. Turn on Ailevator (ALV) mixing. This will slave the CH5 (left elevator) servo to
the elevator stick. If you want the inboard controls to also act as ailerons, use the
A-3 and A-4 settings to get proper aileron travel directions. If you just want
elevator, set A-3 and A-4 to zero (0%).
4. If you want to get the entire trailing edge to respond to elevator, turn on elevator -
> flap mixing (E-F), and choose the percentage needed to get the throws desired.
Choose sign to get proper direction of outboard control motion.

I am interested in using conditions, but what about my trims? If I trim the model in
one condition, will the trim 'follow' through all conditions or do I have to retrim in
each condition? Also, what if I need a difference in trim (like an offset) between one
condition and the next, but then want to have any changes I make in any condition
follow from then on?

I am setting up a twin engined-model and want to be able to command the engines
separately at certain times. Specifically, I always want the engines to respond only to
the throttle stick (never any knobs or other items), and I want the left engine to
operate alone if the C switch is in the up position with the right engine at idle; the
left and right engines operating together in the C center position, and the right
engine to operate alone in the C down position, with the left engine at idle. Can I do
this?

1. Create a pmix mixing thr to 7, 100%, switch c positions center and down:
___press 2 advanced menu keys
___Page up or down to an open pmix
___Press + to activate mix

___Arrow over leave offset 50%
___Arrow over to switch assignment
___Press + until says SW-C
___Arrow over
___Press + key until says CNTR/DWN
2. Left throttle operates properly on the throttle stick already with no changes
needed, so that is the up switch position for the channel 3 servo. However, the
channel 7 servo needs to be brought to idle, or kill, or however you want it set up.
We'll assume you want it to idle. To do so, offset mix channel 7:
Select a blank pmix, make it active, and select the first choice as OFS and second
as ch7. Make the percent 50% (you may need to adjust this to match your engine
and your desired result), link off, switch C up.
3. Now, we need to operate the channel 7 throttle but not the channel 3 throttle when
we move the throttle stick while in the down position. To do so, we do a pmix of
throttle to throttle, -100% each direction, link off, trim off, offset 50%, switch C
down. Now channel 7 operates, but channel 3 returns to neutral, not idle position.
Again, like we did in part 2, do an offset mix to solve this problem. Select an
available pmix, make it active, OFS to THR, 50% (adjust as needed), link off,
switch C down.
4. Lastly, we need to turn off the channel 7 knob to avoid its position affecting your
right engine, so pmix channel 7 to channel 7 -100% each direction, no link, 0
offset, no trim, and leave the switch setting as NULL.
