Getting to Knowthe Printer
1. About the Printer
1-1. Introduction
The label printer is available in two models EZ-2 and EZ-4 the onlydifference between the two models isthe
print width. This compact printer will enable you to automate a lot oftasks currentlyhandwritten saving time
and giving a more professional image.
The EZ2/4 isthe easiestway to produce high quality labels for a wide varietyof applications, the printerworks
with direct thermal labels eliminating the need for costlyink, toner and ribbons.
With the powerfull QLABEL-II software provided with everyprinter you can easilyproduce the following:

2. Setting up the Printer
2-1. Connectingthe EZ-2/4 Printer to a PowerOutlet.
1. Plug the power cord into a power outlet.
2. Plug the AC adaptercable into the power jackat the rearofthe printer
3. Turn the printer on bypressing the powerswitch.
4. The LED on the printer will turn red.
5. Proceed to 2-2 Loading your printer with Labels.
2-2. Connectingthe EZ-2/4 Printer to a PC
1. Be sure the printerispowered off.
2. Plug the power adapter into the printer power jack.
3. Connect the printer to the parallel interface on the PC (with the cable provided)
4. Power on. The LED light will be red (no label) or green.
2-3. Loading the EZ-2/4 PrinterwithLabels
Loading small-size label roll
1. Power on.
2. Pressthe two lock switches(part 6) and liftup a little to open the rear cover (see figure
2.3.1).

3. Insert a small-size label roll onto the core shaft (see figure 2.3.2).
4. Place the roll into the groove.
5. Insert the edge oflabels into the label guide, until the edge isblocked bythe printhead.
6. Pressfeed button to drive the label (under the printhead) into the printer.

Loading large-size label roll
1. Power on.
2. Pressthe two lock switches(part 6) and liftup a little to open the rear cover. (See figure
2.3.1)
3. Remove the label roll stands. Verticallyplace the two standsalong the left and right sides
Of the rearcover.
4. Place the large-size label roll on the stands(see figure 2.3.3).
5. Insert the edge oflabels into the label guide, until0l the edge is blocked bythe printhead.

2-4. Testing theEZ-2/4Printer
The self-test function helps you checkifthe printer works normally.
To start the self-test function; please follow these steps.
1. Load the label.(As described in 2-3)
2. Power the Printer OFF (Wait 2 seconds)
3. Hold down the feed keyand Power the Printer ON.
4. Release the feed button. Wait a fewseconds, the printer will print the self-test.
Note: To Disable the Self-test, please power off the printer at least2 seconds,
than power on again.
3. Maintenance and Adjustments
3-1. Replacingthe Label Roll
A. EZ-2
11. Face the front side of the printer. Place your
thumbs on the top cover and the other fingerson
the left and right sidesof the printer.
12. Gently
pressdownthe top coverwith your thumbs,
and pull it toward you to remove the top cover.
(See figure 3.1.1)

13. Press and lift up the two lockswitches
(part 7) to open the rear cover .

1. Remove the top cover.
2. Press your pointing fingeron “A”, move out the two plastic
fastenersfromthe retainer, and you can take out the retain
er
and the print head unit. (see figure 3.2.1)
3. Use soft cloth soaked in isopropyl alcohol, to rub off caught
labelsand cleans the surface. Reinstall the fastenersand
retainer.

1. Power offthe printer.
2. Remove the top cover and backcover.
3. Remove label roll.
4. Close the two label guides the wayas figure 3.3.1(1).
5. Make apart the two retaining clips fromthe assembly, bygentlypressing the clipsthe direction asfigure
3.3.1(2), and afterward by lifting thema little.
6. Lift the guide board the direction as figure 3.3.1(3).
7. Clean, with alcoholiccloth, the labeljamon the bottomofthe assembly.
8. Reassemble the printer

3-4. Label gap sensor adjustment
Due to different quality labelsavailable it maybe necessary to makean adjustment to the label gap sensorfor
detecting the label gap. Anyadjustment must be made in well light room.
1. Remove top cover.
2. The top view shows the circuit board asindicated on figure 3.4.1.The Variable Resistor(VR)can be
adjusted the wayseither counter-clockwise forlowertransmit power (lesssensitivity) or clockwise for
highertransmit power(higher sensitivity). Each slight adjustment ofthe VR hasto be verified bypressing
the feed button at least 7 times.

1. Load the paperunderthe sensor. Watch the feed LED (poweron LED) and it mayturn red or green. If
green, go straight to step 3.
2. Adjust the VR slowlyand pressthe paper feed button successfully(at least 7 times), until the LED light
turns green.
3. Remove the paper fromthe sensor, and press the feed button. If LED turnsred, the adjustment is done.
Otherwise, reverse the adjusting direction slowlyuntil the LED light turnsred, then repeat step 1.
Thermal Labels
1. Remove the sticker fromthe liner. Load the liner paperunderthe sensor.
2. Slowlyadjustthe Variable resistorand pressthe paperfeed switchsuccessively (at least 7times), until the
LED light turnsred.
3. Put the labelpaper (with labels on the liner)underthe sensor, then pressfeed button a fewtimes. If the
LEDlight turns green, you have finished the adjustment. Ifthe LED light isred, repeat step 2and 3until the
LED light turnsgreen.

4. Software Command
4.1 Introduction
There are four basic types of software commands.
l One-byte onlycontrol codes, see table 3.1
l Set up commands, see table 3.2
l Label formatting commands, see table 3.3
l Buffermode commands, see table 3.4
The commands are expanded fromEsc code (decimal 27).
The commands operate in two modes.
l In the line mode, the printer actson the command received immediately. After power on, the printer is in
the line mode.
l In the buffer mode, the printer stores the lines ofcommandsfora label into the printerbuffer, then prints
multiple copiesof the label without pause. Onlythe label formatting commandscan be stored into the
printerbuffer.

Buffer mode Command
The buffer mode startswhen the printerreceivesthe buffer mode begin command EscB. In the buffermode
the printer stores the lines ofcommands for alabel into the printer buffer,then prints multiple copies of the label
without pause. Onlythe labelformatting commandscan be stored into the printer buffer.
1. Esc B
Function : Begin to Store data in buffer.
2. Esc E
Function : Ending of buffer mode.
3. Esc Pnn
Function : Set the quantityof labels to print. Do not send a CR/LF at the end ofthe command.
Parameter : nn = 01~99
4. Esc pnnn
Function : Set the quantityof labels to print. Be sure to send a CR/LF at the end of the command.
Parameter : nn = 100~999
5. Esc P00
Function : Allow repeat printing of the samelabel bypressing the feed
button. Ifyou use strip function, this
command can re-print the same label byremoving the loose label detected bythe sensor.
