DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
The Globe Model GL4247 Residential Adjustable Concealed Pendent Sprinkler is a low profile
yetdurabledesignwhichutilizesa3mmfrangibleglassampuleasthethermosensitiveelement. It
features economy,aestheticsand1/2"ofadjustment. Thecombinationofthe3mmfrangibleglass
ampule and specially designed deflector make the Model GL4247 Residential Adjustable Con-
cealedPendentSprinklertheultimateinlifesafetyandfirecontrol. Thisresidentialsprinklerhasmet
thestrictrequirementsofUnderwritersLaboratoriesInc.asdescribedintheULStandard,UL1626,
for Residential Sprinklers for Fire Protection Service, and should be used accordingly. These
sprinklersshouldalsobeinstalledinaccordancewiththeappropriateNFPAStandard13Ror13D.
Allthatisseenattheceilingisa35/16"diameterceilingplatecolorfinishedtomatchthespecifier's
exact requirements. Globe's Residential Adjustable Concealed Pendent Sprinkler utilizes its
pendentresidentialtypesprinklerwhichisconcealedfromviewbyadomeshapedceilingplatethat
concealsthesprinklerjustbelowtheceilinglineforfasterresponseoncetheceilingplatehasfallen
away. Theceilingplateissolderedtothesprinkler'sspecialuppersupportassemblyinthreeplaces.
Upontheapplicationofsufficientheat,theplatefallstothefloorexposingtheresidentialpendentspray
sprinkler. Attheampule'sratedtemperature,thesprinkleropensdischargingwaterontothefloorin
itsrequiredandapproveddistributionpattern.
TheheartofGlobe'sModelGL4247sprinklerprovenactuatingassemblyisahermeticallysealed
frangibleglassampulethatcontainsapreciselymeasuredamountoffluid. Whenheatisabsorbed,
theliquidwithinthebulbexpandsincreasingtheinternalpressure. Attheprescribedtemperaturethe
internalpressurewithintheampuleexceedsthestrengthoftheglasscausingtheglasstoshatter. This
resultsinwaterdischargewhichisdistributedinanapprovedpattern.
