477MHzbandhasbeenamended.Thisradiomeetsthenew80
channelstandard.
Insimpletermsthesameamountofspectrumisavailable;however,
radiotransceiverscannowoperateinanarrowerbandwidthand
henceuselessspectrum.Theseradiosaregenerallyreferredtoas
narrowbandor12.5kHzradios.Byusing12.5kHzchannelspacing
insteadof25kHz,the40channelsoriginallyallocatedcannowbe

appliedtochannels22and23.
Intheeventthatadditionaltelemetry/telecommandchannelsare
approvedbytheACMA,thesechannelsshallbeaddedtothose
currentlylistedwherevoicetransmissionisinhibited.Currently
transmissionsonchannels61,62and63arealsoinhibitedand
thesechannelsarereservedforfutureallocation.

original40channels,howevertheywillnotbeabletoconverseonthe
newerchannels41–80.Thenewernarrowbandradioswillbeable
toconversewithallolder40channelwidebandradiosonallchannels
1to40aswellasthenewerchannelsallocatedfrom41to80.
Themixingofnarrowbandandwidebandradiosinthesame
spectrumcancausesomepossibleoperatingissuesofinterference
andvaryinglevelsofreceivedvolume.
POSSIBLE ISSUES
Whenanewnarrowbandradioreceivesatransmissionfromanolder
widebandradiothespeechmaysoundloudanddistorted–simply
adjustyourradiovolumeforbestperformance.
Whenanolderwidebandradioreceivesasignalfromanew
narrowbandradio,thespeechmaysoundquiet-simplyadjustyour
radiovolumeforbestperformance.
Dependingonhowcloseyourreceivingradioistoanother
transmittingradio,therecanbeinterferencefromthetransmitting
radioifitisusingachanneladjacenttothechannelyouarelistening
to.Simplytrygoingupordownafewchannelsfromthecurrently
selectedchannel.
Theabovesituationsarenotafaultoftheradiobutasymptomof
operatingwidebandandnarrowbandradiosinthesamebandwidth.
Thispossibleinterferencewilldecreaseovertimeasthepopulationof
widebandradiosagesanddecreases.

Ifleftunused,thebatterieswilldischargewithinafewmonths.
IfyouhavenotusedyourTX670forsometime,youwillneedto
rechargeyourbatterypackbeforeuse.
Installing the Batteries
Batteryinstallationismoreconvenientwhenthebeltclipis
removed.Todothis,releasethespringclipandslidethebelt
clipdownwardandawayfromtheradiobody.
1.Pressthecentre-topareaofthebatterycoverand
slidedownwards.
2.Installtherechargeablebatterypackinthedirection
indicatedonthepackuntilit‘clicks’intoplace.
3. Replacethebatterycoverandbeltclip.
Charging the Batteries
YourTX670issuppliedwithanACadapterwhichwillrecharge
afullydischargedbatterypacktofullcapacityinaround15-16
hours.
1.Plugthechargerintoastandard240voltACoutlet.
2.Connectthechargertomic/chargesocketontheradio.
Battery Low Alert
Whenthebatteryiconblinksonthedisplay,thebatterylevel
islowandthebatteriesshouldberechargedorreplaced.Ifthe
batteriesarenotcharged,anaudiotonewillthensoundtowarn
theuserthatthebatteriesarealmostdischarged.
Battery Usage
Thetimetakentodischargethebatterieswilldependonhow
youusetheTX670.The1500mAhbatterypacksuppliedis
powerfulenoughforafulldaysuseunderaverageconditions.
Conserving Battery Power
TheTX670hasbuilt-inpowersavingfeaturestohelpyouget
themaximumamountoftimebetweencharges.Ifyouneedto
operateyourTX670inasituationwhereyourequiremaximum
batterylife(e.g.aremotesitewherethereisnoconvenient
rechargingfacilitynearby)thefollowinghintscangreatlyreduce
theamountofpowerdrawnfromthebatteries.
Standby Mode
TheTX670willautomaticallyenterthe‘Standby’modewhen
itisinactive(i.e.nottransmittingorreceivingsignals).Whilein
Standbymodeitwillstillcheckforincomingsignalsbutitwill
drawconsiderablylesspowerfromthebatteries.Assoonasa
signalisheardorthekeysarepressedtheTX670will‘wakeup’
again.ThisStandbymodeisautomaticandbyitselfcanextend
thebatterylifebymanyhours.
Using CTCSS
Ifyouareexpectingtoreceivesignalsonabusychannel,you
canprogramthatchannelforCTCSSoperationandgettheother
persontocallyouusingthesameCTCSStone.Yourradiowill
thenremaininStandbyandignoreallothersignalsuntilyour
selectedCTCSStoneisreceived.

