DevelopmentNewZealand(MED).AGeneralUserRadioLicence
forCitizensBandradioandoperationissubjecttoconditions
containedinthoselicences.
TheclasslicenceforusersandequipmentoperatingintheCB/PRS
477MHzbandhasbeenamended.Thisradiomeetsthenew80
channelstandard.
Insimpletermsthesameamountofspectrumisavailable;however,
radiotransceiverscannowoperateinanarrowerbandwidthand
henceuselessspectrum.Theseradiosaregenerallyreferredtoas
narrowbandor12.5kHzradios.Byusing12.5kHzchannelspacing
insteadof25kHz,the40channelsoriginallyallocatedcannowbe

onlyapplicationsandhaveprohibitedthetransmissionofspeech
onthesechannels.ConsequentlytheTX670hasatransmit-inhibit
appliedtochannels22and23.
Intheeventthatadditionaltelemetry/telecommandchannelsare
approvedbytheACMA,thesechannelsshallbeaddedtothose
currentlylistedwherevoicetransmissionisinhibited.Currently
transmissionsonchannels61,62and63arealsoinhibitedand
thesechannelsarereservedforfutureallocation.

original40channels,howevertheywillnotbeabletoconverseonthe
newerchannels41–80.Thenewernarrowbandradioswillbeable
toconversewithallolder40channelwidebandradiosonallchannels
1to40aswellasthenewerchannelsallocatedfrom41to80.
Themixingofnarrowbandandwidebandradiosinthesame
spectrumcancausesomepossibleoperatingissuesofinterference
andvaryinglevelsofreceivedvolume.
POSSIBLE ISSUES
Whenanewnarrowbandradioreceivesatransmissionfromanolder
widebandradiothespeechmaysoundloudanddistorted–simply
adjustyourradiovolumeforbestperformance.
Whenanolderwidebandradioreceivesasignalfromanew
narrowbandradio,thespeechmaysoundquiet-simplyadjustyour
radiovolumeforbestperformance.
Dependingonhowcloseyourreceivingradioistoanother
transmittingradio,therecanbeinterferencefromthetransmitting
radioifitisusingachanneladjacenttothechannelyouarelistening
to.Simplytrygoingupordownafewchannelsfromthecurrently
selectedchannel.
Theabovesituationsarenotafaultoftheradiobutasymptomof
operatingwidebandandnarrowbandradiosinthesamebandwidth.
Thispossibleinterferencewilldecreaseovertimeasthepopulationof
widebandradiosagesanddecreases.

Ifleftunused,thebatterieswilldischargewithinafewmonths.
IfyouhavenotusedyourTX670forsometime,youwillneedto
rechargeyourbatterypackbeforeuse.
Installing the Batteries
Batteryinstallationismoreconvenientwhenthebeltclipis
removed.Todothis,releasethespringclipandslidethebelt
clipdownwardandawayfromtheradiobody.
1.Pressthecentre-topareaofthebatterycoverand
slidedownwards.
2.Installtherechargeablebatterypackinthedirection
indicatedonthepackuntilit‘clicks’intoplace.
3. Replacethebatterycoverandbeltclip.
Charging the Batteries
YourTX670issuppliedwithanACadapterwhichwillrecharge
afullydischargedbatterypacktofullcapacityinaround15-16
hours.
1.Plugthechargerintoastandard240voltACoutlet.
2.Connectthechargertomic/chargesocketontheradio.
Battery Low Alert
Whenthebatteryiconblinksonthedisplay,thebatterylevel
islowandthebatteriesshouldberechargedorreplaced.Ifthe
batteriesarenotcharged,anaudiotonewillthensoundtowarn
theuserthatthebatteriesarealmostdischarged.
Battery Usage
Thetimetakentodischargethebatterieswilldependonhow
youusetheTX670.The1500mAhbatterypacksuppliedis
powerfulenoughforafulldaysuseunderaverageconditions.
Conserving Battery Power
TheTX670hasbuilt-inpowersavingfeaturestohelpyouget
themaximumamountoftimebetweencharges.Ifyouneedto
operateyourTX670inasituationwhereyourequiremaximum
batterylife(e.g.aremotesitewherethereisnoconvenient
rechargingfacilitynearby)thefollowinghintscangreatlyreduce
theamountofpowerdrawnfromthebatteries.
Standby Mode
TheTX670willautomaticallyenterthe‘Standby’modewhen
itisinactive(i.e.nottransmittingorreceivingsignals).Whilein
Standbymodeitwillstillcheckforincomingsignalsbutitwill
drawconsiderablylesspowerfromthebatteries.Assoonasa
signalisheardorthekeysarepressedtheTX670will‘wakeup’
again.ThisStandbymodeisautomaticandbyitselfcanextend
thebatterylifebymanyhours.
Using CTCSS
Ifyouareexpectingtoreceivesignalsonabusychannel,you
canprogramthatchannelforCTCSSoperationandgettheother
persontocallyouusingthesameCTCSStone.Yourradiowill
thenremaininStandbyandignoreallothersignalsuntilyour
selectedCTCSStoneisreceived.