IftheincomingsignalisencodedwithaCTCSStonethatmatches
theonesetinyourradio,theLEDindicatorwilllightorangeand
youwillbeabletohearthesignalinthespeaker.
IftheLEDindicatorlightsgreenandthe iconappearsbut
youcannothearthesignal,itislikelythatyourradiohasCTCSS
enabledandtheincomingsignalisnotusingyourselectedCTCSS
tone(see‘ModeSettings’formoredetailsonCTCSSsettings).
Ifnofurthersignalsarereceived,theunitwillreturnto
Standbymode.
TRANSMITTING
Totransmit,pressandholdthePush-To-Talk(PTT)switch.The
otherradioyouaretalkingtomustbesettothesamechannel
(andCTCSScodeifapplicable).HoldtheTX670approximately5
to8cmsfromyourfacewiththeantennaverticalandspeakinto
thebuilt-inmicrophone.
WhilethePTTswitchispressed,theLEDindicatorontheupper
edgeoftheradiowilllightredandthe iconwillappearon
theLCD.
Whenyouhavenishedspeaking,releasethePTTswitchto
receiveincomingsignals(itisnotpossibletotransmitandreceive
atthesametime).Ifnofurthersignalsarereceived,theunitwill
reverttoStandbymode.
TIP: The PTTswitchcanalsobeusedtotransmitaCallAlarm
melody.WhentheCallAlarmmelodyisenabled(seeModesettings
formoredetailsontheCallAlarmsettings),pressingthePTTswitch
twicequicklywillcallanotherpartyonthesamechannelandplaythe
CallAlarmmelodyintheirradio’sspeaker.Whenthishappens,the
iconwillappearandtheLEDindicatorwilllightredforabout3
seconds.Thecallalarmcanonlybesentonceperminute.
DUPLEX/MONITOR KEY
The DUP/MON keyisadualfunctionkeythatcontrolsboththe
DuplexandMonitorfunctions.
DUP Key
PressthisbuttontoselectDuplexmodeonchannels1–8and
41–48.Duplexcanbeenabledordisabledseparatelyon
individualchannels.
Scanning
TheTX670drawsmorepowerfromthebatterieswhenscanning
thanwhenmonitoringasinglechannel.Thisisbecauseitmust
‘wakeup’moreoftentomonitoreachchannelforactivity.
Youcanlengthenthebatterylifebyavoidinganyunnecessary
scanning.Inaddition,scanningincreasesthechanceofndinga
signaltherebykeepingthereceiver‘awake’andtheSquelchopen
moreoften.
Low Transmit Power Settings
Thetransmitterhasbothhighandlowpowersettings.Ifyou
areonlyoperatingovershortdistances,areinareasonably
highlocationorareclosetoalocalrepeater,tryusingthe
lowtransmitterpowersetting.Thisreducesthetransmitter
powerfrom2wattsto1watteffectivelydoublingthetalktime
available.
GENERAl OPER ATION
POWER ON/OFF
Rotate the Volumecontrolclockwisepastthe‘click’toturnthe
radio ON.Rotatethecontrolcounter-clockwisepasttheclickto
turntheradioOFF again.
ADJUSTING THE VOLUME
Withtheunitpoweredon,rotatetheVolumecontrolclockwise
toincreasethevolumeandcounter-clockwisetodecrease
thevolume.
DISPLAY LIGHTING
TheLCDbacklightingactivatesautomaticallywheneverakeyis
pressedandturnsoffautomaticallyafterabout5seconds.
RECEIVING SIGNALS
WhiletheTX670isnotreceivingsignals,itwillremaininthe
Standbymodetoconservebatterypower.
Whenasignalisreceived,theLEDindicatorontheupperedge
oftheradiowilllightgreenandthe iconwillappearonthe
display.AdjusttheVolumecontrolforacomfortable
listeninglevel.

SCAN/MEMORY KEY
The SCANkeyisadualfunctionkeythatcontrolsbothScanand
MemoryFunctions.
Scanning Function
ChannelScanningallowsyoutomonitorchannelsthathave
beenincludedintheactivescanlist.Theactivescanlistincludes
allchannelswhichdisplaytheicon‘M’ontheLCD.
Toenablechannelscanning,brieypresstheSCANkey.‘SCAN’
willbedisplayedandtheradiowillshowrapidlychanging
channelnumbersasitscansthroughthechannels.While
scanning,brieypressthe or keystoselectthe
scan direction.
ToexittheScanmode,brieypresstheSCANkeyagain.The
TX670willreturntonormaloperationand‘SCAN’willdisappear
fromthedisplay.
Scanning Features
• Ifasignalisreceived,thescanispaused,allowingyou
totransmitandreceiveonthatchannel.Theradiowill
automaticallyresumescanningafewsecondsafterthelast
receptionortransmission.
• PressthePTTswitchwhiletheunitisscanningtojumptothe
homechannel(thehomechannelisthechanneltheradiowas
onatthetimescanningwasactivated).Youcanthentransmit
andreceiveonthatchannel.Theradiowillautomatically
resumescanningafewsecondsafterthelastreceptionor
transmission.

TIP: TheScanmodewillreducetheoverallbatterylifebecause
theStandby(batterysaver)featureisoverridden.Youshouldavoid
scanningifthebatteriesarerunninglowandyouneedtoconserve
power.
Memory Function
TheMemoryfunctionenablesanddisablesthecurrentchannel
tobememorisedintothescanninglist.Whenthechannelis
memorisedwiththe‘MEM’iconontheLCD,scanningwill
includethechannel.Whenthechannelisdeletedfromthe
scanninglist,thechannelwillbeskippeduponscanning.All
channelsaresavedtoMemoryduringmanufacture.Todisable
theMemory,pressandholdtheSCAN/MEMkey.

ToactivatetheKey-Lock,pressandholdtheMODEbuttonfor
about2seconds.The iconwillappearonthedisplay.
TocanceltheKey-Lock,pressandholdtheMODEbuttonagain.

Selecting Channels
Inthe‘Standby’mode,pressthe or keytostepup/down
onechannel.Pressandhold the or keystoquicklyscroll
up/down throughthechannels.
In‘Mode edit’mode,pressthe or keytostepupwardsor
downwardsthroughtheselectedmodesettings.
1. CTCSS CODE SELECTION
TheContinuousToneCodedSquelchSystem(CTCSS)isaSquelch
quietingsystemthatallowsgroupsofuserstosharethesame
channelwithoutdisturbingeachother.Ituses1of38lowfrequency
tonestoopenandclosetheSquelchontheradio.TheCTCSScodes
donotpreventothersfromhearingyourtransmission.Theysimply
provideyouwithaquieterchannelbypreventingyoufromhearing
transmissionsthatarenotusingthesamecodeasyouandare
thereforenotdirectedatyou.
NOTE: TocommunicatewithotherUHFradiosusingCTCSS,all
radiosyouwishtocommunicatewithmustbeswitchedtothesame
channelandhavethesameCTCSScodeselected.Ifyouwishto
receivesignalsfromUHFradiosthatarenotusingCTCSSyouwill
needtoeitherdisableCTCSSonthatchannelorsettheCTCSScode
to‘oF‘asdescribedinthefollowing‘note’.
To select a CTCSS Code
Fromthe‘Standby’mode:
1.Selecttherequiredchannelusingthe or keys.
2. Press the MODEkeyONCE(1)toselectthe CTCSS setting

Dual Watch Operation
• IfasignalisreceivedontheDualWatchchannel,theradio
willpauseonthatchannelforaslongasitremainsbusy,
thenresumetheDualWatchve(5)secondsafterthelast
transmission has ceased.
• Ifyouwishtotalkonthebusychannel,pressthePTTswitch
whiletheradioislockedontothatchannelthentalkinthe
usualway.
• Ifyouwishtotalkontheselectedchannel,pressthePTT
switchwhilenosignalsarebeingreceived.Theradiowill
switchtotheselectedchannel.
4.PresstheMODE or PTTkeymomentarilytoconrmandstore
yourselection.
NOTE: CTCSSisonlyenabledonthosechannelswithCTCSScodes
